  1. Are you using rage crossbow specific heads? Gman said the compound heads will open prematurely. And yes, slots are for collar to break and should not be lined up with blades.
  2. Odd. Not sure how a design like that can’t open - seems like physics says it must. But considering the shot was forward, might have been a blessing. Dead deer either way.
  3. Fox kill is blurry because didn’t have time to focus scope as we had not even set up. Lol. Surprised I had time to shoot at all.
  4. I have the deer vs dog figured out. Learned a lot about fox vs rabbit last night. Still not able to distinguish Wolcs terrier vs Fox.
  5. Don’t know how to post video but this is a still shot through the thermal of a fox. Thought some that haven’t used one might like to see. This is the one that got away.
  6. Dave still at early stages of learning myself so not sure I have much to offer but quick rundown from last night: 1st set - Andrew caught eyes walking in. We never even got set up. He mouth squeaked a bit until I could at least get my stuff unloaded and the fox cooperated by responding to his mouths squeaks. Close shot. 2nd set - again caught eyes before setting up call. Fox started coming in to mouth squeaks. I wasn’t very patient and shot and missed. Should have waited. Short break then set up caller. To the best of my recollection, this was the sequence that fooled the yote: nutty nuthatch - 5 min titmouse tantrum - 5 min platinum gray pup distres - little longer and we had some yotes respond single female long howl - 3 howls and silence female submissive - a few minutes and silence long male howl - 2x silence pair of yotes - few minutes saw eyes and went back to pups in distress yote then worked it’s way in from 200 out until somewhere between 80-100 and when it stopped and turned slightly I shot. Fun night for sure. Rig is a 2A 223 with proof carbon barrel and pulsar XP50 thermal. As Andrew likes to point out, at this point, the dogs are costing me about $500/lb. lol. Hoping to average that down over time.
  7. Not sure if the cow poop or yote piss all over my shoulder and arm smells worse. But windows down driving home for sure!
  8. Thanks Andrew. You should have been on the gun but I appreciate you wanting me to get that first yote. Excited!
  9. Ok - first set success! Didn’t even have time to set call. Andrew good with mouth squeaks! Says Pygmy taught him everything he knows re lips.
  10. Always fun hunting with stormy, err I mean Andrew whether we kill one or not.
  11. Heading out with Andrew tonight. Feeling optimistic. Pics to follow. Lol
  12. Andrew Leland has some good books and articles on calling with sequences depending on what you are targeting. Let em grow has the yotes going crazy the other night. And zeek suggested going silent when they hang up.
  13. Bay b cotton tail titmouse tantrum platinum Fox distress coy pup distress 1 and 3 female and male interrogations (yote only below) female submissive yote challenge some common ones but lots to change up on Fox pro. Good luck experimenting
  14. I think many of us hunt areas that are shotgun only. Mine is a savage 220. I like the browning. Good luck.
  15. Yep Dan, not suggesting that a deer wouldn't be dead 99.9% of the time on the deer I saw. I just assumed it would be 100% fatal. It was a that can't be moment. But it was.
  16. That stinks. Sorry to hear it First Light.
  17. If I recall correctly, it was slightly back, but not far back. maybe @WNY Bowhunter can confirm. I know it made me a believer in the alleged "no man's land" when I had never believed it before.
  18. shot was under vertebrae and looked like it should have hit lungs. I would not have believed it was not a fatal shot but hunter later killed it in gun. Carcass was not yet skinned but it was gutted. I didn't do a CSI review, but it was clear that arrow holes were under spine and into the cavity below spine.
  19. Post it up on archery talk in the traditional section. There are a few there that I bet can give you the info you are looking for. Nice bow and a steal at $10! Not easy shooting off your hand as a rest. You plan to build a leather rest for it or something similar?
