  1. That funnel on the east of the swamp between swamp and creek also looks like a killer rut spot for bucks scent checking the swamp on a west based wind.
  2. My property has a fair amount of cattail swamps. Points out in the swamp like those marks are always good options. During the rut, the bucks will also run transition lines downwind of the swamp scent checking. Often you will find heavily used doe trails near the transition. The bucks will run a parallel trail slightly further downwind. Scent is critical. Use good access and hunt good winds or you will blow them out. Even more so than Hill country. Good luck. Boots on the ground tell the rest.
  3. are the red markers identified beds?
  4. Quite entry from downwind and set up downwind. Quiet and scent would be my primary concerns. Knowing where they travel helps.
  5. Yep, takes a bit of experience to set that angle right at the outset and different trees require different angles. Steve covered it well. Be sure to attach the two sections. You don't want to be stuck in the tree with the base at the bottom.
  6. Outside of the rut, mid-day isn't generally great for us although we have one property that there is a still a reasonable chance for a doe. High pop ups the odds.
  7. I use the barnes spitefire t-ez 250g. Very accurate for me. Expansion has been so-so but I also am using a lot of powder. I should try a lesser load but love the current accuracy. Every deer shot so far has been a dead deer reasonably close. Just not tons of blood.
  8. Sounds like you will be in the money soon Andrew. 3-4 shooters in one known bedding area is crazy! Go get one!
  9. We have a high efficiency rheem that has worked well for 11years. But, it does require an annual cleaning of the flame sensor. I was told that its because we have a long vent line. Other than that it works OK. Don't forget a humidifier if its in the budget. I hate being stuffed from dry winter air. We use Boccacino for service but that's primarily because when my father was a builder, he used them. They seem honest. Not sure if they do work in Buffalo.
  10. 8H - have not really seen any rutting activity. Did see a 2yr old bumping a doe with a fawn around about week ago but she had no interest. No scrapes yet. A few rubs around obviously.
  11. If I recall correctly from an AT thread on this subject, All and Cheer free have no UV brighteners
  12. 41 and steady rain. I am going back to bed. Good luck to you more hardcore hunters.
  13. That will keep you in the stand. Only takes one opportunity
  14. Sorry to hear it. Keep making their trespassing difficult. They will give up eventually.
  15. You know where they came from and wind. You got this. Solid access and tree that offers a shot before you are winded! Good luck Jay.
