  1. No doubt Larry. You raised them right though.
  2. My 7yr old daughter has been shooting a kids long bow for a while but not consistently. Tonight, I explained gapping in simple terms, just put the arrow point below the deers front arm pit and shoot. She proceeded to make kill shot after kill shot at 10yds. I was pretty shocked but stoked at the same time. We have a future hunter in the making. Wish I knew how to post video. It was cool.
  3. There you go again with the mag and weatherby.
  4. I vote against anything weatherby just to frustrate Biz. Tikka it is. In all seriousness, both Sakos I have owned are extremely accurate guns and if the Tikka is anything like those, it will be hard to beat.
  5. Shoot em again at close range. Not worth getting a hoof to the head IMO.
  6. Been very happy with rage hypos. I do check the head before nocking the arrow to ensure it didn't open
  7. Times is getting better too. Good odds once the rut kicks in.
  8. Nice job! - Fished Sandy Creek with my son Monday PM and saw a lot of jumpers but no takers and we threw everything we could at them. I am concerned about future population with the drought and low waters.
  9. Agree - a bird's eye comparison really helps sometimes
  10. I like that bench that Grampy mentioned. I would take a crack at it and hunt it high (on the ridge side) in the morning and perhaps on the actual bench in the afternoon if you can get in without bumping deer. Seems like you could hunt it on NE (optimal) and even slightly off winds like N and NW and perhaps even E or W depending on typical deer travel (i.e. learning whether they move up or down in the morning and evening as Culver mentioned) and stand placement.
  11. Better yet, have the archery shop adjust the peep and you won't need it, assuming your strings are decent.
  12. Good luck Bionic. Greater knowledge will yield better results in my opinion. Good for you on learning new tricks even after 20 years. If you can up the odds by knowing where deer typically bed and travel based on topography, you are halfway there.
  13. They don't call you Loincloth Larry for nothing. Go get em!
  14. I am far from an expert, but I would think that the same principles apply whether its 50-100ft elevation changes or more. In the end, its pretty much based on wind movement and deer behavior. I know we have benches/shelves that are great bedding areas with similar 50-100ft elevation changes, draws that are common travel corridors and deer do use that 1/3 from the top of the ridge a lot from both bedding and travel. Also keep in mind to check the horizontal points. We also have a few valley spots that are great, but wind is tricky. Good luck.
  15. As an aside, when hunting that 1/3 from the top, hunt higher than that line in the morning (shooting down) since thermals lift your scent above the trail and lower than that line in the evening since thermals will draw your scent below the trail.
  16. saddles are lower areas between two ridges (like the shape of a saddle viewed from the side), but not typically the valley. Shelves are flat areas on the sides of ridges - usually good bedding Ridge line is the top of the ridge - Dan suggests looking at the 1/3 from the top on the leaward side (non predominant wind side) of a ridge since that is where thermals and predominant wind meet making it easy for a deer to scent both sides. Valleys can be very productive but tough to hunt due to swirling winds. Draws leading out of valleys can also be very good (thinking of tight pinch where two ridges meet on higher ground - the V leading up to the top between the ridges is the draw. Hope that helps with terminology.
  17. Yep - heal up and knock one down.
  18. No harm in hunting it tonight. Its already scented up. Then giving it a couple of days or more to normalize. Just my opinion. Going to be warm around here the next two days anyways.
  19. TF - you are one heck of a chef (as are some others here). Every night looks like a time consuming meal to cook. Living the good life!
  20. For what its worth, if I based activity on our cam results, I would think its pretty bad. But our sits show otherwise. We had real solid activity these past two weekends, but still not many photos. One afternoon I counted 11 deer and only one was photographed. All were within 40yds of the cam though.
  21. Live from my office, what a beautiful morning to be in a stand, I bet! Sorry to hear it Cory, integrity is fast becoming a rare commodity.
  22. Someone shot a big ole buck. Heavy! Congrats Phade!
