  1. Without seeing that deer it's impossible to know. Looks high for lung unless it was a downhill or steep shot. He could have spinned that deer too. Who knows. Nothing you can do now but make a better shot next chance. Good luck.
  2. Good 2 year old IMO. Neck smooth to chest and not square yet. Good looking buck.
  3. Some yotes here this morning too. Unusual for this area
  4. I really like predator fall gray. Deer seem to look right through you. No doubt you can kill one without camo but if you are specifically buying camo, predator is my choice. That said, I buy hunting gear based on fit and functionality and much of it is real tree because that is what is popular
  5. Sure looks like bubbles on that leaf. You will find him!
  6. For what it's worth I tracked that doe to within 30yds an hour after I shot her. Couldn't find her and the next morning started again and she was right there. You will find him and that's a bruiser that's tough to miss lying dead. Dog will definitely help.
  7. I recovered a single lung shot doe last year. She made it about 200 yes. I can't say I have personally single lunged a deer that lived, just read it many times.
  8. Left main is pretty unique and looks the same. I would guess same buck. Great to know he is a regular showing in daylight.
  9. He's a dandy whatever he scores! Good luck.
  10. Deer can live with single lung shots, but I like your odds. Don't quite. You will find him!
  11. Used sparingly when you can't see the buck and aggressively when you can but they won't commit. Helped me with my buck last year and this year. I even threw in a snort wheeze last year out of desperation and it sealed the deal. I never really used a grunt tube before. Now it's a must have for me.
  12. If you take the photo with the camera horizontal , they should post correctly or at least did for me.
  13. I have been fortunate to take a few deer with the recurve this year but never expected to kill this bruiser, although he was on the radar. Was really hoping for a good 3 year old. Anyways, we named this buck the Monarch in 2013 when we first had him on camera as a likely 4yr old. Been chasing him ever since to no avail. This morning, I almost slept in since Phade and our friend David couldn't hunt. Pulled an all day hunt yesterday with Larry302 and I was tired. But I eventually convinced myself that time in the stand is one of the biggest keys to killing a good buck and dragged myself out of bed. As I mentioned earlier in the live from the stand thread, I sat an oak flat downwind of doe bedding that has a trail in between where bucks cruise scenting does. Didn't see a deer early and started to grunt a bit. About 10 minutes later, I caught the smell of a buck. Slightly encouraged I waited a bit and saw nothing. Then another whiff. No buck to be seen still so I did 3 short grunts like a buck pushing a doe. Sure enough, I see a big body and tall tines to my right a few minutes later working his way though some brush. He was perfectly positioned upwind and working his way towards my shooting lane. I slowly stand and turn around in my stand to shoot to the right. Put my tab on the string and start to get ready and, oh NO, my arrow is stuck in the arrow holder and the nock comes of the string. I hold it together enough to release the arrow from the holder and nock the arrow again just as he is just starting to enter my lane. Guessed yardage at 25 and as soon as I could see full body I focused on that pocket and let it fly. I thought it was a good shot but wasn't certain. Backed out and went back with my buddy David to track. The buck ran 60yds uphill, collapsed and slid back down. I had no idea it was the monarch until recovery The Lord really blessed me. Hard to beat your biggest buck, pope and young, 3 plus years of history, with a recurve and then to top it off a heart shot. I sure won't forget this anytime soon.
  14. Thanks guys. Still a little shocked that he was my first buck with a recurve. Heart shot at 25yds
  15. The buck we have been chasing for 3 years just went down to the recurve. And worthy of note is Phades integrity when he passed him last week because he tagged out. Thanks you Phade and thanks Lord:
  16. I already share my private lands with 3 other hunters BY CHOICE and I could care less what they hunt with. If you think private means less pressure than you haven't hunted private where we hunt. Oh no, there may be a few more hunters on the lands surrounding or 20-40 acre parcels. I will still kill deer and I would bet we have more hunters per square mile than most public and again, if crossbow inclusion means a few more, so what. There was just a thread this week talking about how few hunters are now hunting public lands. Perhaps you need a new public spot. We only have thousands of public acres to hunt in NY. Put your time in to find good public spots or your money where your mouth Is and buy a few acres. this issue is about implement used. Let's get more hunters included not excluded. And, for what it's worth, it took me all of 2 weeks of practice to shoot a compound well enough to kill a deer. It's not very difficult. In my opinion, the skill lies in putting yourself in position for a shot and then pulling it off without spooking deer. That is true whether you hunt with a bow or crossbow, both of which are close range implements.
  17. Decided to sit an Oaks flat 50yds downwind of a doe bedding area. Trail between the two that bucks will use to scent check the bedding. Probably too early for the bigger bucks to show but a scrape has opened, the weather is comfortable and I am in a stand. Great morning already. Good luck all.
  18. Or you could work to buy your own property to "injoy" and then exclude all the xbow hunters. This is not an issue of land access it's about the implement used. Period.
  19. You know why - I think you use the term bowhunter together with elitist more than anyone I know.
  20. Wait a minute, do you also go by the username Stubby
  21. Quoted the wrong post I guess. My response was to LJC
  22. Not necessarily true. I would be just fine with full inclusion although I have no plans to shoot one.
