4 Pointer Down! (3N - Putnam County)
Guns&ReligionCop replied to BizCT's topic in Hunting Success Stories
I don't know if its the weather or what but this is the slowest season I remember. I'm seeing deer but its been streaky and in unusally patterns. I think part of its the lack of apples the other thing I had a lot of trees down across deer trails that caused them to divert -

You are going to have a bunch of people that have never shot a deer with a 223 say that its not big enough and if you make poor shot etc etc... I hunted with a 223 for years on several different platforms, bolt action, Ar, mini-14. Bottom line 223 in a deers chest is a dead deer. No problems -
I have a mini-14 and Ar-15 that I use to hunt with. I used 55 grain soft tips of varing brands through the years. Worked great on deer and woodchucks

Push To Include Big Bore Airguns For Big Game In New York?
Guns&ReligionCop replied to 13BVET's topic in General Hunting
Well big bore airguns are load and powerful, whats the difference between them and using a regular gun? I was shooting my friends pellet gun the other day and it was louder then my 22 w/ sub-sonics and probably equally as devastating. -
I use the grim reapers too and they make a huge hole but not what I recommend for a slower bow. Cabelas arrows are cheaper and fly just as just as good as the expensive Easton axis I use to use. Remember the deer don't know how much the arrow cost that you stuck in them

I take two sheet rock screws and drill in from the back of the wood plaque into that back of the antlers so theres no visable screw in the skull plate. I'll post pics later

Fake, just like ax-men, gold rush, swamp people. They take a shade of truth and do reactments etc... Rewind and review things and you see inconsistancies like a motor that explodes on a boat that wasn't the same as the one just on the boat. Slow motion shot and water splashing but its not the same gun he was just holding while pulling the gator, professional loggers parking cars under the direction their felling

Yes I would let it walk! I did at the end of PA archery season. The very last day I was hunting in PA with the biggest deer I would ever gotten. I'm a great shot with my bow but I don't take questionable shots. I took a head shot once when I was a kid and was lucky and it worked out but I would never do it again. I shoot clay birds set up at 4 hundered yards I'm sure I can hit a deer in the head from 50 but I wouldn't do it. Part of hunting is finding the perfect shot not taking foolish shots just because you can or you are out of options. Then only time a deer gets bullet to the brain from a gun of mine is it finish it off. Deer are not zombies or terrorists you don't need a instant brain stem shattering kill and any encouragement of this behavior is going to result in more people trying and more wounded deer.

Where did you hit him?

Hunter/Game Warden relationships

No, just mostly yours -
Learn to not shoot everything you see. Hunting is more than just shooting sometimes it invovles watching them walk away

This actually sounds like a true story and not just finger pointing. I can see this happening and it sucks. -
Head shots = Hollywood Heart shot/Double Lung = Hunter

I'm piggy backing this in here but has anyone ever tired a Ross?

What meat do you "head shot" hunters not want to waste? Theres little to no usable meat on the ribs and aim above the heart if you want to save it if you're such a good shot that your shooting it in the head. Why risk it by taking a shot like that?

Have been checked at cranberry mt in Putnam several times and they are always there opening day of rifle and small game simply because it would be a fiasco without them. Always very nice and hand out a ton of verbal warnings never seen them summons anyone even though I have witnessed them stopping people for plenty of violations

Need help deciding on a new 30.06 and 12Ga
Guns&ReligionCop replied to Tony7781's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I have ithaca that I used as a kid and now its my wifes guns and never had a problem with it. I use a mossberg-auto with a long barrel for pheasants because they are tough and fly slow but I prefer a shot open choke for grouse because they go down easy and they are fast as heck!
