shooting.....one eye open or both ?
ATbuckhunter replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Im left eye dominant, but right handed so sometimes I have to close my left eye. I taught my self to shoo with both eyes open, but when my adrenaline is going I close my eye. -
I really appreciate your very kind offer! I might just take you up on it. Ill pm you in a little while.

This I can definitely support!

I heard they have a lot there, especially closer to northern Jersey. I just don't feel comfortable enough to hunt them with a bow only just yet.

I actually live in the 5 boroughs so I live pretty close to NJ. When is the bear season for NJ?

Its a good thing the guy was respectful enough to pay the vet bill. Unfortunately things like this can happen and you always have to be vigilant. Glad it wasn't anything more then what it was.

How do you soft mast blossoms look?
ATbuckhunter replied to growalot's topic in Land Management, Food Plots and QDM
Sorry must have missed that. Something that has helped keep ants off my peach and fig trees is to put Vaseline on the base of the tree because ants/bugs don't like to walk on that stuff. Make sure you lightly tie some aluminum foil or something to have a barrier between the tree and the Vaseline because it will girdle the tree. The only problem ive had with peaches is leaf curl which can really stunt growth. -

Grow have you ever considered planting peach trees? -
I thought the same till he and his father both got bears the first day of the season in that spot.

Ya the plan is to try and find some beech or acorn tree stands that are producing and maybe hang a stand there. I'd be surprised if there's any soft mast on public ground in the catskill mountains. Another thing I did was find areas that have had high bear harvest the last few years and concentrate on those areas. My friend said he'll put me in a spot in guaranteed to get a bear, but we'll see if he actually does that when it comes down to it. Also i plan on skinning and quartering the bear out in the woods and packing it out like that in a couple trips up and down the mountain. Thanks for the advice!!

That's also what i was thinking. Treat it a lot like deer hunting.

Okay so I decided to give bear hunting a shot this year for the early September season. I'm planning on going to the Catskills, but I've never hunted bear before so I'm not sure how to go about it. How do you suggest I hunt them on public ground in the mountains? I was thinking about trying to find some pinch points and travel those. The property I deer and turkey hunt in 3J is part of the early bear units, but there are rarely any bear that stay into the fall. I did stumble on a nice set of bear tracks about 20 yards from my turkey blind this season so ill defiantly be keeping an eye on that to see if he sticks around until September. Thanks for the help guys.

Bear for sure!

After looking it up, I still believe that my understanding is correct. Again this is not the topic of the thread, it would not be right to discuss this here.

Pretty sure I know the meaning and what defamation is, but that's not the topic of this thread. No point to discuss this here. As to the other comment, I'm not going to turn this thread into an argument because you want you want to spout non sense.

He will always be one of the greatest if not the greatest in my eyes. Too bad some people cant even respect the fact that he died and have to post libel.

You generally have to plant corn at a higher rate, but it is still a good way to plant. This is how my father planted corn when he was younger. In fact corn was planted like this by everyone all the way till the 90's where I'm from.

Happy Birthday!

Its extremely easy to post pics through tapatalk. If you want you can send the pics to me and I can upload it for you or tell you how to upload it through tapatalk. I'm not challenging your claim to have gotten a bird with 1 3/4" spurs, I just want to see them myself.

Well look who's got a birthday today .... Grampy !!!
ATbuckhunter replied to turkeyfeathers's topic in General Chit Chat
Happy Birthday Grampy!!! Hope you had a wonderful day. -
Where was this picture taken? Some places still have remaining populations of animals that used to be there. For example there are rabbits and wild pheasant in Kissena park in Queens.

Tomatoes are starting to grow really well, peaches already have almost 18" of growth on them, strawberry's are just starting to ripen up, and the figs are finally starting to grow again.
