  1. I have zero experience with gun dogs, but I remember people saying they'd start shooting cap guns around them and progressively get closer after a little while. Then they step it up to a 22 and start the process again. This goes on until they can shoot a shotgun next to the dog with out it caring.
  2. Got my first duck just 10 min ago. I believe it's a black duck. Boy am I glad I bought duckstamp on Friday Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. My grandparents have done it before. I believe it was a head shot at close range though
  4. Ill be doing some coyote hunting on Thursday and Friday after I take my last final tomorrow. I don't have a .223 so ill be either using my 06, 12 gauge, or my .22 mag.
  5. This is the deer I was hunting. Looks bigger than the trail cam pics. Forgot how much is sucks to have a deer you've been after shot. What do you guys think he'll score? I'm thinking in the mid 120's for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Well got some bad news about an hour ago. The main deer i was chasing was shot a few min down the road from the place i hunt. Neighbor told me he saw it by my stand on saturday morning, when i was hunting another property. He looks even bigger than my trail cam pics
  7. Hopefully he walks that rub line next year!
  8. The top pic is the first and the bottom is the second Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. Just took another doe. Perfect shot but it didn't bleed one drop on the snow. I Only found hair and tracks. She only went 60 yards and piled up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. It's snowing pretty good now in 3J. Went across the street to the property owners brothers property and wacked a doe. I was planning on doing a small drive for once, but I intercepted them as they made their way to a small stand of pines. I spooked about 7 at first because I was too excited to take the 80 yard off hand shot. Followed them in the snow, but lost the track because at the time there was only a small amount of snow. Oh my way back I spooked one more in the ravine and watched it run towards a private road. Well it stopped right before it and luck would have it, someone was driving down the road spooked the deer right back to me into the ravine . It stopped exactly broadside at 60 yards and I took the shot. I saw the flinch and watched it struggle to run with its tail tucked. Blood trail was good and it only went maybe 60 yards. Still have another tag for this area so I'm going to go for one more today if I can. Trying to convince my parents to let me go out tomorrow as well. We'll see if I can Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. I remember doing that when i was in elementary. It'll slowly fade as everything becomes electronic
  12. That's a real nice buck for dutchess county!
  13. That sucks. Did you think about buying it? In my opinion the only person that looses while selling land is the guy selling it.
  14. I shot my biggest buck on Dec 5th 2009 while he was chasing a group of 5 doe. I've seen plenty of chasing all the way to the end of rifle season to get me excited about hunting the late season Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. I was told this was in glen cove LI which is really just starting to see more consistant deer activity. They'll be a big problem in Nassau in no time.
  16. I would have skinned it out and packed each piece out. I probably would have called some people for help and give them the meat that they pack out. Im a bit scared of trichinosis, so I'd probably give most of the meat away anyway.
  17. I know timber thinning and management will do wonders for the deer population. Although I remember that the benoit brothers said that once they started doing that in Maine, it killed a lot of the big buck hunting. I have zero experience in big woods hunting, but I have written a few papers on the benefits of fires and timber thinning.
  18. These aren't lead bullets though. Yes you are correct most bullets will not preform the same at 10 like they do at 100, but these aren't normal bullets. They're 100 percent copper bullets so they do not expand as easily as a lead, but I believe they are designed to open the same way each time (until they get below a certain fps). I don't have pictures as I never thought to take them, but I have seen pretty much the same hole from both. Maybe it's slightly different, but It's sucks. Slight difference it's hard to see. 19. They're not designed for closer shots, hey just have a controlled expansion feature. It expands the same if he shit is at 10 yards or if the shot is at 100 yards. I've taken deer from 10 yards to 100 yards and the hole was exactly the same on all of them Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. I was just about to say that at least a few of those blocks now have Albanian stores and travel agencies. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. That's awesome! Buck or doe? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. What do you guys think this guy will score? Either way it's a shooter in my book, I'm just curious. I think it's somewhere in the 120's but I'm not sure. I do apologize for the crappy pics. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. I only have one experience with a shoulder shot and I got super lucky. I shot a doe high and only got about 7 or so inches of penetration. I gave it about 40 min to an hour before I got down to look at the blood. While i was waiting i saw a bunch of crows at almost ground level going crazy for a bit before leaving. When i got down and looked down that trail, the deer was down with in 60 yards. Ended up double lunging the deer anyway. I saw go back after him tomorrow and see what you find. Best of luck!
