My family has a condo in Clearwater fl (right by tampa). The whole complex was evacuated for the first time since it was built back in the 60's.

Salmon and steelhead fishing is a lot of fun! I miss a weekend of deer season each year just to go up to Pulaski -
Biz I believe you are allowed to shoot shotguns in Westchester, just not rifles. I could be wrong, but I believe im right.

Troy Gentry killed in helicopter crash

That's terrible! Life can be so short -
Early in the season I usually let it go, but later in the season Ill piss in a bottle. Not because om scared of scent though. Ill pee in a bottle so I can have a hand warmer for a little while. As nasty as it sounds, it can really help on those cold days.

Never had the chance to go, and it looks like I won't get the chance this September either. Hopefully next year, or if im lucky ill get a shot at one during rifle season. Good luck to all who are going out!

67 acres for sale. Old Chatham Ny, Columbia Co
ATbuckhunter replied to Eddie 33's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
I still don't think its worth even near that kind of price. Hence why its on a hunting site for sale instead of being sold already.- 54 replies

Well for one its easy to get there from the city. All you have to do is take Taconic all the way up there. Its also a different feel when your up there. A great way to escape the city. I hunt 2 hours from the city, but there isnt much farming there anymore, but in Columbia county I see a lot more farming those few times I drive through it.- 54 replies

Lease or 2017 deer season wanted
ATbuckhunter replied to JohnM's topic in Land For Sale, Lease, and Requests
That's close to what 100 acres is worth close to my neck of the woods unfortunately. I wiash we could find 100 acres for 225K let alone 976 acres. That being said its probably not going to sell for that kind of price. People just don't go upstate as often as they used to, to spend that kind of money on 67 acres. -
Happy Birthday!

Got out again today and the dust shots are out at 20. The first shot was the shot in the middle. After this I moved to 30 for a little while and got most of my shots with in a pie plate which made me more confident for the season. I'd like to get every shot with in a few inches at 30 before he season starts, but I'll accept all of them being in the pie plate. Took it out to 40 as well and I was pleased with the groups I was getting. Not the best, but I rarely shoot out to 40 so I'm not too upset right now. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That second buck is a nice one!

You should have gotten them a week ago. Me and my father got ours a week exactly from the day we were drawn. Id call the DEC if I were you.

I remember sportsman guide would have them for about 1200 a few years ago. Either way the gun looks like it's in great condition. Thought about giving an offer, but I probably couldn't afford to give a respectable offer. I've wanted a maxus for a few years now. Best of luck selling it though! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Depends for me really. If its during the rut, I usually let the doe walk and the bucks that I don't get excited about. Also shooting the biggest doe can actually mess up your hunting for a few years. The other doe tend to follow the habits of the matriarch doe (which tends to be the biggest), So when you remove that doe there is a chance they will adjust their habits in a way you are not used to.

Looks good, but isn't 1100 a bit steep since you could get a new one for 1200?

Not from today or yesterday, but I was able to get out on Friday for about an hours worth of practice. Hit the x on the first shot and the rest of my shots stayed with in 2" of the x the rest of the day. It's only at 20 yards but I'm happy with the results. I'll be out tomorrow to practice at 30 and 40. I think the rest of my days shooting will be mostly focused at 30-40 yards. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Welcome to the site! I would suggest you just get out there your self and learn as you go. You definitely are going about it the most rational way, but like you said it can be hard to find some one that is willing to mentor you. The great thing about this site is almost everyone here is more than willing to share any knowledge we may have on a subject. The learning curve may be steeper when your out there learning by your self, but sometimes that's what you have to do. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Should We Erase Objectionable History
ATbuckhunter replied to Doc's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
No history should ever be erased. It never helps anyone to just forget about the past. We don't need to celebrate some of it, but nothing should ever be erased. -
Wolves, caribou and moose - it's complicated
ATbuckhunter replied to Curmudgeon's topic in General Hunting
For one it was more than just elk that needed management and we can't compare the effectiveness of wolves to us. In order to control the population you'd need more cow harvest and many are more interested in getting a bull than a cow. It was also about restoring an animal that was part of the landscape and ruined by us. May not help you much, but they are a valuable part of the ecosystem. -
Wolves, caribou and moose - it's complicated
ATbuckhunter replied to Curmudgeon's topic in General Hunting
I can give an example from yellowstone actually. Years ago yellowstone was known for their huge elk population which looks great to wild life viewers and hunters, but is actually very damaging to the land. Wolves definitely decreased the game populations by quite a bit, but that allowed for a healthier ecosystem. Just like when you have too many deer per sq mile, the elk decimated generations of trees and other types of browse due to their high population density at the time. Since the introduction, the ecosystem has better maturity rates as well as healthier elk since they have better browse available to them. Now I do believe they have to be managed (like most animals) as best as possible to try to create a healthy ecosystem. Its hard to please the ecosystem and hunters who just want to see more and more game. -
I never see any in my part of 3J and 3M, but I don't spend much time in the woods during the summer and only deer hunt in the fall.
