Ever clean out decades worth of accumulation , in your home ?
Nomad replied to Nomad's topic in General Chit Chat
She said sell it all, by a RV and just travel. I said " well after a year or so we'll have to buy a house somewhere, so put some stuff in storage ." She said " no live that life forever ." I said ," you expect me to live in a small metal box with you forever ????" She flipped me off. " I rest my case. " -
After my Dad died and Mom needed care, we had to sell, give away and toss out all their stuff , what a project ! Craigslist sales, estate sale ( we went through over 1,00 price tags on things ) , over 300 things that were classified hazardous waste( paint, stain, lawn and garden care product, cleaners ) then the dumpster . This was after they " thinned " things out themselves ..... I realized all the " stuff" we accumulate becomes a burden to our children , half the cool stuff we save just gets thrown out or sold for pennies on the dollar. So my wife , the pack rat has come on board with us cleaning house . We put in new carper upstairs and all the closets and piles of stuff in the corners have been cleaned out ! Now I'm going through all my stuff, Matchbox cars from my youth, all my knives( I have maybe 50 from $50 to $500 ) old guns that just sit in the safe, my LW climber I don't use , all those books I'll never look at again, my old vinel records are going to be sold to a record store Monday , my Old Town Canoe and on and on. My wife is going through the kitchen cupboards , our kids are 23 and 25( and out of the house ) , we still have a sippy cup in there... It's just her and I , do we really need 8 TV trays ???? Deer heads are staying , but that big pile of antlers I'm not sure of.

At the Lilac Festival , drinking Genesee brew house IPA, and listening to The Fabulous Thunderbirds. The beer is better than the band .... I've seen them in concert in the '80's and got them on vinel , but this just isn't making it .

As you can see , boxes, catalog , engine, tender, cars . Was my Grandfathers , as is. wheels turn works as far as I know , but not tested . $175 Webster NY

They process 1,500 deer a year , it seems he shaves a couple pounds off each one , rather then poach 80 deer . My guess anyway , seems a lot less labor intensive .

Thanks ! The credit goes to the guy with the broken leg who trusts us not to drop him .... Which is not going to,happen but he has no control over anything and was calm through the whole thing .

In my FD that phase means a woman, child or say city official has entered the firehouse so watch your language and so,forth. Today we had a man on the roof who broke his leg, thought you may enjoy these pics. Of getting him off the roof . He was pretty brave and just trusted us .

For 18 years I hunted with a bow that had a simple flipper rest , basically a thin wire wrapped in a plastic tube , that worked fine. 8 or 9 years ago I got my new bow and that has a drop away , I don't know the brand but it raises up with the draw, that works well too . I like it as its "U" shaped and holds the arrow in place once up ,and down there is another little "U" thing that keeps it in place . I can't imagine WB or drop away making a big difference other than personal preference .

Bunch of guys on my FD started shooting in a weekly indoor one. Soon other guys at work wanted to try it, guys who never shot a bow once in their lives. They started out sharing bows with the other guys, and then buying entry level ones. They did fine , I certainly would not worry about what bow you have. Of of these newbies, one in fact turned out to be one of the best shooters in the league his first year...... Enjoy and good luck .

That's nice Biz! I'm no cigar snob, I order from JR Cigar mostly, I seek a balance between what I enjoy and price point . I turely understand that old saying , " what this country needs is a good nickel cigar ! " Although today I'd settle for $4 to $5. We have we have a shop here that has a roller on site and they have the tobacco shipped in . Nice cigars , I just don't like paying $10-$12 a stick all the time . Lately I've been into Gurkha , had my first on a beach in the Bahamas , I slipped off from the family and was enjoying a cigar I picked up a few days prior, when a woman approached me and asked what I was smoking..... Turns out she was a Gurkha rep.and gave me some.

I'd say real, Bill almost certinaly had the real deal .

Many folks go away to Mexico , Dominican Republic and other vacations spots and buy " Cuban" cigars often the famed Cohiba . Now counterfeits out number real ones by more then 10 to 1 and time after time friends have brought me fakes, and years ago I fell for them as well, here's my advice. First off there are NO glass top Cohiba boxes !!! Oh they sell millions of them ,ALL are fake like this one, which by the way was bought in CUBA . The only real Cohibas sold in Cuba are sold in Gov. shops , not street corners or back rooms , by " employees " who get " deals" on them ....... Cohibas cost around $20 a piece ( and some Way more ) depending on the size that may be a clue when you,pay $100 or so for 25 . What you are buying may be a decent cigar that was Rebanded, or often banana leaves and floor sweepings, enjoy ! Cohiba cigars are made perfect , the people working the sorting tables can tell 60 shades of the same wrapper and groups them accordingly, the caps and foots are perfect with a 3 ring cap noticeable . Look at this cigar , way to vainy and lumpy, the cap is crooked . But the band tells the story, those little white squares? The top row should have black spacing above it , never will it be cut though the squares or this close to,them like here . Where the band is glued together , the spacing between the squares and the line up should be perfect , here they over lap and run at an angle . Avoid glass top boxes , buy only from large well established cigar shops or Gov. Shops ( in Cuba) , look the cigar over it should be smooth , solid , and prefect in every way and all the cigars in the box should be the same length , shade and shape, and look the band over. I post this because so,many ( most are getting fakes ) these were bought by a camera man who was in Cuba filming a game, he was thrilled to pass a couple out to,select friends back home. I did not have the heart to tell him, but at the same time these people are not getting a treat .

Sure for $4 a nice disposable knife I guess. Here's a few pages of reading about them including some posts from the companies owner . http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1340150-Ridiculous-budget-blade-4-dollar-Ozark-Trails-folders-good-blade-pic-heavy Personally if I want a cheap but well made knife that also has a rich history and respect of knife lovers the world over I'd go Opinel . http://www.opinel-usa.com/

Zem I'm speechless , that pic will be hard to top ! I'd be thrilled if I drove to Vermomt and was able to get 1 full case of Heady .

A few years ago I sold mine, to a friend of a member here. I just did not use it anymore. I still have a DW 6 inch blue .22, that gun has the lightest d.a. trigger of any gun I have ever shot . Kpkot , no just the 8 inch . Back in the day DW were hard to beat , just solid great shooting guns, they've been in and out of business so many times I don't know where they stand today though . I got my .22 in the '80's and the .44 I guessing mid '90's . The guy who bought the .44 had every single model they made except the 8 inch SS I sold him!

I'm digging this one ! Little history on the brick wall . First rack my daughter at age 14 pushed it out a drainage ditch to me and I dropped it on a dead run. Turkey I shot at 9am across from the middle school by my house , could not hear him because they were having gym class outside ..... They next rack was my first deer back in the early 80's. Next to that is a mount of a buck in bow a few years ago. Oh on the rack of my first buck are two bands from the first goose I shot, he was doubled banded .

Well that story is certinlly lacking in any factual details ...... First rule of the outdoors , let someone know where you'll be and when you plan to return . Right now our oldest daughter is stomping around the pacific north west . She follows that rule and her day pack is well supplied . A day hiker needs to well prepared , the backpacker has , shelter, sleeping bags, stove , food and on and on. A backpacker gets lost, he simply camps there with all the supplies he has and waits . The day hiker needs skills to make what he has in the smaller pack him see through . Edit: little more detail . http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/nationworld/ct-mother-daughter-new-zealand-rescue-20160502-story.html How about carrying fire starters , rain gear and an extra layer or two ?

First off nice job! Both hunting and the euros. I'm gong to,try to bring this rack back to life, I killed it in bow but took a year and a half to find him ..... Anyone use potassium permanganate ? I've heard good things about using that.

Just back from a retina specialist, as I got a couple more smaller ones. Retina is good, the large floater is causing some blurriness and light sensitivity which really sucks . Hope it disapates . Retina has one thinner spot, which he said has a 17% chance of tearing at some point ... I said that's a pretty specific number, he replied this is what I do for a living .

That's a good point Wooly !

I'm not much of a turkey Hunter , oh I've killed a few but really don't know much other then going in the woods where I,know they are, and I go In around 9:00 , no way I'm getting up early ..... But that's another topic . Years ago I'd take my daughter , but often they hung up out of range . A guy who is a good turkey hunt told me to sit behind her , 20 or 30 yards and call from there . Now When they hang up out of range from the caller they're in range of the shooter . Not sure if you can leave the kid by himself , but that's worked for us . Good luck !

Inc. magazine a few issues back had a nice story about Yeti and the owners . It was really well done , the owners worked hard, took a big chance and did well, I salute them ! And yes I read, Inc. , ever since my nephews company was rated #1 fastest growing financial company in the U.S. He's also very good bow hunter !
