  1. I just use an app on my phone to measure distance to roads houses , how far I walk , measure acrage and so on . Easy to show a cop a photo of the area with distances to a yard or so,if needed. Here's where I did the acrage of one of my hunting spots.
  2. Thanks , I also had a dill pickle , but could not find a green colored pencil . Sometimes we tend to get too serious and worked up over hunting , I like to break stones and laugh, often at myself .....
  3. Homemade pierogi and venison pepper jack hotdogs from Costanzas . Forgot to take a picture so I had to draw from memory .....
  4. Or as my Father-in-Law used to say, " buy the best cry only once . "
  5. I thought this thread was about my last visit to Urgent Care !
  6. Lots of good advice. Roadkill , drawing while on stand is a good thing to , I always do it frist thing to make sure I've got clearance of limbs and vines . DB brings up another good point, draw on deer every chance you get . You'll learn how and when to move . I always shoot a field point from stand , pick a root, leaf , green piece of moss and shoot it. ( beware of moss covered rocks....) I pick a target farther away the I would normally shoot or one I have to drop to clear a limb or something .This year I plan on bringing a couple extra field points to swap out the broadheads prior to climbing down , to give me additional practice from stand. Steve D so true. I have a couple bow hunting friends out West. They go stump shooting and one guy can hit a leaf at 30 yards , but he misses Elk completely , it really frustrates the other guy .
  7. Nice haul ! A lot of deads as a ratio to sheds , do you think road kills ( near expressways and so on ) or just poor hunters ?
  8. I was going to start a "mountain lion" or "full Xbow inclusion" thread . But I'd rather be original .
  9. Just add water ! Seems all I can find are dinks this year, well one could say it's harder to find the small ones I guess ! Walked about 2 1/2 hours found these 3. All along hedgerows 2 maybe 20 feet apart .
  10. I know a guy who only shoots one arrow per shooting session . Bow by back door , shoots when when he gets up, leaves for work, comes home and so on. His thing is it's easy to walk an arrow in after seeing where the first hits . Like golf you get one drive, but guys go to a range mess up the first one then adjust and do better, but in reality that first one is the only one that counts.
  11. Saw about 40 in back yards tonight . Not much of a turkey Hunter myself , I've killed a few Toms , but i average less then a couple hunts a year . I will say though , one of my buddies gets up his normal time eats breakfast and heads out , he kills Toms every year . I tend to do the same when I do go ,I hate getting getting up so early to beat them flying down .
  12. I like the way you practice Steve . I don't like shooting at the same spot either , to many damaged vanes and knocks. Where we differ is I see little change in poi from a stand or ground . The difference I see , and why I practice from a stand is the placement of feet on the Stand as opposed the the ground and drawing while backed against the tree . Btw I have hunted Ontario county for close to 30 years , near the old Creekside gun shop, you close ?
  13. Great pics ! I just drove to my accountants house, in one half mile stretch here in Webster I saw at least 40 birds . Not much of a turkey Hunter but I May even go a time or two this year. Who knows may find a shed .
  14. I'll give your test a try, but I generally don't shoot my bow till August or so.... If I can't keep 4 out of 5 arrows inside a 6 inch group my first try , I'll hang it up for good . Had to pull this off my Instagram , these were my first 3 arrows of the year a couple season ago, 1 at 20,30 and 40 yards .
  15. I don't care one way or another about Xbows . But then I honestly don't think killing a deer with a compound is that hard of a thing to do if you hunt a high population area .
  16. I'm really inspired by the success of you guys, and hope to get out Friday morning , weather permitting .
  17. Confirmed person shot on Lux st, just now , unknown if he was wearing Hunter orange or not .
  18. No hunting fatalities last season? We killed a boat load of deer !
  19. Happy Birthday ! One week and a couple decades from mine .....
  20. When I started bow hunting I worked on a shipping dock / warehouse , all day I would pace off distance to I beams, tow motors, heck a piece of trash on the floor. To,this day it's hard to even walk my dog around the block and not pace off distance to Mailboxes . It's an easy skill to master bow distances .My traditional friends make fun of me for having " training wheels" on my bow , can't imagine what would happen if I pulled out range finder!
  21. I thought he wanted to quit ......
  22. Close to 30 years of bow hunting ,and killing deer most every year , never used one . Nothing against them, but for me at the ranges I shoot there is not any need . My longest shot was 25 yards and I pratice ranging as I walk constantly , although with today's bows they're close to single pin out to 40 anyway and my average shot is got to be 15 yards max.
  23. Welcome , Frank ! If 14619 is you're zip code, we' re not far apart . Lots of guys from the area here.
  24. It's on the side of a steep hill ... Son of a gun to,use a climber on !
