30 inches from the tip of his horns maybe? I see about 18-20 inches from main beam to main beam.

All I'm saying is I haven't had a problem seeing nor killing deer. There obviously has to be an issue if you aren't seeing them on your property. I don't know how many acres you have to hunt on, but unless you let other people come on and shoot all your deer, you really have no excuse other than poor tactics. I say if you have been seeing deer for the acclaimed 70 years, then you did something different this year to push the deer out, or you just don't know where to find them. I had trail cams set out too, didn't see hardly anything on them. Didn't see one of the multiple bucks I saw on our farm until I got in the woods and patterned the deer. (Poor camera placement) It wasn't until gun season that I actually closed in on and killed the buck I had patterned. All from seeing him with my actual eyes, finding his sign and figuring out what he was doing. I'm no expert hunter, but I am learning and I put in some good work this year with time in the woods. Maybe those old trustworthy, guaranteed stands aren't producing like they used to. Maybe they aren't feeding/bedding in the same areas. Tough telling. We scout later summer and stay out of the woods until the season opens. We use climbers. hunt a bunch of different areas. Go in, set up and hunt, get the hell out. No messing around. Scout on the way in and way out. Once the season is over, we don't enter those woods again until the following summer. It works.

Yes, they are all grouped up right now. I sat yesterday morning and didn't see a thing. Pushed some land and had deer running everywhere. Mainly because they are grouped up. If you find one, you'll find a bunch.

I think they are all excuses. There are still deer all over the place where I hunt. A lot of it is private land though. Maybe you are hunting a lot of public land that gets pounded year in and year out? Or maybe you need better hunting tactics.

Always hang from the hind legs, not only does it drain the blood, but I think it is easier to skin and butcher that way.

I agree with G-Man. We have pushed plenty of deer out of corn fields. Get on it!

That's actualy a pretty decent score on the ASVAB. I scored an 81 and they told me I could do anything I wanted in the Marine Corps. Ended up going with Crash Fire Rescue. A lot of it has to do with your GT score. I had a GT of 120 and the minimum for Crash Crew was a 110. Not a bad score at all.

Did you shoot that deer through the hind quarters?

Looks like an old wound and maybe that clump is dead skin?

In the morning, try placing yourself between the food source (fields) and some real thick cover that they will be traveling to or along. This time of year I am finding them sticking to thicker cover and grouping up. If I see one deer I will see a bunch. If you come across some real fresh tracks then stand by for a bit. More might be coming through that area too. I like to still hunt a lot if the snow isn't too crunchy. I can cover a lot of ground that way. Take a few steps and stop. Few steps and stop. Works well for me. I have had no trouble seeing deer. If you find a nice spot, clear some ground of snow so you have soft ground to stand/move around on.

Not out today, stuck at work. Went out the day before Thanksgiving and saw 15 does all together before the snow started falling.

That's a squatch track for sure.

Family tradition! Always hunt on Thanksgiving then come in, get warm, relax and watch Cowboys football! And eat!

Thanks, a little dirty from traveling the back roads but she looks real good cleaned up. I like it a lot. And yes pretty much the exact same thing as a Colorado

This is my 2012 GMC Canyon. I went from a Ram 1500 to this and love it. Does it have the get up and go of a 1500? No, but it isn't complete weak sauce with the 5 cylinder motor. Will get up there and cruise no problem. Nice light truck that will go just about anywhere. Small enough to take down fourwheeler trails if need be. Can fit a deer in the bed and the back seat is actually quite spacious. I would say it's an all around solid truck. Also saves me on gas big time as I drive 75 miles round trip to work and back.

Renegade Hunter replied to Renegade Hunter's topic in Hunting Items For Sale and Trade
Hey guys this bow is still for sale. Considering bow season is now over and they aren't wanted I am dropping the price to $500 O.B.O for the whole lot of it. Great bow in excellent condition. Absolutely nothing wrong with it. Just looking to move. This is a pretty killer deal. Kind of want to try something new next year. Let me know. Thanks. -
2014 Hunting NY Gun Season Harvest Thread
Renegade Hunter replied to WNYBuckHunter's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I had a couple run ins with this guy during bow and gun season. During bow I had climbed out of my tree, was walking through the woods looking for sign on the way out. I look up and see him 70 yards away walking through open hard woods with a doe. Once out of sight I tried closing in on him quietly. He came back down the same trail, turned around then went back up. I drew on him at 40 yards with my climber on my back and he never gave me the shot. This past Friday I went out for a morning sit and it was snowing like crazy. Didn't see a single deer for two hours so I decided to get up and sneak through the pines. Found something that looked like a deer head about 60 yards away. Pulled up and he was bedded down looking right at me. Like an idiot, instead of waiting for him to stand up I decided I could probably shoot him in the neck. Took a crack and he ran off. No hair, no blood. Followed his tracks slowly for 200 yards and found he went right to that same brush lot where I had seen him during bow. The following day I sat right next to that brush lot on a milk crate. Beautiful 17 degrees outside with open skies. Started seeing deer early, 7:15. One doe and a spike. 20 minutes later, 3 does at 50 yards crossed into the brush lot. Half hour later a single doe crossed the same path. Popped out in the hardwoods at 40 yards and had a hard time not shooting her. Kept telling myself to just wait. 9:00 rolled around and I am just shy of being froze to the ground. Really thought about getting up and strolling through the pines again to warm up but I told myself to stick it out. 9:15, I am leaned forward looking for deer, looking to the left. When I look back to the right I see a buck standing 60 yards away looking right at me. I pull up and see that it's the buck I have been seeing. Put it on his shoulder and let the .264 win mag eat. He buckled, spun his ass around and took off into the woods. I tracked him in to that same brush lot he had run to the previous two times. Let him lay for an hour, when I came back he was stiff. Didn't make it 40 yards into the brush. My third year back from the Marines and being able to hunt. 8 Point. He is my biggest buck to date.- 45 replies

Looks just like the gun in the picture too

Yea that deer looks exhausted. Hard to eat with that much snow everywhere too I'm sure.

Imagine how deer feel getting around in 5 foot of snow. Saw this post on facebook of a deer trying to get through it. Rough time for them. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152822204005359
