  1. The finger lakes and our leeks are up. Fiddle heads are just poking through ground
  2. Are you absolutely set on Monroe county? gosh what is it your not wanting to do travel to work? there are so many great properties out there and in lower tax bases .Is it schools?
  3. So I continued working on one of the new plots raking rocks and leaf blowing...the surface soils are looking good...the smell is promising ,not as acidic as most...but OMG I have some rock raking to do...pics of raked area vs non...about 25-30 by 15 yrds...I got nearly all of it leaf blown and I only need to winch one log to the side and cut a couple of trees and a few saplings...I'm thinking this year...heavy surface lime and a real heavy red clover...then turnips in the fall...next year...we'll see what happens gully one side...brush pile fence the other, plot at the end and 170 yrds off a farm hay field, you can just see it in the first pica bit of green in the distance
  4. lol..I typed restored model T's BTW was the color one of the original model colors produced?
  5. good point...trying to figure a hands free way to propel you forward in deeper waters easier..
  6. I have been slowly cutting trees in and around it...leaving timber grade for when we decide to actually get in there and do this...It is actually the head of a Y that starts the gully. The other branch gets the main flow from the neighbors land forming a seasonal creek and this takes the flow from ours...The stand in the back ground is a ridge stand that looks down the hill to the lower section of our place...you can see forever from that stand...But the winter winds are God awful in it. It does a good job most years of funneling deer/ turkey to the area. It is a favorite buck travel zone.
  7. I'm getting lots of pics in what looks like barren turnip plots but the pic shows what they are eating...I mentioned that when I seed a turnip plot I double seed once early mid late July and then a month or more after ...the first seeding keeps the second from developing fully and it gives the deer two different sized bulbs...but it also give a early spring taste treat. the picture shows the tiny, just a little bigger than chestnuts or big acorns , firm sweet turnips... they are all over the top of the plots right now...frost heaving does this..I know they are sweet greens and bulbs because I eat them...sorta like growing those designer mini veggies. not tough or stringy either. so That is why I talk about doing the over seeding..For one thing, it helps keep them off the emerging clovers
  8. Thanks for that honest assessment...I did buy a different Bushnell last year and like the pics...hate the battery and the snow ice collecting grid across the flash array...good summer camera I suppose and great distance...This one is suppose to be one of the "fastest" on the market..did get a good, not best review from one of the cam testing sites...they didn't like the lack of some functions and the time of night videos but liked the recovery time...I do not do videos much other then turkey season. I'm not looking for a fantastic cam...just one that will last a while and give me an idea of what is out there...I'm not framing these pics..... This is an older I think around 2015 model from what I can surmise...I misspoke, it's lightening fire not force...I was looking at a whole lot of cameras that day...lol https://huntingcameras.tech/product/311806985114/bushnell-lightning-fire-trail-hunting-scout-camera-pir-8mp-bus119588c.html
  9. Nicely done! Will you use flippers in the summer to follow birds? or try mounting a small electric trolling motor?
  10. I was hoping someone else had this cam to let me know what to expect...not popular? doesn't work well? everyone gone to cellulars? That seemed to be the Gander situation lots of cellular cams...Since filing everything offered on line has been cut in half.
  11. Happy Birthday and may you have a fantastic year...
  12. Beautiful job...Dated a guy that did old model A's...So much work. His brother supermodel T' s. One was in high school the other in college...takes dedication and lots of craftsmanship.Kudo's
  13. Tossed salad, pork casserole, sliced pork roast, slayer of wild and long grain rice, the pork, corn, green beans, peas, another layer of rice. Top with garlic powder and drizzled with plabano avocado dressing. Cover baked 400 25 mins. Love my goat wine and last of chocolate banana cake.
  14. EJ is so right...we live on the side of a steep hill and half our place looks like a swamp right now. I won't take the Gator out to do any work.
  15. Dear Lord..I don't take pleasure in being right if I was...I just had some hunches from what you said and experience...I wish you the best...None of what your going through is designed to be fun,for anyone..but when things click, and they will ,you'll get twice the enjoyment out of it..I promise that.
  16. Well between my sons Birthday gift to me and rewards and 20% off I picked up a Bushnell lightening force cam...dang hard to find reviews on it but I really can't believe the life I have gotten out of the Bushnell I won off this site so long ago. So we'll see if it is worth the gift card he gave me. Now if I can just stop losing sd cards...arthritis in my hands has them go numb...I have lost 3 cards in the last 2 months that's getting costly...lol
  17. I use pellets in my water tanks for frogs and deer..same thing but use a mesh bag . second link is just one source and variety..Also many other solutions to see. http://extension.psu.edu/natural-resources/water/ponds/barley-straw http://www.pondalgaesolutions.com/pondbarley.html
  18. Ok I can link now so here is a link to them....multipurpose plant...can even be used in Christmas decorations....leafs are very much like holly and if planted near your home berries are not poisonous to the kids or animals...plus pretty flowers in spring..for hunting ...good semi shade food source...game birds fox, deer, bear http://www.wildflower.org/plants/result.php?id_plant=maaq2
  19. Barley straw for a natural way..doesn't kill but stems growth so now is the time...you need to research just how much to use for pond size..too much and the break down can reduce oxygen and kill fish... just measure place in an onion type bag, 50# size tie up and weigh it down by tying a rope around a rock(one rope won't slip off) and shot line to bag
  20. It doesn't always get this high nor last long enough...otherwise I would...but we do get Woodstock that come in and nest in that area. It use to last nearly half the summer, but we had a test hole dug ..it has 2-3 ft of grey clay in it but the hole opened it up, so now it drains faster. If I can only get Mr. B to truck his sized out to get it inspected and worked on...He refuses to use it until that's done.. he just starts it and moves it periodically..2 years now...Love him but he has some quirks
  21. This is actually where we want to put the pond...right now it is a wet season pond...spring and fall rains ...all winter iced over...springs like this we usually get mallards for a little while...good frog pond if the rains happen a few times a week...Deer and great for morning turkey...
  22. nice thick beards there.. good luck to you and the misses
  23. Things are different here then..I do as well, you guys read me complain about it enough. They ( wives tag) shoot 6-8's just not the "target" bucks.. Good God! reading all these threads Makes me think NYODN is faking the deer kill pics, importing them from out of state and there is some sort of invisible high fence around a large section of 8N.,M,and H where I use to live. Well perhaps all this back and forth has accomplished one thing...If anyone from the DEC has been following it...They have a better idea of where to concentrate The let them walk campaign and where it was self imposed starting many years ago. So until next year, tuck it in and put it to bed.
