growalot replied to Rebel Darling's topic in Deer Hunting
I am curious as to what you c encoder central NY.... Consider to be -
5.5 year old what? buck?...been eating deer since I was young, Grandfather and grandmother hunted deer.. only nasty tasting deer I have ever eaten or prepared were old rutty buck...and I've prepared a good many 1 1/2,2 1/2 yr. old buck that tasted no different than a doe

I did this last year using a 2% solution with good results..I have some dang tough perennials.. Though this spring wild rye will be a killer...so the clover will get hit with a spray this week if temps hold and then as the next round of rain comes in I will over seed with a clover mix. http://www.growingdeer.tv/#/how-to-use-a-diaphragm-mouth-call-clover-food-plots-and-more

They did an excellent job showing how to use a diaphragm... That said, take that advise and try without the mouth call and engage your vocals it's all done the same way. Enjoy http://www.growingdeer.tv/#/how-to-use-a-diaphragm-mouth-call-clover-food-plots-and-more

I use weather underground ...which I think uses the national weather...but also has the radar for the area we are in listed...we have 4 local data gathering units on the local farms, both hill top and valley.

Unless lake trout...I have always gone with a smaller hook..that said ...hey, I don't get too technical when fishing if it works use it...

Ok just fire all of them some body Please!... Today severe weather high winds 100% chance of rain and thunderstorms all day...It's breezing 60 and up until just now blue skies and sunny. So I look again 30% chance of rain and overcast. Good thing I didn't listen and went for my walk and did a little work... Then I click on the SEVERE weather alert tab...Flooding Thursday through Saturday.I'm thinking I'm not holding my breath, seeing it's Tuesday and they couldn't get it right in an 8hr time frame let alone several days. What really bothers me about this is the satellites.. I watched a show about all the ones circling the earth and how they all map every single aspect of our world 24/7. Temps, layered wind currents and speeds, ocean currents and speeds...ect...ect..ect and they don't' seem to get as close to being right as the guys did when I was a kid 50 bleeping years ago! When technology like we have today, was only in comic books! OK I'm done...

You be dang careful cutting those dead standing... if yours are like ours they are : 1. punky 2. riddled with bugs 3. full of woodpecker holes This makes a top snap more than likely when your cutting...We just had an 80 ft. one we had to let drop on it's own. Fell yesterday it literally blew up into several heavy sections when it hit....3-8 ft sections. standing dead around here stay that way unless they are under 4 in calipers. or due to drop on equipment areas or buildings.

Oh but TF...with what I see you eat...take a cue from Jeremy K...add some lentils to your diet....They are cholesterol flushers..

SailingHudson...no kidding! Just found out from neighbor a local got caught with a slew of buck heads and charged with poaching ,no tagging and jacking. They were asking if the DEC would revoke their licence and if they called would they tell them. I said being region 8 they'd have better luck getting the info from outdoor news.. Probably the guy that jacked deer of our place a few years ago..one down out here a dozen or so to go.... Oh also found out the local hunting " club" that has leased up a whole bunch of farm land around us just added another 2 farms...knocking more young guys out of the picture for those properties..All big buck hunters.

Sometimes signs of spring come early. When doing land work any good days for non field outdoor prep work is a sign of spring. Yep calling for snow on Friday...just means one last chance to frost seed with temps. due to hit 28. Can't use the tractor yet so the heavy harrow drag is coming out with a log tied to it on the Gator.I'll do some weed /moss ripping...then lay down some lime in a couple of areas. My peas need to go in this week and I'm way behind starting all my garden brassica, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower,Brussels sprouts.
-
Rare deer steaks with mushrooms and onions, seasoned peas, herbed wild and long grain rice.

Told my neighbor about this and a few others over the past few weeks..WOW no one out here seems to know anything about this....that says a lot right there...The neighbor was practically giddy about it. The guys behind them have 200 acres in 8M across the Valley...If it passes they will be out hunting more next year ...less chance of pushing deer to them.

I just spent the afternoon scrubbing down the JD990...This will be the first grub getter, next one will be scrubbing out the old grease and dirt, then a final go over and a wax . That I'll do just before Mr B. does a oil and grease job on it...good thing she's going in for a paint job...There are a few rust issues one being around the tire valves and inside rims. What a job! So many little nooks and crannies...my hands are about shot along with my back...
-
To drop...I got a close up of a doe with a very enlarged milk sack ...no no a tumor or cyst and her belly dropped just like when the goats would be ready to go.. copied and pasted but the dang thing didn't show up and I deleted the card...any ways it was a pretty big doe...I'd give her no more than a week 2 tops...hope she passes by that cam again. That's pretty early, an early Oct breeding...I've watched breeding here in late Sept. before.

We've had it for years...some trees go faster than others though not all trees have it...they will live quite a long time with it.

Baked chicken, potato, spiral butternut, asparagus, mixed greens salad.

Stick them in a draw...evenually toss

LOL...Such disdain towards one group of hunters...though I suppose if you dropped a ozonic or two a modern gun hunter could fit in a giant spotting scope and tripod or 2.
-
Well Biz your meal is what Mr B wanted to grill for my Birthday, crab legs and all...Though I like Chinese So I decided to make pork fried rice and stir fried veggies with teriyaki chicken...coffee ice cream. White stag wine... Yours looked great. Perhaps when we can enjoy the outdoor grilling..not 34 degrees..Mine was awesome...
