  1. So hows that going to effect any future timber prices should you decide to do a select cutting...off of just 9 1/2 acres we earned enough to buy our tractor out right. Just something to consider
  2. Lets hope there is a whole lot pf practicing taking place this summer
  3. The Guns of Navarone Little Big Man Avatar
  4. just realized I totally left out a word in that thought...I truly hope your services aren't needed as much
  5. I have to do a PS on that swiss chocolate banana cake... Mr B ate 3 pieces last night...I said I'm a collector in another thread..Well that includes bad bananas. You know the ones that turn brown no one wants to eat..I toss them in the freezer for banana bread...I do not like banana bread. See I was 4 H leader...want to guess the go to for the kids learning how to do presentations...Oh ya Banana bread. So my daughters home and opens up the freezer for Ice and see's...OK this sounds bad.... dozens of black frozen bananas( that's what happens when you freeze them, the skins darken) Well she razzed me pretty bad about it... I figured I'd best start using them... So last nights cake was a mix...Swiss chocolate That I made using 3 eggs 1 cup of water and 3 defrosted bananas that equaled just under 1cup. The banana flavor was subtle but the cake was very moist and had ZERO added fat..also to my surprise they didn't make it real sweet. The frosting was a bitter sweet dark chocolate frosting. So bananas work pretty well in sweet baked goods calling for oil...banana cookies, banana coffee milk shakes, banana muffins, pudding, banana brownies...I will eventually get that collection down to what looks like a sane level...lol
  6. They finally got it right....we have well over an inch of wet snow and it's still snowing so we could get the 1-3 they predicted. though the winds barely moving the flag so 20mph with 40gusts isn't any where near us as of yet. Think I'll have time to finish trimming the pear trees and grapes can't complain it's really pretty out there. and it will keep the Toms from being to "frisky" with the hens too early in the season.
  7. 31/2 tops but I am still leaning to 21/2 , doesn't look to be a lot of mass, angle but flow to brisket seems to fall a bit higher then brisket, head seems a tad narrow to be very old.
  8. Parmesan encrusted chicken breast, roasted potato, roasted dilled Brussels, mixed green salad, Swiss chocolate/banana cake.
  9. God bless and rest in peace...Thanks for all the laughs over the years....
  10. We were just discussing Rivers...We thought the price jump was 2yrs old...He turns 2 in August.... 380 is nothing. Say 20.00 a week in snacks. that's just 19 weeks of snacks out of 52 weeks in one year...Who couldn't manage that!...Now I was talking a normal snacker not TF... I'd think it would only take him 7 weeks...lol
  11. up and about 4 inches of green... won't be long now...Leek potato soup with bacon or ham and a sprinkling of cheddar... doesn't get too much better than that. Well stuffed leek leafs...leeks and venison steaks...leek sandwiches..leeks in everything!.... Speaking of... Have any of you ever noticed that in areas with a whole lot of leeks...the deer tick problem isn't quite as bad?
  12. If it's going to flood the rain had better start soon...because I have been out all morning until 1:30 and it was windy but gorgeous to work. Just as I hit the door it started to sprinkle but that was only enough to wet the drive. It is 46.8 which means 44 here, tops. That is a 4 degree drop since 6am this morning. So again so much for rain all day....
  13. A little bit ago...We were headed home from working on the new brush pile fence and he sounded of up the hill above the ridge...I let loose with a return Gobble and he gobbled back...then Angel and I headed in the opposite direction home...THAT was FUN...I can hardly wait. He was were we were not to long before us for I walked over his droppings on the way up the hill. I am so very curious as to how this new fence will effect their movements...It's a tad longer than I originally thought about 150 yards...I have about 1/3 of it to 3 ft and the rest between 1-2 foot....I'll have most of it at least chest high by summer This is clearing the wood lot floor big time...It's a pleasure to walk though now...The turkey can scratch much easier and I have roughed up the ground litter dragging big limbs ,so under growth should take off...already seeing many more fern. Big down fall /logs stay...between that the new plots and old ones and water I'm putting in I should be able to get the critters to run the center of our place much more...once the fence is chest high deer wont jump it...They tend not to jump what they can not see over or through.Critters are moving in already...Had to yell at Angel digging up the fence twice.......increase rodents increase fox and birds of prey increase rabbits and song birds... lots of work but worth it.
  14. Don't' forget the side profile of the head( >)That is wider jaw line to top of head in an older buck...You know Chas I posted several good links with picture! also the "crown" or forehead plate the fur starts taking on a more reddish tone and looks more prominent. The noses (nostril area) seems to broaden ...thus the term we use in, "old shovel nose" Would be a bad idea to subscribe to Growing deer TV
  15. One of the members here built something similar 1-2 yrs ago...think it's in the DIY thread.
  16. You forgot the forum baiters and the analyzers that fray being indifferent and above it all showing their intellectual superiority....
  17. Son got one for a steal from Wally World a few years ago... loves it
  18. METAPHOR...I never once said I didn't want any regulations..a OBR would be a regulation...But hey tell me what else I was thinking as I typed. People like you feel it's OK to tell myself and others what we should think is an appropriate buck. This even if you have to do an end run around the people that are getting paid to make those decisions.
  19. Lol...I'd reply but my mouth is full of your words again.....
  20. That's called compromise. See non AR supporters are willing to say hey if it is actually close to being for herd health, we are willing to compromise and drop a buck tag. Where AR supporters want the power to be dictators and there is no compromise in a dictatorship. It's all or nothing. More and bigger racks is all that will squelch their need to be top dogs. Mathewzshooter...if you want to fit in you need to learn how snide really is worked..lol
  21. Happy Belated guys hope it was a great day...may your year be fantastic
  22. See Mathewzshooter...you could even finish that paragraph without throwing out a snide comment..
