  1. My wife and I took our 6 day "winter" camping trip to Las Vegas last week. Temps were around 80 degrees every day when we were labriously walking up and down the strip. Dined on those prickley king and snow crab legs then took the evening baths in that nasty jaccuzi each night. I'm getting too old for these uncomfortable camping trips.
  2. I'm just buying my pps again this year in Wyoming. Bought my pps for Utah yesterday
  3. I'm thinking it was the realtors ploy to arouse your curiosity to buy the house
  4. I started this topic to see if we could have an intellegent discussion regarding the possible over population of coyotes in certain areas of NY, especially in my area of Delaware County. Many of the replies have been sniping at one another which is very disheartening to me. We should be fellow hunters looking out for the best of mother nature's resources and not berating each other over gray areas of the game code. Most of the replies have been very well thought out and expressed as in Nyantler's writings. I look forward to more mature responses.
  5. The 270 is an extremely flat shooting round. Federal Premium, 150 grain Nosler Partitions is what I have use for over 15 years. Have used it on whitetails, mulies and a couple of mountain goats. Killed my NY buck at 400 yrds last year. It is a great round for medium sized game.
  6. I agree that coyote population control is a tricky issue. But the bottom line is that they need to be reduced in some way. They were never a problem until they made their way east and started filtering into our area about 25 years ago. It is more common to walk or sit outside after dark and hear more than one pack yipping and howling than not anymore in my area. I don't know what the answer is, maybe 365 day season. I hope the DEC is on it because coyotes are changing the whole wildlife completion in the southern zone..
  7. I believe most guys use the "triple S" method on coyotes. Just like the ranchers and outfitters were doing out west with the wolf problem until those states opened a season.
  8. There were a ton of rabbits around this spring, I have not seen any around in a few weeks now. I guess I know what happened to them.. I've seen a couple of fishers too.
  9. Here is a pic of 6 coyotes in one of my food plots. pic is from last week. We are overrun in Delaware County
  10. I've been in that position myself a few times. I did the same thing as you.
  11. My friend who has been an elk and mulie outfitter in Idaho for over 30 years swears by his boot treatment. He soaks his boots in WD 40 overnight and then allows them to dry for a few days. He also treats his lightweight hiking shoes the same way. I use the Kenetrek Boot Treatment, I believe it is mostly bees wax.
  12. I saw one in 4O last year in October and 2 more this summer. They are making a come back for sure
  13. Can't keep them out once they get a taste of turnip greens, frost or no frost
  14. This past weekend, my friend waited 1/2 hour at Gander Mt. in Middletown for clerk to issue him his license. He got so upset he had to walk away without it. Computer would not print out the tags
  15. Hey Charlie, Glad to see you joined the forum. Lot's of good info hear Can you use your detective skills to figure out my real name? One clue, I live in the town north of you, , but my forum name should be all you need Catskillkid
  16. Hardly any fawns in 4O also, but have lots of coyotes. Think there is any relationship? Of course
  17. I also have had problems with DMPs in the past, a call to DEC always straightened this out. Had the correct tag in the mail in a few days
  18. nice pics, you grow them tall in your neck of the woods
  19. I went to buy my 2014 hunting license this morning The issueing agent told me that he had seen a couple of landowners that were rejected for their DMP antlerless permits. He said there is an outside chance that other applicants for that particular unit may get a permit before landowners. Seems to me that it was just a computer glitch. I can't believe that a non taxpayer would get a permit before the landowner. Permits have always been given to landowners before everyone else as long as permits were to be issued in the unit. Has anyone heard of this? I did get my permit for 4O though
