Nice pics. What is that black thing?

Sorry I missed this, hopefully all went good with the scan. I was surprised to read that it's been three years already! I'm far from religious but if I remember tonight before I hit the rack, I'll sneak in a little prayer for ya! Here's to MANY more August anniversaries!!

I was thinking, why buy the cow when you can get this for $45........ Probably a good life lesson there.
-
AHHHHHHHHH, GROSS. You are sick Paula.......................................

Ha! You guys are making damned good use of the inclement weather. Heck, it ain't like you can cut grass, work in the garden, wash windows, stain the deck, paint the barn, re-roof aunt Joanie's cottage, wax the car, go to the beach etc. Crank out the fun stuff!!!!
-
Good on you, Cheers!

I got my ammo loaded and decided I'd head to the range and test a couple loads. Tossed all my stuff in the truck and headed out. Got a few miles from home and noticed the wind was a bit stiffer than I originally thought. The rain doesn't bother me as it's a covered bench but the wind was just too much. Truck latch: check Hair cut: check Bank:check Reload for the 260Rem:check Oh well, a cup of T Horton's java and I'm thinking up a plan to finish up the day...................

and 240's in the 30-06 are for what, big northern whitetails????
-
Damn those sheep hunters! Good information, hopefully you'll get some finer details only because that's the fun stuff!

I've got some running around to do; haircut, banking, reloading the 260Rem and a trip to North Tonawanda for a new "palm" handle for my ARE cap. PIA thing has been a bit stiff for a year or two and I've tried to lube it a couple times but nothing helped. Well it snapped the other day and now I need a new one.......... Wife & son are working, daughter is home for the weekend, dinner is my responsibility. Daughter says, "hey, how about venison burgers for dinner?" After I got up off the floor I said OK, that would be great!! Tomorrow I hoping to check trail cams and do some shooting. How's about YOU?

Dandy buck! Details on the shot and autopsy results? How about the service he employed for research, happy with that? ( I know the proof is in the pudding as a dead buck resulted but curious if he'd use them again) Eagerly awaiting replies.......

Thin barrel means three shot groups to me. Then unfortunately after that three shot group that thin barrel might need as much as 10 minutes to cool all the way down, maybe more?? (you could always mothball the quest until cold weather arrives...... ) You've probably mentioned it but what is the gun & chambering? Have you tinkered with seating depth? Different primers? Whoa.......................hang on there buckaroo, WTH is "Getting out to a range has also been a challenge with a family now." Say WHAT, you get hitched and have kiddo's now? Congrats!!

I use a couple methods of selecting powder. First I'll see what the bullet manufacturer says is the most accurate and if that powder doesn't trip my trigger I'll go with a favorite of mine such as H335, IMR4350, RL15, RL19 etc that is also compatible with the bullet. Then I'll formulate a plan starting below book max by loading 3-5 cases with half grain powder increments UNDER MAX. IE: 44gr MAX I'd load at 42.5, 43, 43.5 and see WTH is cooking as they roll through the chronograph. If all is cool with FPS and pressure looks good (black magic) then I may load up to the MAX of 44gr but rarely do I shoot MAX stuff. Reason being I had a badly blown primer in my 223ai one HOT summer day. The ammo and gun sat in the hot sun for a bit and BLAMO. The woodchuck died but an eyeball was almost fried too. I pulled all the bullets, dumped the powder and loaded them back up with a half a grain LESS. Woodchucks never could tell the difference................................... You've been loading for a while now, haven't you? How's it been going?
-
Oh come on now, say it ain't so?? I suppose the next thing you're going to say is people don't report bucks TOO? That tattoo ink is getting to your brain dude....................................

I'm guessing that 16.2% of 432K were filled.............

Cool read, Red. I wonder what year it was that they eliminated the killing of an antlered deer on a DMP permit? And......when did they do away with the multi-person DMP deal??
-
OK guys............2+ months to go. Shoot another 20 rounds through 'em and REALLY be ready!! WOOT!!
-
Unfortunately change is inevitable. Sorry to hear about the changes but I'm suspecting some big changes coming for things in the deer camps I frequent. Fond fond memories over 35+ years.....................................

OK enough BS, tomorrow is opening day of gun deer season. (I could only hope!!) What is your gun/chambering of choice and are you ready? I am ready.......with my second choice rifle! 2nd choice will be the .243 ULA. 1st choice and most probably the gun I'll be toting will be a .260 Remington. It's a Remington CDL action with a Rock Creek #3 barrel in a McMillan Edge stock. Nothing too fancy but it is a great shooter. 120gr Barnes TTSX bullets will be the projectile launched towards the target. I don't think I've carried it at all hunting for deer. So what are you carrying tomorrow?

You haven't hunted until you've hunted dove. (period)

Your X must be gorgeous 'cause the little princess didn't get those looks from YOU. Congrats to the little lady!!

The shorter version of what you're thinking about is the ticket, about 6' is perfect. All the adjustment it affords is what makes them so valuable. Once you're at the height you want to be at you just set the prusik to the perfect length. There is always one in the front pouch of my climber.

I knew I could count on you, Paula.

Hey guys, Happy Birthday! This one almost got by me. Plans for the day? ME? Well I'm having a little bash here for family. We're short a couple kids that are off to college but there will still 12 or so. Hamburgs, hot dogs, potato salad, beer, green salad, deviled eggs, beer, dessert and beer. Have fun you guys and everybody else on this fine (but TOO freaking hot) Labor Day.

Seems like when I'm hunting I can hear great, at home; not so good. Strange..........................
