  1. Who's the expert here on Silver Lake? (OK, maybe I don't need an expert ) I fished it today, last minute decision to head down there. By the time I got on the water it was a little after 9am and in the begining only caught a couple small bluegill and lost one monster something?? The big SOB fought like a beast for a few seconds then swam straight for the boat, ducking under the boat so fast I barely had time to dip my rod tip in the water to try and re-direct he/she. No dice, all of a sudden I hear a big splash and look over my left shoulder and catch a glimpse of a big fish slapping the water. BAMMMMMM, show's over. Busted line and ego on my end. Around 11:30 or so I headed across to the east side. I started drifting in about 15-24' of water and then the bite was on! No biggie to most of you guys but it was fun. Every other cast saw either a small perch or decent bluegill come to the boat in addition to a real nice largemouth and a bunch of little smallmouth. I pulled out around 2pm as it was getting warm and I'd had enough, seeing as I started out the trip with ONE beer and ZERO cigars I think I earned the handful of fish that I kept. So, who else has fished it before? Hot spots? (I won't tell a soul.......)
  2. Man you could publish that reply it's so long. (Grins)
  3. May? Now you sound like a fisherman.........................
  4. I don't have mine yet either but I'm not too concerned. I made a change of address after closing my Post Office Box. When I called the fine folks at the DEC they were great; a new plastic card came within a week reflecting the change to my home addy. Good people, they'll get it here no sweat.
  5. I thought you already had one John?? Oh well, confusion abounds in my head. I'll bet you enjoy it, good luck.
  6. Electrical tape is never a bad idea, FWIW.
  7. Paula is correct. Maybe I misunderstood the original question but the show Bob does is a general talk radio show out of Rochester. I thought you were looking for a dedicated hunting program. I've been a fan of Lonsberry for many years and listen quite often even in Buffalo. I don't know that he is much of a bird hunter but is certainly a deer hunter and definitely pro gun.
  8. Seems like we had one here some years ago but it was broadcast at 5 or 6am on one of the weekend days. I don't know if I ever heard it as I would usually be sound asleep in bed or would just forget it was on when traveling early in the morning. Maybe another local can give up some more details??
  9. I forgot to respond to this.........good luck with the sticks, they're as good as it gets! Sometime when you are coming in, give me a heads up and I'll meet you again. Did you get wings again and if so, how were they??
  10. I wanted to add this one.........kind of neat looking up the hill but absolutely does NOT convey the steepness of the slope.......................
  11. Why did I smile when I read this? In a different kind of way I'm glad they are guns you used, not safe queens. I have SQ's also but honestly my "users" are really much more important to me. Good luck man, I hope they all show up in one piece and the perps get their due.
  12. Just an update on yesterday......... My wife and I thought about going up to see her father in Waterport but with all the heat, humidity and lousy a/c we went to plan B. I sent Pygmy a quick PM and inquired if he and the Mermaid wanted to meet my wife and I down at the Mountain View in Atlanta NY for their family style chicken and biscuits Sunday only dinner. They agreed to go and we set a time of 4PM. Hmmm.......now what are my wife and I going to do on the way???? Well. a friend reminded me of a fine little spot down on the east side of Hemlock Lake (south of the south end), just north of Springwater called Reynolds Gully. It's a series of small waterfalls in ravine with some super steep walls. (you can Google more info) We made it to the spot around 2:00pm or so, made the hike up and had a blast! It is an awesome place to visit, easy 10 minute hike upstream and some gorgeous country to boot. After our hike we took a slow ride down to Atlanta and me up with Dan (Pygmy) & Sis (The Mermaid) at the Mountain View. Dinner was delicious and the company even better, we all left stuffed to the gills! After super Kathy and I headed up north past my uncle's old cabin in Naples, off Garlinghouse Rd. Then we stopped at my friends in Canadice for an after dinner vodka & tonic and a nice Macanudo cigar around the hot tub. (he was in, we weren't!) We made it home shorty after 9pm, fat and happy. The best birthday in years!
  13. Sorry to hear, they'll have a nice warm spot in hell waiting for them someday.
  14. Where in GODS name is the fun in that? A guy looking for some used iron will roll the dice and see what is on the shelf, 20, 30, 100 miles it don't matter! .............who knows, maybe he'll spot a nice bolt action.
  15. When copper is present in my gun barrels the patches come out blue but I'm NOT using Hoppe's for that job. Hoppe's #9 isn't really made for copper removal. From their site: "Hoppe's No. 9 remains the most widely used remover of powder, lead, metal fouling and rust" If you have very mild copper fouling it'll help but if the bore really has a build up you're best to use a copper fouling specific product and a good brush. It takes time and effort but is worth it in the end. I like Butch's Bore Shine, Montana Extreme and Sweet's 7.62 Solvent.
  16. Amazing............how did you EVER come up with that? I'm getting misty.........so touched that you went to such lengths to find that! I wonder if they have a Paula clip??? Thanks!
  17. Damn, you NAILED it on that shot! Blue ribbon (for 1000th time) goes to wooly!!

X2 Yes sir JimMac, all the best to you on this fine day. Ain't a better day for a Birthday than today. Trust me, I know. Plans for your day?
  19. Borrow one and hunt with it for a year. Give it back then buy a bolt action.................... That 'ought a ruffle some feathers.
  20. Boy does time fly, seems like only a year ago we were doing this? Thanks for the well wishes. Not positive on the days plans but they'll be firmed up shortly.
  21. Oh I'm sure you'll get plenty of good info.from the folks here. What are you looking for in a rifle? I know people.................... :}
  22. A couple questions if you can answer..... 1-will a rig like that work with the IPhone? 2-can you play videos from the trail cam that way? Thanks.....
  23. We got a tick under 4" this morning here. Thunder and lightning to beat all shows!!
  24. Most of the time I don't have enough time to look a deer over good and determine if it is a 2.5, 3.5, 4.5 or whatever age it could be. You guys/gals really have the time to do that?????? Damn.........................I'm doing something wrong.
