That's the 2nd time I've heard that today. Might/could be onto something.

I had a quick but fun hunt yesterday morning. After a 2:30am wake up, I hoofed it down to Ontario County to hit one of my better spots. I heard nothing wile hooting a bit so I mooched down to a great spot to make a crow call. I had a HARD gobble only about 75 yards away from a still roosted bird. That bird really should have seen me as I came down unto him but didn't, good for me! He gobbled a half dozen times on the roost on his own before I gave him a couple soft tree calls. He responded to them and within a minute or two pitched out and hit the ground maybe 60 yards away. He came in perfect and to tell you the truth I don't think I made a call after he hit the ground but I honestly can't remember.......... A perfect window at about 30 yards and I smashed him. He weighed in at about 19lbs, 1" spurs and a 9" beard. I hunted today and covered some serious ground via shoe leather in three different spots and called from the road in a few key spots that are known to produce and never heard a peep. Super quiet morning and very surprised I couldn't raise a single bird. From hero to zero in 24 hours.

I just greased the new ones up this afternoon, used Obenauf's. A heat gun to warm them up a tad then laid it on heavy. Two hours in the sun set it in real good....... I REALLY liked these but they DON'T offer them in EE width. They would have been my first choice........... http://www.cabelas.com/product/Cabelas-Air-Revolution-Hunting-Boots-by-Meindl/1382474.uts?Ntk=AllProducts&searchPath=%2Fcatalog%2Fsearch%2F%3FN%3D%26No%3D20%26Ntk%3DAllProducts%26Ntt%3Dmeindl%26Ntx%3Dmode%252Bmatchallpartial%26WT.mc_id%3DGOOGLE%257Cfoo_v_meindl_phrase%257CUSA%26WT.srch%3D1%26WT.tsrc%3DPPC%26WT.z_mc_id1%3D43700005462381822%26WTz_st%3D%26WTz_stype%3DSP%26gclid%3DCK3f0YWnn8UCFfRr7AodIlQAZw%26gclsrc%3Daw.ds%26recordsPerPage%3D20%26rid%3D20%26search%3Dmeindl%26searchTypeByFilter%3DAllProducts&Ntt=meindl The Perfekt 10 is a German made boot. I'll be breaking them in on Saturday & Sunday..........gotta work tomorrow. First opening day of spring gobbler I'll miss in 33 years. Life's changes..............

Remember what I look like? Robert Redford/Burt Reynolds ain't even close............ Look for a curly redhead and that will be my better half. I'm the ugly mugged one with her. Don't show Mike Rossi this one but here's a recent shot: A good story follows that picture! Say hello if you see me or PM me a phone number.

I'll be there also. My wife is looking forward to it...

You guys are really something........ I'm going back to try on socks next week. I wonder if she could advise me on boot grease? This could get complicated!

OK, back on track........I then took those boots back. They seemed to have a terrible fit at the top of my foot. Strange, it felt like I could put my hand on top of my foot (of course you can't stick your hand inside a laced up boot) and still have my foot flopping around. Front to back and side to side were fine. OKAt Cabela's they were great. They said no sweat, you want your money back or credit? I kept on shopping........I tried on the Cabela's/Meindl Air Revolution and Cabela's/Meindl Air Active Hiker etc. in all kids of sizes. Then I ended up with the Cabela's/Meindl Perfect 10 insulated 400g, That one fit by far the best.....and it was the most expensive! Their boots are made in three different locations that I could see on the tongues......Vietnam, Slovenia and of course Germany. Not surprisingly the German ones fit the best. The reason I'm even getting new boots is I'm tired of stuffing my feet into boots that I bought when I took a 10.5 D size. The funny thing is one of those smaller boots is a pair of those same Perfect 10 boots that I bought in 2003. They just hurt my feet too much and I figure these new ones should last at LEAST another 15 years as the ill fitting ones are still in great shape. These days everything has to be 2EE width and either 10.5 or 11 size. Man do I hate shopping for shoes! The girl at Cabela's was very understanding and supportive, I must have tried on at least dozen pairs in the end before sticking with the "Perfect 10's" that day.

I have one pair of the Muck Chore boots. They are for around the yard only.......If I ever tried to hunt in them they'd cripple me sooo bad it wouldn't be funny. I can't wear my Lacrosse Burly's anymore either, no support for my feet. My ankles are great my feet are toast. Two weeks ago I started the DREADED search for new leather boots. Because I wear prescription orthopedic inserts I need better boots for the job......First I bought a pair of Cabela's 9" Uninsulated Outfitter Boots. Got them home and figured after a couple hours around the house they were way to clunky, heavy and the fit wasn't 100%. Took them back and found a pair of Cabela's Meindl uninsulated Lightweight boots that SEEMED to fit awesome! Got them home, traipsed around the house for a couple hours. Then took the dog for a hours walk and figured out the fit was way off.........DAMNITALL!! OPPS, I'll finish in a bit, momma needs something..........................

Bummer but life goes on..........before you know it October will be upon us.
-
No kidding? Are you doing anything to elicit a gobble or just doing your daily activities?
-
You coming home to hunt in May?
-
Sounds like it was a success. Did you run into many guys? Hear much shooting?
-
Not me but I have no feeder or bears to fret over. Why not pull yours down for a bit, the birds should be able to find buckets of worms around.
-
How about that! I never knew Pepperidge Farms had snack items..........I'll have to check them out.
-
The BOW? I have a feeling you will be bringing home the poultry regardless of the weapon you choose.
-
Great job Joe! 7 more birds let huh?????
-
Hot dog that sounds like fun! What's the deal on Maine, where are you hunting?

I'm going to warm up tomorrow by fishing with Pygmy. We'll hit Honeoye bright and early..........crappie beware. I have a week to get ready for those spring gobblers!! It won't take too long to get ready, the vest is hanging near my bench, turkey tags are installed in wallet, shells are rounded up. Calls are another story, I found one old mouth call and nothing else in the vest. For some reason I must have put them in a drawer. No sweat though, I'll round up a slate, box and my hooter. Crow call is always hanging from a shoulder strap on the vest. Water and snacks will be procured the night before. Shiiit paper is in EVERY pouch. Mask, gloves and hat are all an easy find too. What am I missing??

I was apart of one escaped buffalo hunt a number of years ago. My BIL called me for a back up rifle (375H&H) after a buffalo jumped the fence at a farm in Niagara County. Seems the Parks Police, Niagara County Sheriff and the New York State Police didn't (at least at the time) have a gun capable of handling the situation if it got hairy. You see that horny buffalo was snooping around a farm next to a State Park and there were campers around. After a quick trip up and some planning I had my BIL dial up the NYSP chopper, a proper tranquilizer and a tranquilizer gun from the Buffalo NY Zoo to deliver the message to the big beast. The chopper directed the buffalo closer to a paved road and then they stuck a dart in his ass. We had the buffalo owner come by with a horse trailer and we pushed and pulled the big SOB in for a ride back to captivity. At one point the pilot of the chopper said he thought the buffalo was coming my way (as communicated to me by the Parks Police officers cowering behind with their hand held radios ) I thought to myself, damn this could get sporty! Fortunately the buffalo and everyone else went home in one piece. One other thing; it had to be an expensive day for the agencies involved with overtime pay, fuel and airtime for the chopper. Everybody made money but little old ME. It was fun though! I'm waiting for my phone to ring now...........I have a proven plan we can use.

Like others here I've used and killed with all three vertical bows but I'll be sticking with the compound for the foreseeable future.
