  2. Made noise and spooked deer I guess. Or playing with my phone while a nice buck walked by Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
  3. I let them walk. I was gutting a nice big doe last MZ season when a fawn came back and at about 20 yards stood there and watched. The doe was part of a group of 7 so didn't feel as bad, but that event wasn't one I cherish.
  4. Not promoting breaking the law, but that's a dumb law. Successfully Defending myself from a bear attack would be a lot more important than a fine.
  5. That sucks to hear grow. Sounds like a pretty bad run of luck. Hope you heal up quick and keep getting into the woods
  6. It's more about the opportunity to keep hunting after you kill one. I'd hate to kill a nice buck early October and then be done. I actually enjoy the hunt more than the kill.
  7. again, it's been warm.perhaps a new food source has started producing or a field/crop was harvested? lots of variables. Don't freak. If yotes are there, it wouldn't be an instant shift. it'd be a gradual decline and you'd have seen most activity when they drop in the spring.
  8. I gun hunt as well. Still think there needs to be a shorter gun season. I think that almost makes it more fun. 2 weeks is more than enough. See I can understand that view, and for folks like you and I who have good action it may hold true. But again, remember only 43% of hunters in the NE (www.qdma.com/uploads/pdf/WR2013.pdf) even kill a deer (horns or no). I think the 1 buck limit doesn't do much for the state. When I need meat I stick a doe and I know a lot of others do too. If you want to grow a deer you put your own limits on what you harvest. At the end of the day none of this matters because the DEC has made it clear that they're in it to decrease the population and have zero intentions on improving the quality. And that's a fact.
  9. sounds like most of the rankings were based on the cold and snow. Heck, Wisconsin is on that list haha. But there is definitely a lot more land and a lot less pressure in the south. You don't see the same "property boundary and trespassing" issues in the south.
  10. that's upsetting. i pulled the trigger yesterday.
  11. lacey finally paid off for me last night.
  12. is this the same injury from last year?
  13. small bucks being killed is not the result of too many tags. It's a lack of ARs. Hunter success ratio for NY is in the low teens if I remember right. Personally I'd like to see the state go to a 2 buck system regardless of season. As it stands now I'd rather take 2 with a stick and string and be tagged out by gun season. To me, 2 deer is 2 deer regardless of how i harvest them.
  14. great early season buck. congrats. bet he has a bunch of fat an no neck or stink.
  15. the weather has been warm and it's early in the year so be patient. Are you getting yotes on your cams too or just hearing them?
  16. we call those comp days. Put in plenty of extra hours and it give you a little wiggle room for doctors appointments or to sneak out at 3 like I did yesterday. Of course the HR guy walks in while I'm shampooing my head in the sink with scent free stuff haha.
  17. welker. Watkins is too unknown with a new QB. I benched watkins in my flex last week for Steve Smith and it sure as heck paid off
  18. public land Mississippi. I'm in Oxford (Ole Miss territory). About an hour south of Memphis. Very non-typical southern area, but you can go 15 minutes in any direction and be reminded.
  19. i found this interesting right off the bat deer hunting success is all relative... but hard to argue with this
  20. just to play devils advocate. Not all land owners really know their property. Is it surveyed?
  21. no just google search coyote fawn and you'll find a lot more like it
  22. don't start disrupting the whole woods. still early and warm. hunt your food and water sources and leave the good rut activity spots for a few more weeks.
  23. So as some of you know,I took my talents to the south. Some interesting and different trail cam pics down here (sorry about date/time messed up) coon hunters
  24. I am not shrugging my shoulders. I am not even trying to justify it. I am bothered by the anti-family remarks from some in this thread. Remember I did more than anyone on this forum has ever done and took my mortgage, and well paying job and tax dollars out of state. If more and more people leave it will send a message. By the way Patacki was a Repub.
