  1. lol.... so i've got Rage, NAP, Muzzy, and Magnus heads. Chances are if it's a compound it'll be the same Rage 2 blade titanium heads i've used for years or Muzzy MX-3's i have a pack of just sitting there. if it's the recurve it'll be Magnus Stingers and if i run out NAP Hellrazr's. Barely a difference if it's spin tested before it goes into the quiver. Wind can be screwy between heads but i try to keep all the same heads in my quiver and not mix and match.
  2. glad it went well. i just helped teach one just over a week ago at a rod and gun club. we had a covered range with targets from 10 - 50 yards. some brought their bows and others didn't. we had Mathews Genesis bows to fit about anyone to try just for fun and exposure. i even brought my own hunting bow more for discussion. tried to help everyone at the range. many left with a lot of confidence. some didn't bother to shoot at all. other screw up horribly or just a little but were too proud to except any of my advice. i wish everyone brought a bow if they had it.
  3. multiple groups around here run dogs the day after deer season and they're pretty sufficient. they do a good job at thinning them out. properties are small here in NY, so it's difficult to be as productive by sitting in a spot and call them in. home ranges are too big. running dogs can cover a lot of ground. my best year with moderate effort was only a handful of yotes dead. each group around here that run dogs ends up getting around 20-30 by season end.
  4. yea that's like the mountain lion crap. stuff i've seen on social media seemed legit and definitely yotes. just came across a couple filmed mid day keeping someone in their car. didn't seem overly aggressive but too curious and persistent for their comfort. i believe it was in loudonville.
  5. only one ive seen on the news was that one in fort edward. one other earlier in the summer south of there. all the others have been people sharing stuff on social media, usually followed by the "sad, i wish someone could come relocate them". if it's a friend i just tell them to haze and harass them so they don't get used to hanging around. almost all the cases discharging a gun would leave you worse off than it attacking probably.
  6. seems we've got more than normal too. been a couple very productive fawning years though. rabbit numbers seem to be going down.
  7. haha.... they've put some down out this way just this year because they were getting too bold for their own good, harassing or attacking people. nobody was eaten to form the decision but i wouldn't exactly shoo one away if my 3 yr old daughter was walking with me. i'd use a more "sure fire solution".
  8. I don't support everything he does but have no regrets voting for him when it came time to. for face value i think he should scale back the golf outings. on the other hand, how many of those were related to actually conducting activities related to his presidency? also the director was quoted as saying it's been an on going problem that's gotten worse in the last decade, not really anything to do with Trump's "needs". the really topic for discussion isn't that in the headlines.
  9. Out at the farm on Thursday. Took two more. One was a long shot. Didn't get to it to take a picture. This one was about a 100 yards but disappeared. Had to confirm despite it felt good. Holy there was holes every where in that spot of the field. Probably more that I need to go back for. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  10. some years i get it and others it doesn't show up so i have to request it as if i've never done it. everyone else get it mailed out automatically each following year?
  11. mine are actually rubber like inserts in my TightSpot quiver. they'll never where out or dull much of the blades. use anything cut to fit that won't absorb moisture. i usually don't have it full depth but cut one into multiple. that way i get multiple inserts out of one. i don't think i have anything laying around but i'll look. working on cleaning up the archery work bench in my basement.
  12. what matters more is their conditioning and size. i just pulled a trail cam and had some with spots but they were some of the stoutest fawns i've seen. doe too. didn't seem to be buck fawns that i could tell anyway.
  13. It used to be $300,000 If you drew and filled the tag in one shot for all of them. Highly unlikely. Now cost is even more. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. i've thought about trying these but they were green and looked overly out of place on all my bows.
  15. some designs you can have this happen despite they do still work. i really only use Rage 2 blade broadheads. slipcam design opens on entry and exit. holes look the same. definitely easier when you have two holes though.
  16. honestly the anticipation and doing that stuff can be just as fun as the hunting at times.
  17. it's a big one. always fun to come across one like that.
  18. two holes small holes are far and away more damage and bleeding than one big one.
  19. i'm kind of still that way now but not as bad as i used to be. i have a whole at home shop to where i can almost do anything with a vertical bow. i only have a half dozen bows hanging now. i have a indoor fancy chrome and blue target bow i think i should get rid of. i don't shoot indoors anymore as it conflicts with indoor pistol during the colder months.
  20. there used to be an old belief that when the arrow was in a deer the larger diameter kept the wound open more and was more surface area for blood to draw out which led to a better blood trail. idk. i just take my mechanicals, high KE bow, and send one in one side and out the other. times have changed i guess.
  21. Didn't even look to see what I pulled out of the fridge. Beer is always better in front of a fire. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  22. Helped out at a bowhunter ed course. i don't know much about crossbows so another guy got put in charge of supervising the crossbow. heard about not knocking the bolt firm against the string was bad. broken nocks, strings, etc. so i told him. so i'm tending to my group. i hear a pop. turn around and see the string off the bow. it was a told you so moment but at the same time i didn't think it was that much of a worry either. that something that is really that common of an error leading to an out of commission bow?
  23. i really know nothing about bear. seems like he's got a small body though compared to his head. also i've been told to look at the width of his ears. big up right ears closer together means a small skull and young?? idk.
  24. that's cool too..... i was kind of expecting a tilled up field, with no rocks, next to a river.
