  1. not sure if it was mentioned already but last year sucked for soft mast trees like apples and hard mast was ok. this year trees seem to be loaded. if we get another wet spring going into next year, next year could be even better.
  2. i agree with larry and moog it takes more than just poor form to miss a deer within 10-15 yards. also i know guys that can shoot a perfect 450 vegas face round indoors from a flat floor at a target 20 yards away. however, i take them with a outside on uneven and unmarked distanced 3D course and they struggle. like wise, it's intimidating and a poke to shoot at a small coyote target 60+ yrds downhill at a steep grade and maybe a little off chamber. same target hit with a rangefinder on flat ground is an easy shot by comparison. i think the nails been sent home already. practice in real world situations, at angles, and on terrain that you would encounter while hunting. shooting right with proper form sure does help you succeed. if you practice accordingly i'd think if you can't stay on target it'd be readily apparent. also the old saying of most arrows within a pie plate at distance you hunt at is ill-advised and dumb IMO. you should be confident that every arrow should be on the money otherwise shorten your effective range.
  3. he's got a pretty good body on him with depth that carries right back. nice older buck. good luck getting on him this fall!
  4. awesome buck for anywhere and anyone i'd think.
  5. future booner in the background just told him off. now has gotten him nervous and worried.
  6. This weekend I was at the farm. Was told a chuck headed across the road into a recently cut hay field. Grabbed the gun and found it or one near it. Exit hole as always was crazy. Whole right side of his head is gone. Hornady 60gr vmax never let me down and about as humane as it gets. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  7. I've missed the last month of 3D league. Can make it up though. Probably will tonight or this weekend. I'll post my first shots from there. Probably won't shoot sooner otherwise. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  8. Honestly I don't know. Supplements in the water? I do know Greenlakes sp has the same look due to mineral content, precipitate formation, and other factors like layers of its water doesn't mix. Idk. Maybe ask fsw. Farm deer are his wheel house. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  9. So few days ago u had another chuck move in. Digging holes under everything. Got home from work still in dress clothes. Pulled a couple veggies from the garden and noticed him under the shed. Went inside grabbed more HP than the 22lr pistol. Worked around backside of my garage and then posted up at its corner for a good hold. He came back out for another view and it was over. Filled the holes in beat I could. Shed floor is elevated and hole is under the center of it. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  10. haha... aside from the high fenced property pond photo i pulled off the internet....... in all honesty a shallow 100-200 gallon watering tub buried in the ground works great with a density no more than 1 per 20+ acres. less is more in this case. if you can tie it into a spring with an out flow it's the perfect situation. it'll stay clean that way and won't freeze up completely. huge late season draw. otherwise you need to be able to access it with gravity flow water tank on my of atv, utv, or truck to fill it.
  11. call me a poor sport but i love hunting with a ladder stand tucked into the back side of a big pruned apple tree all by itself.

  13. When you shoot him pull 2 center front incisors. Also save both sides of the lower jaw. I'm sure someone out by you is sending some in. I could if you want. Doesn't cost much when doing as a group ($10-15). Cool info to have. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  14. Last one is good. Another cardinal sin is aging while still in velvet and not juiced up on testosterone. I think he's probably 4.5+ yrs old. Shooter by almost anyone's standards. Good luck this fall! Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
  15. we have a good few on payroll that live right here in NY though.
  16. saw the Guess Who perform American Woman and others just this spring.... before my time but it was good. something to check off a longer version of a bucket list.
  17. i'm late to the party. Moog has this thread handled! lol i completely agree. i'm between 5'-11" and 6'-0" and have been at 200+lb forever. i'm more a fluffy dad bod 215 lbs now. anyway i figured 45lb @28" weight was light enough but honestly i could've gone lighter when i started. 40 would've been and still would be nice. i don't shoot gap or string walk/fixed crawl. i shoot 1 up 2 down purely instinctive but then i can notice the blurred arrow in the sight picture. it's more of a "check" than anything and don't really pay much attention. problem is it's a bigger learning curve to start but feel when i'm practiced up and on a good day the arrow just goes where i'm looking as it's supposed too. maybe i'm dumb but it will open the door to get rusty in a hurry. it's like throwing a baseball. you don't really forget any of it and can still setup up to the plate but if you haven't shot in a while you'll be a little lack luster. so much so i'm sure it's a reason some give up. something that hasn't been said is how much my tab or glove helped. for hunting i liked the glove versus a tab. also i found out not all deerskin is equal. a damascus glove had thinner leather and helped me anchor better and feel the string more. i shot better with it.
  18. wooly has it right. can't see enough of the deer in the pictures and it's not hard antlered to tell age. certainly isn't a yearling though. said you'd love a chance at him, so choot'em and figure it out then. i'm pulling for ya!
  19. what vegans do during hunting season so they still feel productive? fire one shot in the air to alert your gathering buddy to come running with the wheel barrel. finally take a picture of your harvest. call me an a*&^$#% but i didn't get to one soon enough a couple times this season. bugs got to the back quarter and they looked like they were rotting. tossed them over the bank and didn't tell anyone. aside from that though it's been great i'm taking at least 2 a day. i mean i literally rip them from their habitat and from their siblings, and then chop them up. savage i know but i just don't care. i've got to eat.
  20. is it possible to swap preference points? haha cause where i am that's all i got.
  21. never pegged you as a die hard hootie & the blow fish fan. anyway what are your feelings about chris stapleton, brantley gilbert, blackberry smoke, or outlaws?
  22. anything but rap, hip/hop, R&B, or new modern country (unless the wife demands it). southern rock new and old country, jazz, blues, some rock, etc. all gets cranked up loud. during winter months around vacation season after long hunting seasons all that's needed is the word "sun", "beach", or jimmy buffet.
