  1. Just curious i assume many here have probably used a chainsaw for something like cutting wood for heat, habitat stuff, or cleaning up fallen trees. I know of a lot of people that have had incidents. i know of even more who haven't and don't wear any PPE; chaps, heavy boots, hearing protection, safety glasses, helmet, face shield, etc. i myself went a pretty much my whole life without wearing the full setup of chaps, helmet, etc. just glasses, boots, ear protection, gloves, and clothing to cover me. i just recently got new chaps, but then for the first time a whole all in one helmet setup with face shield. not looking for wanna be OSHA to beat up replies, but what do you guys and gals don when you pick up a saw to hit the woods? it'd be interesting to see what's brushed off or what gets more attention. obviously it should be all the above, but lets face it we all make our own decisions in life.
  2. i even use those heavy duty cork screw tent stakes when i setup blinds. done so ever since one lost a fight with the wind and a stand of locusts. we cut a lot of dead dieing or weak stuff on the farm for fire wood or just to lay down and let in light. even then good storms here and there are good for the stuff we haven't gotten to. nice when they fall into fields and trails though. eliminates skidding them out.
  3. better ....rumpunch ain't beer but still it'll do. Jamaica two years ago and had a ton of it on a party boat/catamaran. I switched Red Stripe and the young lady who was waiting on me gave me a look like i was a quiter. i just looked at her and said see you soon. went to Punta Cana this past cool season. Drinking Mama-wanna there at first. Man do they feed it to ya. That stuff will get you in trouble so I switched to regular brew Presidente. Presidente Light tasted horrible... kinda like Natty Light but worse.
  4. here i always thought you rolled in VIP. obviously didn't have the pull to order better weather. looks a little overcast.
  5. awesome! NASP is getting bigger and bigger here in NY. she's doing good. keep up the good work.
  6. looks like time and effort. they look really cool.
  7. we've already established you both have better hunting regardless of what you do than some other areas of the state. if the population is a little out of whack then work to fix it is all i'm asking. one buck rule, ARs, whatever i don't care. trying some of this through educated trial and error would before i'm liberated again saying it's subjective and benefits may or may not be worth it, within the whitetail biologist community they've defined practically any of it to the point there's at least a consensus. DEC's current position of letting voluntary restraint happen for 5 years is fine but only if they push education like heck and give the general public the tools and knowledge to even make a reasonably educated decision. even then i have reservations about the results some think will be had and it still won't be openly apparent to the public which areas could use help. i just talked with another DEC regional biologist again this weekend about data collection and what can be done to help them with it.
  8. i simply feel that if yearling buck harvest is overly high resulting in lower buck numbers in some areas it'd help the hunting opportunity and deer to let a few live to see more than single season as an adult. some areas could just use help more than others. if i had a personal agenda i'd be much better served just hunting in a better area, filling my wall with mounts in peace and quiet. there's no need have such a massive divide in this state with the best hunting available largely to those with resources to lockup and privately manage tracts of land all to themselves. great hunting is supposed to be part an American way of life and tradition, not a rich man's privatized sport.
  9. in our area farm bureau is for antler restrictions because they'd rather see hunters filling freezers with doe versus young bucks that just get replaced year after year. many out this way seem set on not shooting any doe and wanting crazy high deer numbers. from a statewide point of view maybe it makes more sense given their interests? NY Conservation Counsel is does stuff that makes sense then suddenly they go against something like the Poaching legislation that's more important. the bill has been revised twice since so they very well may be for it now. Anyway I consider them very agenda personal interest driven at times.
  10. yup it's an indian pale lager. it was in a pack and all the rest got drank with couple of those being left over.
  11. last night i had Sam Adam's Ella Blanc IPL .....wasn't bad despite i'm not really into the india pale anything much.
  12. That new tag structure/system made things more simple, obviously. lol i buy everything, because at the end of the day i'll still probably have it in the back of my head i'm toting the Super Sportsman license. i'd otherwise do the same thing.
  13. if i heard "unless you call a bird into XX yards you're not a real turkey hunter" from some ego driven turkey thug, i'd hold out my trad bow and say "indians did it. have at it if you think you're a real turkey hunter." haha no reason like that should make it harder than it already is.
  14. i don't think that's what he's saying based on his other posts. i think he's saying a lot of guys will shoot any buck regardless of rack size but wont ever shoot a doe even if the opportunity is there often. in the area i hunt before we started a QDM co-op that was the mindset for the area. still to this day there's hunters who will watch 20 doe in a field and not shoot one despite having access to co-op DMAP tags. before the co-op they'd wait all day with those doe in front of them for a shot at any legal buck that walked out. size didn't matter. it could've been a spike. crazy too as they acknowledge some doe could be taken and not hurt a thing. yet they'll give their tag to someone else to fill, who was willing and hasn't filled their legal limit yet. they seem to be slightly on the older side with the long standing build up the herd mindset. old habits die hard i guess.
  15. looks like a 1.5 yr old little skipper that didn't make it and died later in the season.
  16. the state land is maintain as native grasslands to support bird species, turkey, raptors, owls, etc. ...it even supports a pheasant population. i know because we were hearing roosters non-stop. there's invasive bush honeysuckle, buckthorn, and some others that slowly taking over. anything that isn't mowed. we were removing them so they don't take over and choke out native species that better supports the wildlife there. all volunteered services and equipment so it saved DEC money too.
  17. not yet - trying to set something up but they're all older now or busy with other things. the branch is doing the youth turkey hunt as usual. it'll be a last minute request i get, if anything. daughter is not quite 3 so i've got a long wait there. i don't post deer but i'll post a flop if i do take a kid out.
  18. fact they're pitbulls doesn't mean anything.... i've dog sat a couple of them. they'd play and it'd make someone cling to the ceiling if they didn't know them. you tell them to stop and they do before the words finish coming out of your mouth. then come over tails wagging. it's horrible how irresponsible some pet owners are whether due to dumb ignorance or ill will.
  19. most of the time dogs are running deer with no intent to eat them it's like chasing a car. i'd draw the line at them coming after me, although for liability reasons you'd have to about let them chew on one of your limbs first before you did any harm to them. an argument could be made otherwise.
  20. out and about early Saturday morning and they were out in force. Good luck out your way. Hope she knocks one down.
  21. not sure how but i seem to not get many at all on me. i use compression layers in the fall though. compression heat gear in the spring. throughout warmer months family and i have been using Avon Skin so Soft Xpedition sunscreen/bug spray which also repels ticks. I bought Sawyers Permethrin years ago and have yet to open it. Just doing habitat work removing invasive growth from DEC grasslands and didn't get a single one on me.
  22. seems the past 3 times i've flew with Southwest before they boarded announcements where made that they needed X number of seats. always been 1-3. seems someone always takes the deal as soon as they reach $800 plus stay overnight in a nice hotel with a different flight out the next day. boarding people first and then trying to fix the situation seems half***ed. i almost thought about taking it one time but someone beat me to it. i use Southwest reward points to fly so flights don't really cost me anything. it'd be money in my pocket.
  23. Have a Kubota M9000 90HP loader and have really no issues other than it needs a new cloth seat that's worn out. Adjusted clutch once. Standard maintenance otherwise. Don't know how many hours are on it but its a tractor used on the farm. It's model year 2000. Then have a 85' Kubota B7200 that I use for small stuff at my house like plowing and grading driveway, food plot work, and skidding small logs using ATV trails. Previous owner had tree mess up original hood. 8200 (bigger tractor) hood was only used one I could find. Buzzed of mounting brackets and rewelded parts of them on to make it fit best in could. Only repairs are a pulley bearing on belly mower that goes on it and water pump that blew a leak. Oil changes, belts, filters, and grease beyond that. Same as the big one. 24. I never jumped on the train. thought about it but for lead I always used #5 or 4. For a couple seasons I used federal heavy weight #5 that hit like a tank but didn't pattern as well. Ive used straight up Hevi13 #6 for a while now. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
