Proficiency - How good do you think you are?
SteveB replied to RoadKill44's topic in General Chit Chat
It is the first shot that counts for hunting proficiency - deer don't wait for you to shoot a group. -
Far higher % of hunters that refuse to admit they use a compound instead of a recurve because it is easier.
-
"If the animal is not a cougar, he said, it’s a housecat." One is only at least 5 times larger - I can see how one would be confused.
-
That happened in Ohio - not a crossbow to be found. LOL!!
-
No - I'll repeat:
-
Post the video of her. 1st time at the range and start at 100. Should be easy. After all, the bipod, bench and scope make the shot.
-
2 seasons. ALL bows - recurve, lb, compound and crossbow - in bow season. All guns - modern, muzzle loader and air (big game)in regular. It really is that simple.
-
What is stopping a compound hunter from hunting with a recurve? Other than they want something easier.

Why was fracking banned?
SteveB replied to Mr VJP's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
Exactly. And anyone pointing that out is called a whiner. -
Or a question that shows your easier is supposed to be the bar for all.
-
Good luck with that.
-
Using a compound instead of a traditional bow helps many get a "trophy". So you want traditional only?
-
The local archery shop has sold probably a couple hundred crossbows in the last couple years. 90% went to existing bowhunters. So at least locally, few will be affected by the new regulation.
-
Why does anything need to be "given"?
-
Thats correct.
-
Up until 2 or 3 years ago they could. Now it is a misdemeanor.

I always try a toilet before buying. For some reason I am banned from every HD and Lowes within 50 miles of me.

There are more alleged sightings in NY then in states that have documented, huntable populations. In spite of these "sightings" no one has ever produced/posted a verifiable bit of actual evidence - picture, scat, dna, hair, etc. Seems the NY version has the ability to be invisible on camera, walk floating above ground, and never leave a hint of their physical presence. The only evidence left was by the one killed in Ct by a car that was tracked from out west. One of the dumb ones unlike it's NY relatives.

One of my all time fav's - trisket is best.

A lot of trad hunters and many compound are shooting higher foc setups. 250 gr broadheads out of 50# bows. Getting excellent flight and penetration. FOC (front of center) depends on arrow length in the calculation. It is not figured just by % of broadhead weight of the total arrow weight.
-
It is totally and individual thing. And you can't just pick a weight because bows can vary widely in their efficiency. A good goal is to shoot the most weight that still allows you to totally control your shot. And be of legal hunting weight. I shot 52# and can shoot quickly or hold for several seconds if needed and still make a good controlled shot.

Read the Complaint filed against Bundy

It is either archery equipment or it is not. Age/physical condition of user does not determine equipment classification.

Quote: "I've yet to meet a hunter on the field that didn't want to shoot a coyote, anytime, anywhere it's legal." And yet 99.9% of hunters will only shoot one as a target of opportunity. They do not hit the field ever with coyotes as the primary target. Longer seasons and/or bounties will not change this or increase overall kill in a statistically significant amount.
