  1. Way old - and most came from Toby Bridges AFTER he was fired.
  2. The frontal shot on that one was actually a followup shot to a severely wounded deer. He had been tracking and had bumped it previously. In those circumstances, such a shot is certainly justified.
  3. Yep - either draw it at recurves or all bows. Still say 2 seasons - all bows in bow - all guns in gun.
  4. Kind of like how the compound lessons it vs a recurve. Or hiding in a blind or 20 ft in the air makes it far easier to get away with movement. Or trail cams makes it easier to set up where deer may pass thru - and at the times they may do so. Etc.......... All goes back to some wanting their defined "challenge" to be the bar for all.
  5. Filling the bore with boiling water often works. And use a real lube and throw away the bore butter. I use teflon plumbers tape instead of any lube.
  6. Crossbows are legal in all or part of the bow season in over 35 states. If accident rates have gone up, the stats will be there to support your theory(wild ass guess). Should be easy for you to find and post them if you are right. After all, providing proof of your claims is something you excel at
  7. None of that makes any sense whatsoever. You and other antis refuse to admit the reason for using a compound instead of a recurve is you want/need something easier. Which is perfectly fine. What is not fine is that you want your "easier" to be the cutoff for everyone. This isn't an attack or bullying - it is pointing out the obvious. Muddy it further by saying it becomes archery equipment based on physical abilities or age when a crossbow does not change one bit going from the hands of a 20 year old athlete to a 65 year old disabled hunter. How is it archery equipment for one but not the other? No one is looking for a longer crossbow season - they are looking for full inclusion in the bow season with all other bows. I'm 66, hunt bow season primarily with a recurve, occasionally with a compound when the wind chill drops below 25 or so and carried a crossbow 4 times this year for the 1st time. I support full inclusion. 2 seasons - bow for all bows and gun for all guns. Make it simple.
  8. I don't think he has a recurve either - or ever hunts with it. If he did, he would use it exclusively rather than taking the easier way of the compound and becoming a hypocrite wanting his easier to be the bar for all.
  9. If that was the case, they wouldn't be pushing to have another type of bow fully included. Don't understand the reasoning how physical limitations decide when a crossbow becomes a bow and is allowed. It or either a bow or it is not. If physical limitations means not able to use a bow, why not be allowed to use rifles? Same logic if you don't feel a crossbow is not a bow. Storm - have I asked you why you use a compound and not a recurve (if you use a compound)?
  10. Can only use regular season tags and dmp's though.
  11. If there is so much around, why is the hunting seen as poor? Close some and the rest gets hit harder - how does this help?
  12. Sounds like you are passing most everything under 4.5 - that will change the age structure to have more bucks reach actual maturity. AR does not - the best of the 1.5 and 2.5 are targeted because they have the right number of points. Fact is AR alone without the conscious effort to age and pass deer under 4.5 does not create a real difference of more mature bucks in the herd. It justs lets some of them get a little bigger.
  13. I've taken at least a dozen since joining here - not one posted. Just not what I do. Doubt I took pics of half of them anyway.
  14. Been hearing stories about "den cams" for probably 15 years - dozens if not 100's of versions and all "knew a guy". When asked for even a single photo, not a single one has ever been posted or shared that I have ever seen. Based on the amount of stories about them, the actual pics should be common and not as rare as NYS mountain lion photos.
  15. Few hunt them now in any season open. Most treat them as a target of opportunity. It's proven hunting alone does not have any real effect on numbers - even where they take it serious. Year round season would do nothing to have a real effect in NY
  16. I bought one yesterday - going to start making compound and crossbow strings for a couple local shops as well as the trad ones. I heard it how easy killing with one is so I got up early, set it out on the picnic table and went back to bed. Checked later - no dead deer!! What to heck
  17. Neighbors play a huge part of what is enough. Do they respect boundary lines? How are recovery rights handled?
  18. Great job - congratulations!
  19. Real bow? You mean a recurve or longbow - the equipment the bow season was started for. You must have missed/ignored my previous posts . If you are using a compound to hunt at all, you do it for ONE reason - it is EASIER. Which is fine until you want your easier to be the cutoff. I hunt primarily with a recurve but have stands that using a recurve would be difficult - so I take my compound that I shoot maybe 30 arrows a year with because it is EASIER. I get no enjoyment from shooting the compound - actually don't like it. When full inclusion hits, it will be gone and I will use a basic crossBOW for when I want easy.
