  1. Got 4 robo calls from same # ID today (12/8) stating my SS# had been hacked and illegally used. 2nd -> 4th time I hung on and talked to an agent wondering what they offered for resolution to this issue. What they want is your name & SS# first of all, which I wouldn't give them. Told agent if this was really a legitimate issue, send me something in the mail. Clearly, they wouldn't do that!! Last time I asked to speak to a supervisor and was rudely told I was dealing with that agent only. Lot of phone scams, but this a unique one to me and pretty ingenious. Easy to fall for! They were persistent with 4 calls within an hour!
  2. Sorry, but not technically considered a ML by NYS DEC. Called a crossbow, but the confusion is that it does require a ML license!
  3. ^^^ before you ventilated him?
  4. Sorry MOOG, gotta side with the wifey on this one! To each their own, so go for it!
  5. After doing some strictly "out of curiosity" searches, found out Maine is only state that allows trapping of bears as part of the state's hunting regulations. Only snare or cable types of traps are allowed. Limit is one bear/yr trapped. Did find some conflicting info about whether a non-resident needed a guide and what type of spring loaded cable snares were legal. IDK. Here's an interesting Maine bear trapping YouTube video. Lot of BS'ing making video ~26min, but you can FFW to see the set and a snared bear.
  6. Where I hunt I want the buck to doe ratio to be 10:1. In the freezer, 0:2. Ideally per whitetail biologist in the 2-3:1 ratio. Not something a typical hunter can control in the wild, other than filling all available DMPs and only shooting 1 buck/yr. ^^^^ and if you had trail cams out during the summer & into October it'd be just the opposite.. maybe! Not saying the boys aren't always in your area, just not visible during daylight hours like they are during the rut.
  7. Looks like exact same bill that was introduced last year that went nowhere. NYS legislators simply will not get involved in this legislation. Gets put in a closet (sub-committee) and hopefully forgotten about. KISS - remove all line items in this bill except "Authorize DEC to adopt regulations...using a Xbow..." At least to me this is a no-brainer!
  8. ... and here I thought bear traps were a long lost memory from the mountain man era!??! Interesting, have to do some Googling on bear trapping.
  9. As an outside observer - don't soybeans help bucks more (deer in general) during antler growth than corn that ripens when racks are already fully developed? They also eat the bean plants & not just the beans themselves, unlike corn. JMO, both feed and draw deer, just depends on when you want to see them in you food plot. Deer go crazy for corn, but IRC it's the worst for nutrient value and like others have said it also depletes the soil more than other plot crops would.
  10. Yeah, don't get confused with a Xbow mfger's axle-axle width and the NYS overall width of limb-limb. My 10pt Turbo falls below min width if only looking at mfger's A-A spec. With a tape measure, it adheres to NYS' min limb-limb width by adding 1.5" to A-A width. Dumb-a$$ regulation!!!! Fer sure, the cost of Xbows and compound bows is crazy. I spent more on my 10Pt Xbow than I did for a Savage rifle x2.
  11. ^^^ This is not a DIY project & finding a machine shop to do it for $10 would be almost impossible. Also you'll probably create more headaches than if you spent the $20-30 for a new breech plug sized the way you want it to be. Ever look down the flash hole in your breech plug with background light illuminating that small bore? It clearly is not a mere drilled port hole!
  12. This is why I went with the BO camo. At least it has some blackened areas in the fabric that break-up your outline even if the deer really can NOT see the red/orange hues. I justify BO camo thinking it breaks up my outline or profile, esp if you don't has as good a s/u as in the above photo. Other times I'll wear a BO vest & hat to/from the stand and remove when I'm up in the tree. Who knows...?
  13. I've cut up a lot of deer in the past, but never came across this cut of venison. Esp with the pre-installed pop-up timer! Where do you hunt this type of deer?
  14. ^^^^^ and it wouldn't be a secret either. Seems like the word would get around & everyone one within 50mi would be after him!??!
  15. Some sabots are a beast to get started down the bore in certain ML models, so a good starter ram rod is a must. The wooden ones suck & will break, get a T-handle bullet starter! Also get some reloader tubes. They hold powder, sabot and a place for a primer in a water resistant tube. FYI - With the ML loaded, you'll only need to carry 2-3 reloader tubes, enough for an all day hunt. You may want to carry a couple xtra primers in a Ziplock bag. Placing primers in the breech plug can be difficult with cold hands & I've dropped more than a few into the snow over the years. BTW - There are concave shaped jags for loading the sabots with the short & long ram rods so the ends don't deform the tip of the sabot possibly effecting accuracy. Some of these loading jags are specific to certain sabots. IRC, most ML ram rods still have a flat ended jags from the round ball era. This is the nice thing about in-line MLs, things carried can be kept to a minimum. I still recall carrying a bag of all kinds of doodads when hunting with my TC Renegade. Sure you know this, but here goes anyways. Ml'ers are basically a single shot rifle. So make that one shot count, probably will rarely get a 2nd shot at the same dumb-a$$ deer!! And then there's the smoke cloud and wondering if the deer lies there or how good a hit it was or if you hit it at all or where the deer went or WTH...
  16. Round fenced-in areas can get confusing, unless you grew-up in a round playpen....
  17. Sorry, just not ready to dive in the deep end, yet! Just too many decades as a heart-broken fan before the Kelly glory days. Optimistically, they should make the playoffs as a WC. Hoping they make it past the 1st round, but lets be realistic & enjoy the ride as far as it takes us. Oh yeah, fun to watch Singletary, Beasley and the defense carry the T-day game. Mentioned before that it makes the hair on my neck stand up when Allen does his open field scrambles. Too many DBs thirsty for blood. Rather see him throw the ball away, lose a down than to lose 1/2 a season or more with an injury. Just think how good they'll be next year? Opps wrong thread, not about passing a so-so buck!??! Do need to add a younger version of Gore and a Gronk-esque receiver. Then I might consider the shallow end of the pool!
  18. Yeah, season to your taste, but nothing makes it more palatable. Get a spoonful, pinch your nose and take your medicine... Hopefully you won't have to go thru this for another few years!!
  19. After throwing in your unused buck tag to simmer, also add a couple unused DMPs. Adds a completely different flavor to eating crow tag soup!
  20. Gotcha! Had thought it might have been a $/# reference..?
  21. I don't have one, so no review! What I do look for in these "latest 'n' greatest" cookers is how easy are they to clean-up after using. I still have a large George Foreman grill & a rotisserie chicken cooker stashed in my cupboards I never use. They work excellent, but a huge PITA to clean-up! How are these air fryers to clean-up?
  22. Cautiously enthusiastic...! The Ravens game should be a reality check for the Bills. First team they've played in ~2 months that has a winning record.... Fun to watch Allen scrambling, but that's a disaster waiting to happen. Sorry Bills fans, I'm just not ready to go "all-in" as a fan again. Too many memorable heart-breakers over the years.
  23. If you like their products, then cost is probably no object! Costanza's does have a wider variety of products, flavorings and it's still at least 50% (your) venison. I'm simply confused about your math for the #3 item compared to that of a grocery store with a decent meat dept. IDK, whatz divided by 12...? By no means am I criticizing Costanza's products, just a little too $$ for my meat budget. If you like it, get it!!!
  24. I live ~10mi from Costanza's and have never taken venison there to be processed. Un-American you say!??! Just too $$/# for me to justify. To their credit I have been gifted items from Costanza's. Meat sticks and salamis were phenomenal, but I'd rather have a Zweigle's hotdog than another one from there regardless of it's flavoring! Maybe Nomad can clear this up, but IRC doesn't Costanza's have strange &/or changing drop off dates? I've heard he closes venison being dropped off if he's super busy & other times he's only accepted orders post deer season. Seems like something I'd want to know before making a road trip with a load of venison.
