FYI - There was a mass shooting at a Texas church in 2017 when 26 people were killed and 20 others injured, Sutherland Springs' First Baptist Church. Since then the Texas Gov has seen to it that a law was passed to allow handguns to be carried in churches and IRC by designated church security parishioners. The (security) man that fired the single fatal shot was a gun range owner and what might be considered an expert hand-gunner.

I saw about a 1" variation in (30yrd) zeroing from FPs to NAP Spitfires. Of course, might vary with different Xbow specs.
-
Only adjustment on Xbows for arrow/BH wgt or type is in the scope. Just need to readjust zero at whatever yardage the scope &/or Xbow mfger suggests. JMO, not a lot different than adjusting sight/pins for arrow or BH variation on a compound bow.

OH yeah, the old under-dog goes all the way fairy tale!

Glad to see you have an interest in hunting in NY! No offense, but seems anti-climatic to want to hunt bear in NYS after KS bucks and CO elk??? Like above member mentioned, most bears in NYS are harvested by deer hunters when the opportunity arises that a bear happens to walk by! Nothing like any of the TV shows about bear hunting in Canada or some other western states. Have you looked at our NYS DEC bear hunting regulations & season dates?
-
Oh yeah, I also think this year's conference playoff games will be even better than the over-hyped SB. Jackson vs Mahomes and Rodgers vs Brees, get any better than that!!?!!
-
Just for the record - Criticize Josh Allen all you like, but just look at how his other 2018 QB draft classmates have done so far! Okay, so Lamar Jackson is the exception no one saw coming! Would you rather had the Bills draft Rosen, Darnold or, Mayfield if they had the opportunity? JMO, he's a work-in-progress player, still.
-
Ha, ha - me too! More time in the stand would help my odds immensely next year. Have to see how this plays out next Oct/Nov with the ole bod.
-
Okay, just so we're clear the Bills knew Allen had been criticized for accuracy issues even before the draft. But their offensive line isn't helping the poor kid very much. Next year hoping the Bills re-enforce that OL and possibly Allen would have time to make better passes!??! JMO, hate seeing him have to scramble &/or sacked so much. I don't think the Bills or their mafia fan-base have any thing to be ashamed of with this year's showing!

Handling Wet Heavy Snow with Snowblower
nyslowhand replied to fasteddie's topic in General Chit Chat
Sorry fasteddie, depressing topic! Rather talk about the wet grass clogging the lawn mower discharge chute. -
FYI - Hodgdons produces a 777 magnum pellet that's ~60g. Should be able to mix/match with other 777 pellets, if you're still into the ease of using pellets vs powder. For what it's worth: "Triple Se7en® Magnum Pellets - Two 60-grain pellets pushing a 250 gr. bullet can deliver the energy of a 30-06 with a 200 gr. bullet at the muzzle. The result: flatter-shooting, harder-hitting projectiles. .50 cal. 60-grain pellets(For use in modern in-line muzzleloaders with 209 ignition using 2 T-7 magnum pellets). "

Fer sure, the snow does get a little more tolerable once you retire. Nothing like looking out the window and seeing the snow and thinking - "F-it" I'm not going out today. Or not feeling the need to snowblow the driveway at 7-8AM, maybe latter when sun warms up the temps somewhat! I do still have nightmares of white-knucle commutes with zero visibility & not really knowing where the road was, just trying to get to/from work!
-
^^^ maybe, but OP never mentioned if it was a horizontal or elevated Xbow shot.
-
JMO, not just for Xbows, but any weapon or projectile hitting this long, non-lethal region below the spine & above any vitals.
-
Tried using the inflatable, vinyl one I used primarily for turkey hunting, but it was uncomfortable in the stand. Then I got the brain-storm to buy a super thick (~3") one and that was even more uncomfortable. Below is one I've used for years and it works great in ladder stands.

Testing da Bill's mafia's sense of humor via Bleacher Report: "The Bills get to visit the Patriots and say, "Hey, now we're a playoff team just like you!" And the Patriots will smile patiently and give them a cookie before trouncing them."
-
But realistically, do you think Bills will beat Steelers and Pats? Just beating the Pats would be a season's high point for the Bills. Finger's crossed, they should win against the Jets. Giving them a 10-6 season, which for a rebuilding team is respectable. Then I'll drink some more Bill's Kool-Aid and look forward to next year.

FYI - Wetlands don't necessarily need to be swamps or a boggy terrain. Poor drainage, clay soil help, etc form poor drainage & keep water at the surface level. So it can form a wetland-ish terrain.

typical or non-typical whitetail which one you like better ?
nyslowhand replied to Hunter007's topic in General Chit Chat
JMO, there's nothing more satisfying than getting a wily, old 6-8yo buck with a declining rack, maybe a good 6pt! Then you've done something, but not necessarily brag-worthy! An accomplishment none the less! -
Making improvements vs simply maintaining or cutting small-ish paths (4-6' wide) is a tricky legality on designated wetlands. The law is pretty vague, open to interpretation and I'll bet you would get differing opinions about what can/can't be done by ECO's. Not to mention there are local town &/or county restrictions regarding wetlands. As you noted, applying chemicals, whether pesticides, herbicides or even fertilizers is a NO-NO on wetlands! JMO having owned designated wetland property - minimal path cutting & maintenance under the radar, dude. I also tried over-seeding and it just never established itself w/o all the basic de-vegetation regime of a food plot. What I did with my wetland paths was to mow them in early June after the initial spring growth spurt. Some areas needed a touch-up mowing later in August, while most were not that bad as far as tall grass/weed growth come bow season. Had several trail cams on these mowed paths and never saw the deer eating the fresh cut grasses/weeds like I'd initially thought they would enjoy. For what it's worth...!

^^^ definitely, but the "catch-22" of streaming is you still need an internet connection/provider. At least for me, Spectrum's mid-range & stand-alone internet is ~$70/mo. Then you add some basic streaming service for ~$25->$40/mo. Granted you've cut your TV cable providers cost in 1/2, but it's not quite as budget friendly as you might have 1st envisioned it would be!!! TV service provider's cost is my #2 pet-peeve right after the cost of cell phone service plans!

Bet there are some stories to be told by those old buckets, brush blinds, homemade stands, etc.
-
Yeah, after the snow melts off and the ground begins to thaw the travel routes are very evident in the muddy ground. Of course, these paths are winter feeding travel routes, so you need to be aware of that! Sometimes they are everyday travel routes or may just be seasonal routes...!?! Does give a good indication of deer being around though!!!

Scam robo call from Social Security...
nyslowhand replied to nyslowhand's topic in General Chit Chat
Just thought I'd info any one that was collecting SS and got a call stating your account & payments would be cancelled unless they helped you resolve the issue. Could see where an eldery person might fall for this scam. Yeah, I typically don't answer any 800 or #s I do not recognize. If I do answer, I give the usual 3X "HELLOs" before ending the call when I get no response. Let's just say by the time I got the 4th call within an hour... I wasn't overly polite and the agent even pushed back somewhat!
