Pull Behing Utility Trailer
nyslowhand replied to buffalojim's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
For one of those plastic tub trailers, you just have to get inventive about strapping down the ladder stands and it'll work fine. A tub type trailer would also be much easier to maneuver around by hand if you happen to get into a tight spot with ATV & trailer. Wouldn't think a flat bed trailer would be as easy!?! -
Saw photos of that Mustang before the auction, was in pretty rough shape. Not what I'd expected, at all!!! So .. the John Wick crashed Mustang must be worth over $1M..?
-
Always felt this was simply a "knee-jerk" reaction by NYS DEC to the CWD issue and not justified or restricted as being cloaked under a "negative benefits" veil.
-
If this has to be done, it was done the correct way in Idaho! From specific areas to cull the herd to donating the meat and assuming appeasing the farmers/ranchers.
-
... and when was last time a 9-7 team made the conference championship round?
-
Finally got around to retrieving the cushions & pads from my ladder stands today. Oh yeah, gorgeous day, but super boggy where I was.

True TOPO maps have elevation lines on them. When lines are far apart, the elevation is fairly constant &/or flat. When the elevation lines start getting closer together, this marks semi-rapid changes in (up/down) elevation. IE; ridges, ravines, creeks, etc. Much easier to interpret TOPO maps while in the area of the map and get a 1st hand look at what TOPO maps are depicting. Not aware of any, but would be nice if HD aerial maps would have elevation lines also.

^^^ Ouch, that was harsh!!!

Learn from our mistakes, huh!??! I've s/u ladder stands in what I thought were ideal travel route intersections .... and then the leaves fell off the trees. Yeah, ideally I also try to choose a tree whose width is as wide as my shoulders when I'm up 15-18'. A big tree where you want it to be is almost an impossible combo, at times!!

The decoy needs to be very visible, from a distance. I used a decoy for years in a thicker area with small woodlots and the decoy was only visible from a max of ~80yrds. Never had any luck using it! Assuming if all the members successfully using a decoy were to elaborate on the decoys location, most would be in or on the edge of open areas. Y-N? Hell with carrying a decoy in every hunt if it's private property. Just don't spray any scents or attractants directly onto the decoy and you'll be able to stash it concealed under/near your stand w/o any issue. I used a piece of camo material with sticks on top to cover-up my decoy when not in use. But the idea of using old Christmas tree limbs is pretty unique!

^^^^ yeah, terrain and also background cover as well, if that's what you're referring to.

Interesting idea and great fab job! Out of curiosity, think the under carriage configuration on your Kodiak made radiator susceptible to mud clogging? I had an ATV from a different mfger, used it for ~12yrs in a wetlands environment, had super aggressive mud tires and never once had issue you had. Does it have something to do with design of fender wall or under carriage that causes this issue?
-
Lot of confusion over the height of ladder stands comes from the mfger's spec'ed height. Some are to platform, while many are to the shooting rail. Wish they'd all get their $hit together and advertise height to the platform, only! Lot of different terrain, vegetation, sight of view and personal preferences regarding stand height. If you prefer sitting on a bucket or up ~25' & are successful - No one should criticize your choices!

Yeah, Shockey fell into the $$ trap. Not just him, look at most of the other hunting show hosts and how they've evolved into product sponsor hos.

Will a Ravens vs Chiefs match-up be the game of the year?

Yes, check with local assessor's office before buying/installing anything. Be warned, you may be raising a red flag by simply asking questions. They may keep an eye on what you're doing & how. When I bought my property, I had a gravel driveway installed and at the end the contractor put in a gravel "bed" so I could drop a shed on there. Purchased a 12x24' shed with reinforced floor joists (size & C-C) with upgraded 3/4" flooring. After ~11 years shed never bowed, twisted or settled. Shed was bare-bones inside since I never intended to spend overnights there. Granted this could be a DIY project, but at the time I wanted it "now" and not after 6-8 long weekends of labor and arranging helping hands. When I sold that property, new owner insulated interior of shed, put up cheapo paneling, installed gutters & a catch barrel for a water supply, added propane grill/stovetop and refrig and even put in 2x sets of bunk beds. Owner even built an outhouse that had a chemical toilet inside. Not the Marriott, but a decent, rustic camp s/u! Pretty sure they got away with all the above w/o any added tax burden. That is until they decided to run an electric service to the shed. Assessment & taxes went up!! Neat thing about going this way is if you ever decide to build a home on the site, the shed can be taken back to original configuration strictly for storage purposes or as a ~1.5 car garage. Good luck & keep us informed as to what route you take!!

Yeah, most will have a ratcheting noise, but on a smaller Db than a boat winch. Know certain Mfgers are working to reduce this noise level.
-
Clearly you still have "a dog in the race" so, your interest is understandable! Crystal ball prediction; Bills won't be playing the Chiefs until much later this year.
-
Sure you can't get job done with a small contractor with a Bobcat & dump truck? In general, dozer work = $$.
-
If you're betting for the Bills, who are +3 over the Texans, a stat from Bleacher report: "In the last two years, teams favored in the opening round of the NFL playoffs have gone just 3-5 straight-up and 0-8 against the spread, and the only fave to walk away with a win in last January's wild-card slate was a Dallas Cowboys squad that beat the Seattle Seahawks by just two points."

Hell yeah.. if you're just getting into bow/Xbow hunting take the free one offered. It will at least give you an idea of Xbow hunting w/o a big investment. If you like that style of hunting, can then upgrade down the road. If you dislike archery/Xbow hunting, little $$ lost. Win - Win!!
-
FYI - I use a Badlands fanny pack & it's literally indestructible.

Yes, as of now Yes, Yes & No! Correct Yes Antlerless & either sex, DMPs Yes A good brand, depends on your budget! Just be warned the ones in the sub ~$4-500 range have crappy scopes. Meaning you'll probably end-up buying a $100+ upgraded scope putting your total purchase $ into a different price point. There's no correlation to price vs effectiveness between the $400 Xbow and the $1500 models. Topics where no questions were asked: The way the NYS DEC Xbow hunting regs are stated as of now, there are some min/max requirements regarding Xbows width, draw #, etc. See - https://www.dec.ny.gov/outdoor/68802.html If I were new to bow/Xbow hunting, I'd sign-up for the bow hunters safety course. Any type of bow hunting is very different than long gun hunting and requires a different hunting skill set. Do NOT believe or fall for all the hype & crap on the web about shooting deer at 100yrds with a Xbow!!! Any hunter getting into bow &/or Xbow hunting for the 1st time is in for a whole new vocabulary and equipment/accessory choices. Oh yeah, a Xbow is a PITA to carry around and shoot free-handed. You could definitely reduce the learning curve if you got a friend or mentor that had bow/Xbow hunted for a while to tag along with. Do NOT trust the advice given by sales clerks in the big-box outdoor/sporting goods stores!!

Now that's just asking for trouble! Haven't those people seen all the deer crossing signs with bullet holes in them?
-
Like most others have mentioned, it's mainly up to the local zoning and assessments as to what constitutes improvements.Once you have water, elec or sewer services - expect noticeable tax increases. Depending on where you live, a shed has a specific max size before it is considered an improvement as an out-building. Some localities may even view upgrades to access roads as taxable improvements...!?! Laugh at them, but the ole boys that put buses or travel trailers on hunting properties were getting around these taxation issues. An old camper with propane appliances, a generator and some means to have water &/or waste disposal available can make a great temp camp. If you're in the "go whole hog" philosophy, you may even get some tax breaks if the hunting camp meets certain qualifications as a rec or 2nd home. People with boats used to do it all the time! At least this used to be the case, so check into it!
