  1. Just started using Google Photo, so I'm not well versed in it's techniques just yet. When I was using Photobucket there were ~4X options to copy (hyperlink) videos or photos and one was with it showing the actual video. Each web hosting site is a little different, so might just have to play with your favorite one some! I'm not being much help, maybe other members with more experience with this technique will chime in!
  2. ^^^^ or Photobucket, Google Photo or any other website that allows (free!) uploading of videos. Then you create a hyperlink to that site's place where your videos are stored. Slightly different method capturing the link per what specific website you use. Only way I know of to upload videos to this forum! BTW - Some members have found ways to show this hyperlinked video as an actual view-able video, but I'm inept & mainly stuck with showing the hyperlink's address.
  3. Great for the Bills in a season that was supposed to be a rebuilding year! I've learnt from 50yrs of disappointments not to get overly optimistic about their chances, they'll break your heart. Not to rain on anyone's parade, but their playoff prospects look like a one and out scenario. Maybe they can beat another wild card team, but after that... Let the rebuilding continue in 2018.
  4. Any DEC (hunting) violation, depending on severity, comes with the possibility of losing weapon, harvested game, even vehicle, potential loss of hunting privileges, your attorney fees and the fine & court fee. These cases are primarily heard in town courts and those judges are reliant on the ECO's interpretation of your violation and possible penalties. As a defendant you hardly stand a chance w/o an attorney! Just saying, have no 1st hand experience, other than what I've read about similar cases. Lets hope in 2018 when Xbow legislation is re-introduced, the NYS elected officials don't show that they have no clue about Xbows, again!!!
  5. Not sure if it is state-wide, but in Wayne County the assessment was less for the portion of land that was designated as wetlands that I had owned.
  6. They know where the safe zones are, backyards. Not so much taunting you, just how/where to survive the orange army! Sort of annoying anyways...!?!
  7. Be warned - Santa has been around for awhile and if his blatter is anything like mine, you may get trail cam photos/vids of him doing something the kids might not like... Just one more thing you'd have to explain justifying &/or keeping the Santa myth alive.
  8. Obvious answer to the OP's question is for NYS to increase taxes to be able to purchase land for ALL of NY'ers to enjoy in numerous ways. We all know that would create a revolt! BTW - Just because NY requires a paid license to hunt, doesn't meant they are responsible for providing you unlimited hunting/fishing opportunities on state land. These funds collected for sporting licenses is "in theory" meant to fund the DEC's activities. Not to turn this into a political thread, but some of the DEC annual funds that could potentially be used for buying land for NY'ers to access is transferred into the state's dreaded general fund. Don't like your current hunting /fishing opportunities, contact your state, elected officials and complain or better yet offer feasible solutions. JMO, but offering tax breaks to land owners to open up their property to the masses isn't a viable or realistic solution. In fact it's a pretty cringe-worthy thought!!!
  9. JMO, but black-n-blue shoulders shouldn't be part of the initiation into long guns for youngsters.
  10. Good idea, but betting these free MS Office copies aren't handed out freely, one per student. Maybe not?? Not sure of the activation process for a non-student registering a strictly student copy.... Done deal for $11, don't have to be looking over my shoulder for the MS copyright police either. LOL
  11. JMO, I wouldn't want to be forcing a drill bit down the small flame port on a nipple or breech plug like you were drilling a hole. I'd prefer to get a new, correct sized drill bit and use the unmachined, round end of the bit to force out the grit/crap with something holding the bit like a tap handle instead of an actual drill or screw gun. Or just get a nipple pick. I was lucky enough to have access to gage pins, so finding the correct sized pin for either was not an issue.
  12. Or you could go to the other extreme, as I witnessed recently. Over the summer I visited a Dick's Sporting Goods store and saw a sales clerk talking an oblivious father into buying a Rem 870 3"mag for his son's 14th birthday, so he could hunt the youth weekend for deer. Thinking to myself... poor kid will hate his father for this!??! Okay, so down the road he'll thank his dad, but as a 14yo - no so much!
  13. ^^^ pretty sure you can thank Google maps for this one. Months ago I was shopping around for a better rate on a combined auto/home insurance policy. One agency told me I needed to repair my front steps and roof before they could give me the best rate...!?! They did admit to Google mapping my house and never had an agent onsite inspecting it! Also suspect a lot of town's base their tax assessment on these Googled map views of your property.....!?! BTW - Just upgraded to a new PC with Win10 and it automatically logged me into the MS website network when I turned my PC on... Had to manually reset this option to being logging on locally only!! Just a thought. Not a big fan of conspiracy theories, but these are definitely Big Brother watching and following your every move.
  14. Still not sure if OP is talking about an in-line or percussion ML. Both have available hotter caps and primers that are better at keeping debris from building up in the flash port. Sure you also know this, but it is widely suggested to shoot a cap or primer after cleaning to burn off any cleaning residue. W/O a powder loadi!!!!
  15. Had an old copy of MS Office 2000 I was desperately hanging on to, until I recently purchased a new PC with Win10. It was in no way compatible with this version of Win and not supported by MS anymore. Anyways, couple weeks ago happened to see a web retailer selling the Home & Student 2016 version for ~$25. Yesterday when I went back to see if it was still available, no luck. BUT, did see MS Office Pro 2016 for $11.11 on ebay, new & with a legit activation code. So, if you've been looking for a gift for a middle or high school child... Sellers supplies link to download, the legit code, both within 1 day via email and guaranteed code would work or $$ back. I did buy it, downloaded, installed and activated w/o any problems! Hell, for $11 can't go wrong even with all the extra programs you might never use!
  16. Cleaning those ML breech plugs is pretty straight forward, soak & scrub. Getting all the gunk out of the small port hole is what I'm guessing you're asking about. After soaking plug in your favorite BP dissolving solution, any combination of (IRC?) a ~0.019" pin, a pipe cleaner & canned or compressed air will help clean out that spark passage. Same cleaning process for a percussion cap nipple. Believe at one time I'd bought a cleaning pin that clears out that spark passage. Compressed air helps!
  17. Deceiving on the map... any guesstimate as to the physical size of the woodlot, where you'll be hunting. Looks to be 2x as long as it is wide, so 25ac = ~750' x ~1500'. That ain't big, considering it's bordered on 3 sides by neighbor's woodlots. ROWs are all different, but they do raise a red flag for me, esp it being ~750' off the road. Written ROW maintenance agreement or not, if owner of ROW won't share expense you think maintaining access needs, you're SOL. Property is landlocked, right!?! JMO! Just me, but I'd get permission as a potential buyer & walk the property line now that leaves are off. May reveal some hidden concerns on adjacent properties. IE; tree stands, ATV tracks, foot traffic paths, litter, no deer signs, etc. Sorry, didn't mean to rain on your parade... LOL
  18. Mostly agree, but JMO the objections are reversed, #1 being primarily the threat of CWD. DEC's 2nd objection is the feeding of deer during the winter months when they are basically on a starvation or minimal feeding diet. Theory, as was explained, was you can actually kill them by infrequent feeding during that minimal feeding timeframe unless you feed them routinely ALL winter. Weird as it sounds, maybe... I'm no whitetail biologist, so just have to assume the DEC knows what they are talking about, hopefully!
  19. It's all about personal preference and your mood during the creation. If there were only one very best or everyone's favorite chili recipe, there wouldn't be those infamous chili cook-offs, right? Mostly about the eye appeal factor and your taste buds, probably no "wrong" recipe for chili. After 2-3 trial 'n' error attempts, you'll have your own personal favorite. Only tip I have is start small and add more ingredients ( and spices!) as you prefer until crockpot is nearing the top. As much as you'd like to, do NOT initially fill your crockpot to the brim. It'll expand and boil over, making a mess! Some of the above recipes would fill my crockpot twice over and mine is considered an average to large size! Oh yeah, crockpot is a generic term, but all differ in size and cooking times. When I start my chili, if all ingredients are at room temp it only has to cook ~6hrs on low. Sometimes I start on high for 1-2hrs and then down to low the remainder. For the 1st attempt I wouldn't suggest throwing it together, going to work and expecting to eat it some 8-10hrs later like you would with some other meals done in a crockpot. Experiment & enjoy!
  20. Pretty sure the intent of this legislation is being lost in its' enforcement. Lot of grey area and ECO's interpretation of intent are creating all the confusion when citations are issued. The terms baiting, feeding and attracting are defined by the individual and can be debated for an eternity. Sadly the DEC and their ECOs have a different perspective also. BTW - I'm not for or against the baiting regulations, but have to assume the original intent of the legislation had at least some merit.... hopefully!?!
  21. Beagle puppies are the cutest, until they get a little older and bark at everything outside the house or in the yard. Not so adorable then... been there, done that! Last dog I got, thought a long time about a good and appropriate name to fit her personality. Mostly I just call her Goofy instead of her given name. Assuming he has a pedigree and a foot long name would be appropriate. Going to be a sub-13" adult boy, huh? Maybe Cooper, as in mini-Cooper...? Good luck with your new child!
  22. ^^^ Exactly! This was a "knee-jerk" legislation passed after at least one deer in (IRC) Oneida County was found to be CWD positive. It was determined to be an escaped deer from a high fence deer farm in that area where the deer were obviously fed piles of corn/grain and eating from & in direct contact with other deer. Cause for the DEC's alarm was at about the same time I beleive Wisconsin had a huge outbreak of CWD and all the environmentalist were waving their arms claiming it was the end of the world. NYSDEC thought we were heading down that same path with this isolated incident. Strangely, you can feed (bait?) deer in Sullivan County after some residents were feeding deer during the winter months strictly for their love of observing wildlife and ended up in court. DEC ticketed the residents, took them to court and the court struck down the NYS wide no-feeding ban for Sullivan County. IRC, this still stands... Surprisingly this wasn't ever tested in other NY counties, as far as I know. Like fasteddie mentioned... Put a stand in an apple tree, shot as many deer as you have tags for and it's all legal per the no-baiting regulations. BUT... if one of those apples ends up close to your stand that's 25yrds downhill from that tree, off to jail you go! Or.. time your corn plot to ripen during bow season and you can hunt it legally. BUT.. throw a bag of corn down before bow hunting, off to jail you go again! You be the judge!!! Whether you're pro or con regarding this debate, betting you have stands along or stalk near travel routes to/from food sources?
  23. Wait until spring to buy a new Xbow. New hunting equipment premiers at the Shot Show (??) in Feb and previous year's models typically go on sale in Mar-May timeframe. Just to satisfy my curiosity .... Those of you that have purchased an entry level or budget Xbow AND then had to upgrade the scope - What was your total expenditure? After doing this, doesn't the difference ($$) between that and the purchase of a better Xbow not seem so overwhelming, budget-wise? One of the scenarios I looked at when I was buying a Xbow. JMO, but I think the technology for Xbows has sort of max'ed out right now. Clearly, Belo was instigating the Xbow debate with the air-Xbow photo. Current trend seems to be maintaining same performance (fps/Ke) while reducing draw weight. Improvements in cam and limb material & design seem to be the highlight of newer Xbows. As a hunter & a consumer, at some point you have to ask yourself is the upgrade from ~340 to 400+fps worth the additional $$ or will it be a more efficient Xbow for killing deer within 40yrds with a single shot...!??! It is NOT exponential, meaning a $1500 Xbow does NOT give 3X better performance than a $500 model. IMHO, you'd see a jump in Xbow quality in the ~$8-900 range as opposed to the sub-$500 models. Deja-vu, sounds like advice for buying/upgrading a compound bow.... Right back atcha, Belo. lol Everyone has different criteria or expectations from hunting with or purchasing a Xbow, so "to each, their own"!
  24. Entry level Xbows are okay, it's merely the scope that is questionable in the Mfger's cost saving that generally ruins the 1st time buyer's experience. If all you expect out of a 1st time Xbow is to get your feet wet with the experience, they're fine. But you do have to go into the experience with some reservations about your expectations of the Xbow. Like the OP, I wanted a Xbow I wouldn't possibly regret buying and be happy using for 6-8yrs. Went with a Ten Point (Turbo) and it's been a great Xbow. With the Alum arrows I use, think I'm in the ~325fps range with just over 100Ke. Once sighted-in per mfger's instructions, it was right on from 20->50yrds. Never needed to add any Kentucky windage or +/- variables to sight X-hairs/dots at yardages +/- the 30yrd zeroing. Think the OP'er may have mistakenly referenced 40yrds as a minimum distance, meaning max....? Have shot deer at 40yrds with mine and would never attempt anything beyond that. Once you shot a Xbow out to 50yrds+ and watch the arrow arc thru the air, taking what seems like an eternity to hit the target... you'll see what I mean. JMO, If you hunt from a treestand w/o a gun rail, you may want a short adjustable shooting stick to be able to keep Xbow shouldered for any length of time. Xbow's are super unbalance with most of weight forward of the fore-end hand grip point.
