  1. I'm a sucker for the underdog, so I'd really like to see the Browns rise above the disaster they've put themselves in the past decade or more. Just can't foresee Mayfield being their savoir!
  2. I use Tracfone's "pay as you go" plan for calls, text and data for around $125/yr. More than enough air time and this year I even carried over so much I only had to buy ~$45/365days service refill. They do have other refill cards having more minutes/data, but getting closer to the $200/yr range. Way more than I need for the few calls/texts I actually use. Tracfone is trying, unsuccessfully, to do away with "pay as you go" refill plans and offering small monthly service plans. There's just too many refill cell phones out there and the current demand is high for new ones, for obvious reasons. They just can't seem to cut the cord on those plans. They also have a BYOP option. May need a new/replacement SIM for some minimal charge. I'd bought a 2-3yo (new) Samsung Galaxy S5 for ~$150 that was tied to Verizon towers, but no specific carrier's plan (unlocked). Okay, I'd still be carrying a flip phone if it weren't for the great cameras on the newer smart phones. The rest of the bells & whistles I could do w/o!
  3. Problem I see (yes, fasteddie I'm an armchair QB), Buffalo Bills don't have a very good QB mentoring support system for developing Allen. Maybe the Bills should hire Brett Farve as QB coach... Also pretty dismal to think Petersen will be the starter in 2018. Don't quote me if he rises to the challenge.. lol
  4. Depending on where you live, want the shed built/placed, size and esp your budget - here's a Finger Lakes regional option for ready-made sheds. https://www.woodtex.com/locations/ny/himrod/
  5. Lots of really great potential draft picks at many different positions! Unfortunately this year's mediocre crop of QBs is getting all the attention. Be interesting to see how each team plays the "draft game". Most interesting sports article on the draft I've seen this year was on Bleacher Report this morning. Sort of an open letter to the Browns suggesting they don't fall into the disastrous draft pick strategies they have repeatedly in the past. Don't over-think the choices, basically. Interesting & humorous article with a lot of blatant sarcasm!
  6. If you want horn, do it! If meat in the freezer is important, good for you! If both hunting strategies are equally important, keep doing what you like to do! I'd never criticize any hunter for what's important or their expectations of their deer season! Why is this even being discussed...!!?!! A trolling topic....
  7. Ditto, G-Man. Longest shots I have where I hunt are ~120yrds, max! May have a different attitude if I had access to large crop fields & longer shots...!?! It irks me when I watch the TV shows depicting hunting sheep, etc in the mountains and hunters taking 600yrd shots. Can appreciate the skill required, just not for me. I'm more of an up close & personal type of hunter, but if being a sniper is your passion - go for it!
  8. I've had great experiences with PayPal over past 12+/- years with 100s of purchases and sales, 99% of the time. With that being said, in the end the seller is the weak link and can often turnout to be ... unscrupulous! Had a situation a couple years ago when I was being charged for several purchases in LA area with CC I'd used to buy an older model cell phone from eBay/PayPal. Seller was based in LA, so assuming either he/she or one of their employees got my CC #. Local Credit Union was great about cancelling charges. BTW - seller had thousands of positive reviews on eBay. I love the CCs that require cell phone approval of purchases over a certain value or one made out of your normal purchasing geographical region per past usage.
  9. Anyone that's been a member of this forum for any length of time, realizes these Xbow topics go the very same route EVERY time. First few pages, people state their opinions and the sides are drawn. Neither side has any facts to base their opinions on, it's all about personal preferences or choices. The sky will NOT fall and we don't know if Xbows will resolve any issues!!! All assumptions! As always, like the past several pages revealed, the nonsense ensues. If you're going to debate Xbow legislation, have some logical input that isn't strictly conjecture. PLEASE, I'm interested in hearing it from either side of this issue!!!
  10. Not only for AC, but during heating season a forced air system will draw in warmer air, heats up faster/better within furnace and equalize the heat differential from floor to ceiling. Does require some demolition of wall sheathing in existing homes.
  11. The cost effective solution is dryer sheets refreshed periodically with a spray bottle. It's a proven deer deterrent in orchards, but the DEC does NOT allow them to use the sheets. Think the restriction has more to do with the respraying step that may but fabric softener onto the limbs and eventually absorbed into the fruit itself that's consumed by the public. Not sure if restriction only applies to fruit bearing trees/vines..!?! It does work! Anyone that lives in the suburbs or a rural area, knows a single electric fence wire ~10-12" off the ground will keep deer out of a garden. Royal PITA to keep weeds from grounding out fence wire. Can be an issue when a deer comes into contact with the elec fence, generally will pull the wire &/or stakes out of the ground, leaving it inoperable until you fix the mess. Dog hair tied in a nylon stocking (panty hose) works for a while. Not sure if hair loses its' odor after a few rain storms or the deer finally realize there's no actual dog associated with that odor.
  12. It mostly comes down to how much you're willing to spend to have the convenience of having power during those times of isolated outages!!! On the other hand, if you should find yourself in a power outage with no back-up plan, you'll pay anything to stay warm and keep appliances running!!! Although a royal PITA, I've gotten by during the 2X outages in past ~15yrs using a smaller portable generator and manually alternating what the gen's extension cord supplied the power to. Be surprised how little you need to run a refrig or freezer to keep their contents safe. If you don't live in a monstrously large home and it's fairly well insulated, running the furnace ~4X/day keeps temps moderately comfortable. I do consider a power outage an emergency situation, so having all the daily comforts of home available does seem unnecessary to me compared to the $$ of having them! But.. if there were a stay-at-home spouse/partner, small children, a work situation absolutely required my presence or past lengthy outages, I might be able to justify a stationary back-up generator.
  13. All proposed Xbow legislation the past few years has either been stalled in an Enviro sub-Committee or within the hands of the legislators. Hasn't gotten passed and sent on for Czar Andy's approval, yet.
  14. ^^^ This is NOT as a "cut n dry" statement as it appears. Lot of other factors influencing calls to deer search than to literally blame Xbow hunters as a general group of hunters!
  15. Since the DEC is limiting what apple farmers can use to deter deer, a lot of them are putting up 8' fences all around the orchards. Doesn't take the farmer long to realize deer are still jumping them and an additional 18-24" of top wires need to be added. So, jumping a hgwy is a small feet for a deer or elk.
  16. This is why I asked for a lawyer/forum member to chime-in. Believe I interpreted the legislation to read "convicted" offenses and "repeat offenders" before any actual gun confiscation occurred. Yeah, there's 1000s of scenarios where ex's or unruly children make false accusations out of revenge or spite. At face value, seems like a logical piece of legislation, but a lot of grey areas too... Interesting that some of you value your gun ownership over your relationship with a significant other... Sounds like a great candidate for one of those infamous redneck signs - Take my wife, but do NOT touch my truck, my hounds or my guns! Lighten up, just poking fun...!!
  17. IRC, maybe in May while turkey hunting is when they have nests with eggs. I've walked upon them a few times when the mommy bird feigns the wing injury and trots off to distract me (predators). Once you see them do that, you tend to walk a little more gingerly while looking for the ground nests. Actually came upon a nest a few years ago while doing my 1st ATV path mowing in spring and mowed around it. Bad news - following day the momma was gone and the nest was empty. My bad!! Now read that that's typical for them to abandon disturbed nests.
  18. Wish one of our resident attorneys would translate bill S8121 for us dumb-a$$s and post a new topic with the translation &/or impacts. Just for the record, have never hit a domestic partner or had an order of protection issued against me! I can see situations where a (drug?) alcohol fueled provocation or an out of control teen making false allegations might end up ugly, charges pressed and the cops wanting your guns, forever.
  19. If you've got the does around in any significant #s, take one early, put in freezer and the 1st blood pressure is removed. Chances of seeing a BB the early (SZ) part of October is pretty slim, so getting a doe out of the way while the weather conditions aren't so extreme is easier. You have to decide if the local population &/or your chances at a BB chasing a doe dictate removing a doe from that equation. Might even find it feasible to remove a 2nd anterless critter once gun season gets under way, depending on your bow season sightings.
  20. Keep hunting every time out as if it might be your last! Nothing good comes from agonizing over if it's time to throw in the towel, your body dictates that for you! Even if your're getting fewer hunts then in the past, shorter sits or even fewer sightings - continue as long as you are able.
  21. Congrats! You've served the community very well for many years. A well deserved retirement! No more arranging hunting around the work schedule, one of my favorite benefits of retirement! Enjoy life and family all you can!!
  22. Agreed, but everyone's mouth is a little different. Some have smaller profiles in the roof area and an off the shelf call needs trimming to fit the contour and form a air seal for best results. Others have big mouths. Opps, did I say that, you know what I mean!! In the end - trim as necessary, a little at a time.
