  1. This is just one of the FUBAR regs limiting Xbow usage that came out of that Enviro Sub-committee before enacting the 2 week Xbow season ~3yrs ago. Assuming it was an attempt to restrict some of the better performing reverse draw Xbows around at the time that had sub-17" A-A widths.
  2. Is it legal to shoot deer that are in the water....? Kidding! Only have one word of advice - kayak.
  3. I quit watching the Outdoor channel several years ago just for the same reasons the OP brought up. Way too many outrageous paid hunts, outlandish shots and of course the camera blatantly showing product IDs of apparel, equipment, etc. Definitely not the type of hunting us mere mortals in NYS encounter. LIke Lawdwaz mentioned, just TOO painful and frustrating to watch with any sense of realism.
  4. All the stupid crap on YouTube and they single out firearms videos......? Unbelievable!!!!!! If I were Google, I'd be more concerned with all the DIY bomb building videos they allow.
  5. First, rarely will a BH shoot exactly where a field point will, compound or Xbow! Never say never, but definitely rarely. NOT all mechanical BHs are adaptable for both compound & Xbow use. About 3X the stored energy is released when the trigger is pulled on a Xbow compared to a 60# compound. Buyer beware when buying mechanical BHs for a Xbow! Obviously, to the OP's question... If field points are consistent and BHs are not, assuming both weigh the same - Got to be a BH issue. Not necessarily the rope cocking issue that's sometimes present. FYI - Most sub-$500 Xbows are in that price range because mfging & performance criteria are ... less than ideal. Main place mfgers save cost is in the scope. They'll test (sight-in?) their Xbow/scope with specific bolts and field point wgts. Not many of these "cheapo" scopes will accommodate different bolt or BH wgt variations. May not be OP's problem, just a DYK fact when looking at entry level Xbow pkgs.
  6. Same for me & my intro w/a 10pt Xbow. At the time, they suggested NAP Spitfire. They worked great, even with ALL my mechanical BH skepticism. FYI - 10pt Xbows are owned & made by Xbow hunters, so take that for what it's worth with their BH suggestions.
  7. There's the best response to the OP's question, after 10 pages (so far) of hair-splitting &/or grey area scenarios!?! Are we all bored?
  8. Not to ignite the heated Xbow debate... But you can thank your elected officials in Albany for creating the current legislation defining Xbow seasons, allowed weapon use for specific small/big game, licenses required and harvest reporting. FUBAR government workings at its' worst! Stay at home Nomad hit the nail on the head! This is not the 1st discussion on this forum about how ECOs interpret DEC laws and how it varies per the individual ECO and situation. Assuming this is where common sense law might prevail. The OP's initial post is very similar to driving 3-5mph over the speed limit. You do this knowing you're getting into a grey area and there may be consequences. Will you get stopped and ticketed? Generally not, but you may because it is the letter of the law and dependent on the LEO's mood at the time. Not to mention your demeanor towards the officer at the time of the traffic stop. Can you fight this in court? Sure, but there you're also at the mercy of the town justice's opinion of the situation. So.....
  9. Very nice! My fav is 1st one within bow range! LOL
  10. I have a CC license, but prefer not tote one around everyday. Of course I live in rural podunk country. When I did buy my Glock G19, did a lot of research on ammo for home defense. With advent of recent 9mm loads & balistics, not sure why anyone would want to tote around a 10mm, 45cal, etc. No disrespect for your choice of CC, just wondering why the bigger is better theory?
  11. NAP Spitfire Maxx 100gr using Alum bolts and getting ~325fps & ~100Ke per mfger's chart. First attempt at using mechanicals and NO issues yet with BH's performance!
  12. Most fixed blade BHs, esp Montec G5s like I used can be resharpened and used over & over again. Never used them, but have to assume those fixed blade BHs with replaceable blades are same scenario!?! Now I use a mechanical BH, one shot and then into practice BH pile. Spend way too much time waiting for that encounter to not have 100% confidence in my BH, arrow or any other piece of tackle.
  13. Actually mow my lawn more during late October than I do any month during the summer timeframe. Keeps leaves mulched up and grass short so the wind can blow them away. Sorry neighbors! Last time I raked leaves, had ~15 bags & NO way to get rid of them.
  14. Lets just put my birth at the time of the Roswell UFO incident. Maybe I should re-check my DNA or heritage..?
  15. Could have been friends with a bear or a wolf....
  16. IRC, their products cost in the range of $10-$12/# and you have to furnish the basic ingredient, the venison.
  17. ^^^..... and typically those early does in estrus are being pursued by younger bucks! The big boys are conserving their energy for the full fledged orgy!!!
  18. There's at least a couple of these similar all-in-one gizmos on the market. Choose this brand because it had better wheels & hard rubber tires, but do wish they were slightly wider. Maybe motorized.. LOL. Super easy to load the cart with a deer lashed to it back onto the receiver yoke. When you look at the cost, they do seem expensive! But if you consider how much a platform AND a deer cart cost individually, not so expensive. Okay, so I wish I still had my Ford Ranger, my ATV with a winch & a small dump bed trailer... just have to figure out how to deal with what life throws at you!
  19. I admire any bow hunter that answers this poll honestly!!! Lets hope if your recovery rate is somewhat lower, you've learnt from any mistakes or poor shot opportunities. Things are likely to go wrong for any bow hunters and even possibly numerous times, but losing a deer is my worst nightmare!
  20. Now there's an image burnt into my brain I'll never be able to get rid of...! Kidding! Come on dude, not even a loin cloth???
