Yes I am...Just not sure when...The Mermaid has eye surgery opening day of Ontario season, so I can't go up the first few days as usual...The season is open the entire month of May, and I still plan to go up for a week or so..Just not sure which week...

Thanks, Bill....Actually, in years back I have called in a first turkey for a number of younger( and older) friends, but this will be my first time participating in the official youth hunt...I am looking forward to it, more than I am my own hunting..The young fellow I am taking out is a very nice kid and is very into hunting and fishing.. If he manages to score, he will probably have one of those smart phones, so perhaps I will have pictures to share..

I have never taken a young hunter out, because since the youth hunt was instituted in NY the dates have always interfered with my Ontario hunt..However, this year, the youth hunt is earlier, so I have a young hunter to take out next weekend.. Scouted the property this morning, and had 4 longbeards and six hens in my winter wheat field...All four of the gobblers had good beards, but two of them had spurs over an inch.. They were close enough for me to check them out with my 8x42 Leicas... Hopefully, I'll be able to get one in range for the young lad that will be hunting with me next weekend...

The only factory loads I ever shot in my 7MM08 were Rem green 140 grain, and I only shot them for barrel break in and to get a couple of boxes of brass...However, I have shot a number of deer with Nosler 140 BT bullets in my handloads...Accuracy was great and great performance on game also..Just on a whim, I tried some Barnes TSX 120 grainers...Accuracy and performance on game was the same, and they kick a little less, so that is what I am using now..

When they allow Sunday hunting I'll figure that either hell froze over or the Bills won the Superbowl...

I'm not sure of his national heritage...He worked with my Uncle Bruce in that bath house in San Francisco...

I once met a gender confused fellow whose name was Ben Dover...

Not biting too well...I caught 2 trout both around 11 inches and missed a couple...Should have nymphed the River, probably would have had some stocker action anyway.....I'm not smart enough to do pictures...

I plan to fish tomorrow morning myself...Although stream conditions are not optimum for bait fishing ( a bit low and clear) I intend to fish a few of my "big fish" holes on obscure tributaries that are not stocked...The fish there are either wild or holdovers that ascended from the heavily stocked main river... I don't intend to keep any fish, but one of the down sides of bait fishing is that sometimes fish are deeply hooked and must be kept rather than fed to the coons and otters... The bright side is that those natural fed trout are pretty good eating...The flesh is as red as salmon......

So sorry, Cynthia...Good friends are tough to lose...

Mint Remington Model 17 Pump Gun offered to me.
Pygmy replied to Rattler's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
It is a little high, but since you like it you'll be sorry if you DON'T buy it.... The first shotgun I ever fired was my Dad's M17....It was checkered also, but was far from mint... -

I entered a lake trout in 1975 taken from Keuka Lake that weighed 16 pounds 12 ounces...I got a certificate for my entry, but there were two other lakers taken from Keuka that year that were bigger, both weighing around 18 pounds...That was before the Lake Ontario Trout/salmon fishery developed.. That lake trout is still the biggest laker I have ever caught ( or seen) from the Finger lakes, although I know many bigger ones have been taken.. I caught it on a traditional style 5 leader Seth Green rig, fished by hand ( no rod)...It took a Sutton 31 and it took me a half hour to land it...I was 25 years old, and as I can recall I got pretty drunk that day...

Speaking as someone who has never tried this method, I think I have had ideal weather since I seeded 3 weeks ago...Lots of freezing/thawing, some rain, some snow...I am looking forward very optimistically to seeing how well the clover comes in...

Dang !!… That is just slicker than a finger in the a** !!...I'll have to get me some walnuts and try that... I know Clorox works, ( my Mom used to use a wringer clothes washer out doors) but the walnuts would be more environmently friendly... Thanks for sharing, Tacks !
