Fess Parker....In his later years he owned a vineyard and winery in California...Lived a long life and only passed away a few years ago..

When I was about 5 or 6, my Mom used to like to show me off to her friends, because I could sing the entire ' Ballad of Davy Crockett".....
-
My first TV hero in the early 1950s was Roy Rogers, but once Davy Crockett and his sidekick Georgie Russell started airing on Walt Disney Presents, Roy didn't have a chance...

I think I KNOW that girl, Rob... I once dated a girl that was so ugly she had marks on her where someone had been poking her with a ten foot stick....

I must admit that I have NOT extensively patterned non-toxic waterfowl loads , but I have shot quite a few different loads in the field, mostly through a Rem 11-87 3" 12 gauge and a Browning Citori 3" 12 gauge... My best results by far have been with Kent Fasteel BBs and 2s...Using an IC choke in the Rem and an IC/MOD in the Citori, I get clean kills on ducks and geese at ranges close to what I used to shoot with full chokes and lead shot back in the pre-steel days..

Good luck, My Friend...I am 68 ( going on 69) and I can run about 3 steps without taking a break.... At your age, the WORLD is your huckleberry...You should be able to do anything you want to do... I wish you the best....

Are you using it because centerfire rifles are not legal where you hunt, or just because you enjoy the process of dealing with the front loaders ? Or BOTH....??…

Damn !! That's .378 Weatherby ballistics....I am no math wiz, but I know enough about simple physics to know that a rifle that propels a 275 grain bullet at 3000 FPS would kick like hell, unless it weighs 20 pounds !

Obviously it is not a Hen Harlem Ho duck, then....
-
It is obviously a Great Canadian ****ing Duck....

I used to use sunflower seeds /water in the bucket for chipmunks....Then the bears discovered the buckets and that was the end of that...Now if I set a bucket outside it only works until the bears find it ( usually within a couple of days)..After that it's useless ; they tip over and empty the buckets every day.....

My daughter-in law is Phillipino..She uses it to stuff egg rolls... For a quick meal I sometimes crumble it, brown it in a pan and then stir in a jar of Alfredo sauce and serve it over pasta..
-
Better take head shots only...I have shot a few dozen squirrels with the .17 HRM, and that is way too destructive to meat IMHO , unless you make a head shot..Even with a ribcage shot you may very well pull the critter in half when you skin it..

Live from the Blind: Late Season Duck Hunting Report
Pygmy replied to The_Real_TCIII's topic in General Hunting
Many years ago, I had to cancel on a late season hunt on Keuka Lake due to illness...One of the two guys I had intended to hunt with stopped by my house after the hunt and gave me a beautiful canvasback.... Microwave ovens were just becoming common, and my wife and I had just bought our first one...There was a recipe in the booklet that came with it for roast duck...Like a damn fool, I tried the recipe with that canvasback...Turned out like a big chunk of duck jerky....I never have completely forgiven myself, and someday if I shoot myself, that will probably be the reason...Never had another chance to cook a cannie….<<sigh>>…. -

A cannie...WAAY cool...Never shot one, but I have heard they are good eating as puddle ducks such as mallards and blacks... -
Coon hunters are getting kinda rare since the pelts won't pay for dog food... My Dad was a dedicated coon hunter back in the late 50's early 60's...He often did not get more than a dollar a pelt, but he did it for the love of the sport... Then ten years later, coon pelts were worth $20-30 and EVERYBODY was a goddam coon hunter...<<sigh>>….

Pygmy replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
I was a bit worried that I might have to cancel....My pond overflow pipe was clogged AGAIN and getting it open was #1 priority.. However, I just came off the hill ..Got her cleaned out, with the help of a Polish Auger, engineered by a good friend of mine, whose nickname is POLOCK, by the way...Hehehe.. Some of you local guys probably know him... See you all tomorrow at noon... -
Goddam City Boys....I use my truck at least 2 or 3 times a week..As a TRUCK....Hehehe...

I have been shooting birds with shotguns since 1962.....If anybody can consistently kill ANY kind of flying birds at 70 yards, I would like to see it...
