I had a couple of those, but it was YEARS ago.....<<sigh>>...

I was standing along a beaver pond waiting for some duck action.... Three mallards, two drakes and a hen, came gliding in broadside from my right...I dropped a drake, and the remaining two birds flared, the drake turning 180 degrees and the hen continuing straight ahead...I reversed my swing, killed the second drake, and then reversed again and shot the hen before she got out of range, so I made a LEFT, a RIGHT and another LEFT in a matter of 3-4 seconds...All 3 birds hit the water stone dead... A few minutes later a drake Woodie came by and I dumped him with one shot... I was feeling pretty darn cocky until a flight of teal made two passes over me....I emptied my gun both times and never turned a feather !!…..Hehehe...

I only shoot if it is 91 %.....

Stormy, my friend....Lots of us here have killed LOTS of deer with shotguns....No debating that they are effective for killing deer within their limits... In your OP, you asked what the posters here would prefer as a deer gun in the Adirondacks …. They answered you, from your list of available firearms... Several of them are experienced big woods deer hunters... What more can I say ? Have a good day...

Back in 1999 ( PRE 9-11) four of us flew to Alaska for a Supercub drop for caribou... One of our members carried a whole bag full of those "hand grenades" aboard , and we all drank well without paying the high airline prices....Never happen today...<<sigh>>….- 10374 replies

Just tack up a few 8x10 glossies of Turkeyfeathers in his Realtree speedo.... Sorry... Couldn't help myself...Hehehe.. On a serious note, I always had good luck in discouraging from nesting under my carport and deck by hanging crow decoys from fishing line...No birds are going to build a nest with a crow nearby...

I'd use the semi auto carbine in a rifle chambering... I hunted ( as a guest) from an Adirondack camp back around 1980....There were 20 members in camp, and we executed " organized still hunts", where some hunters would slowly still hunt a large area and others would stand in areas where deer were likely move ahead of the stillhunters...They were very successful...Nearly all of the guys in camp used pumps or autos, mostly in .308 or 30-06...I was one of only two hunters who carried a bolt action, and there were a couple of levers... As I recall, the walkers killed about as many deer as the standers.. If I were to hunt that terrain again, I would want a reasonably light, handy rifle capable of delivering quick, accurate backup shots toward the south end of a rapidly departing northbound deer... Notably, nobody carried a shotgun....

It sure doesn't take an elk long to go 30 or 40 miles if he is of a mind to... When I was bowhunting / MZ hunting elk out west it was not uncommon for elk to travel 8-10 miles daily between bedding areas and feeding areas...

It was pretty chilly in the legion this afternoon...I wore a t shirt but wished I had brought a long sleeve shirt...

So what was your point in this thread ? You asked for advice and then picked the LAST firearm that any of the posters advised you to take... It sounds like you had already made up your mind and were looking for someone to agree with you...

BAAAD angle with the bow...No shooty….. Good judgement on your part TF... Too many bow shot bloodtrails do not have a dead deer at the end, due to people taking such shots...

Nope....I'd rather be breast fed by Bruce Jenner than hang out with Hilary....

" Discharge target"....Sounds like one of my old girlfriends....

The phone I used at home until 1968 did not have a dial...You picked it up and the operator said ' Number, Please"....I still remember a bunch of numbers from back then...My early teenage girlfriend's number was 416J.....Our home number was 242M1.. We were on a party line and all the old biddies would listen in on our calls... When I first started dating my ex-wife, her family still had the wooden box on the wall with a mouth piece and an ear piece attached to a cord...There was crank on the side and when you made a call you would turn the crank to connect to an operator...

Sorry to disappoint, Larry, but most of my memories are from restroom graffiti.. A few of my favorites ( over the trench style urinal)…. " Stand closer...That's not a WINCHESTER you're holding" "Please don't piss on the floor...The janitor has holes in his shoes" " Don't throw cigarette butts in the urinal.. It makes them soggy and hard to light"....

Gives me goosebumps...!! Also loved " Cover of the Rolling Stone " I also remember a line from the " Freaker's Ball" by Dr Hook... "BLACK ones, WHITE ones, yellow ones, red ones, NECROPHILIACS lookin' for the dead ones".... Hehehehe...
