The other day on my favorite Sirius Radio country station, I heard Waylon Jennings and Jessi Colter's rendition of the Elvis hit " Suspicious Minds"... It was truly PAINFUL to listen to... Definitely NOT their song, although I like most of their stuff.. It made me think of other tunes done by good artists that basically SUCK... A couple that come to mind....Dolly Parton " Mule Skinner Blues "...... Linda Ronstadt's version of " Crazy" , although Linda is one of my favorite female vocalists.. There a lots of others,....

Masochists....Hehehe...Call me a pussy.....

Certainly NOT !! Not too many guns recoil that much either, including some classic "elephant" guns Shotguns with heavy shot loads ( especially fixed breech guns) and slug loads are some of the most brutal kickers ... That is one reason why I like rifles....There are numerous chamberings that give much better terminal performance on game than shotguns at longer ranges with MUCH less punishment on the recoil end...

I expect it would also beat the snot out of the shooter....Hehehe...Whatever floats your boat..

It is also challenging trying to find your "stones" after you get out....

Around here it was a winter thing, because RATTLESNAKES like to hunt rats too, and a couple of the local dumps ( notably Addison and Cameron) were in prime timber rattler denning areas.. I felt a lot more comfortable tiptoeing around in the trash when the snakes were safely underground...
-
Back in my teen years, my buddies and I used to love to shoot rats at the town dump with our .22s... We'd go down at night and listen for the rodents to rustle around in the trash, and then spotlight 'em and shoot 'em ...I remember a few 50 rat nights... Great fun for a country boy...

I was hunting in Bath County, VA in 1985... I hunted a gobbler three mornings in a row...He would gobble on the roost a few times and then fly down and gobble...But as soon as I yelped to him he would shut up and would not gobble again for about an hour..If I called to him he would shut up for another hour...The third morning I finally decided he was not going to come to a call and I snuck down to where he was hanging out to try to find out what was going on...I saw him walking across a wooded knob above a high mountain pasture field...I checked the field out and found gobbler droppings and hen droppings..He was hanging out on that wooded knob and waiting for hens to come into the pasture ..He did not want to be called to..He wanted to SEE a hen turkey in that field before he would commit I did not own a turkey decoy at the time, but I borrowed one from another guy in camp...The next morning I was set up well before daylight on the field with the decoy out in front of me about 20 yards...he gobbled 3 or 4 times on the roost perhaps 200 yards away and then flew down and gobbled once on the ground...I gave him one string of yelps and he gobbled right back..The first time he had answered my call in 4 days...I yelped gain and he did not respond, so I spit my call out and just waited...That was around 6;00 AM....At 9:00 AM he gobbled again, about 100 yards away...I gave 3 or 4 soft yelps and he did not respond, so I did not call any more... At 10:00 AM he came strutting across the pasture right up to the decoy and actually PECKED her on the beak... I got him and the decoy with the same shot...he went down flopping, knocked the decoy over... The tom weighed 23 pounds, one of my heaviest birds...I returned the decoy to my friend, apologizing for the shot pellets that were rattling around inside it..

The guy on the bottle looks like my Uncle Herbie... He was arrested 19 times.....Once for public intoxication and 18 times for lewd and lascivious behavior.... -
I think the "sentry" thing is an old wives tale....I always shot at any crow that came over in range and my partners and I had a few 50 + days back when I was hunting them...

Good luck, big Fella !! Ba-da bing Ba-da BOOM !!

Best of luck to all of y'all who got hit hard.... Tucked down against the north central Pennsyltucky border, my area often dodges much of the worst weather...We are a little too far south and east to get the lake effect, and far enough west to dodge most of the nor'easters... All we got here was a lot of rain and a few inches of wet snow... We got lucky again...

The Mermaid's Toyota Avalon is as neat as a pin.... My Dodge Ram, however, is usually a mess, spit cups in the cupholders, assorted ammo in the cubbyholes, tools on the floor in the back, 5 gallon buckets ( sometimes with fish cleanings) and coolers in the bed, etc. etc...

Scariest experience or encounter in the woods or on the water

Ruby Ann Potlikker and I were out picking berries one time...Ruby Ann is a BIG local girl ( from Cameron).... She said she needed a little privacy and went down over a bank in the bushes... I was busy picking berries and happened to round a corner in the brush just as Ruby Ann was watering down a pine cone... Looked like a grizzly bear with it's head cut off... I've never been able to pick berries since.. -
Not a done deal yet, but negotiations are ensuing to lease 25 acres adjacent to my food plot to a farmer who intends to plant corn.. I borders my 5-6 acre plot, which is half in clover and half in whatever I decide to plant this year, probably oats/wheat or brassicas...
