My Dad was never much of a deer hunter, but he taught me a lot about hunting small game , upland birds, and especially coon,,,Coon hunting was his true passion, although he loved hunting rabbits and pheasants with beagles too...One of my uncles was an avid deer hunter and I got most of my early education in deer hunting from him.. A lot of my early hunting education came from interfacing with my peers...All of my buddies hunted and had learned from THIER mentors, and we compared notes and learned from each other... When I began turkey hunting, I knew very few people who had any experience, ...I read everything in print about the subject, and in the mid 1960s that was not a whole lot...Several of my friends were also eager to learn to turkey hunt and we compared notes and learned from each other's experiences... One of the very best woods callers and tactical turkey hunters that I know went turkey hunting his first time with ME as his mentor..Within a couple of years he was teaching ME stuff and to this day I am still learning from him..

I fished a trib of The Cohocton this morning...Water was high and fast but I managed 2 wild browns, 12" and 14"....Both were lightly hooked and went back in the creek..

sped across the property line..Rounding a corner in the trail, they had to skid to a halt to keep from hitting Bubba, who was cleverly disguised in a blaze orange hooded KKK robe....

For many years a group of friends and I always had an opening day trout contest...Entry fee was ten bucks..We would fish from dawn until noon and then meet at someone's house settle up bets ( longest trout took all) and then play poker all afternoon.. Most of the guys who use to participate are now dead or unable to fish anymore..It just ain't the same.. I'll wait until after opening day when water conditions are favorable on some of the obscure, unstocked tributaries that I enjoy fishing.. The fish are either wild or holdovers that swim up from the main river.. I'll drift crawlers and catch some beautiful wild trout and seldom see another fisherman..I seldom kill any stream trout anymore unless they are badly hooked, which does occasionally happen when fishing bait... Later in the month when the major fly hatches start coming off, I'll fly fish the main river, but the crowds will be gone by then...

A guide is required in Alaska for non-residents to hunt brown/grizzly bears, sheep and I believe goats....No guide is required for moose, deer, caribou or black bears . In most , if not all provinces of Canada non residents are required to hire the services of a guide OR outfitter to hunt big game....In many cases you can hunt on your own, but you are required to pay an outfitter for transportation, lodging, and/or other services.

Hope the dude was OK..I'd say he'd be lucky to survive.. Saying that, I have had a couple of incidents involving chainsaws that I was VERY lucky to avoid serious injuries... At it's very best, operating a chainsaw is a dangerous business...

FARTED !!...Well, I intended to fart, but then I was rudely reminded that my colon is not as trustworthy as it was when I was younger.... SOOO as I was "diamond cheeking" toward the bathroom , a large pink NIGHTMARE suddenly blocked my path....

What BBL length is your SKB, Al ? Mine is 25" IC/Mod....I bought it used in 1973 or 74 used but like new for $200 that I got from fox pelts as I was doing a lot of fox calling at the time..It has been my main upland game gun since then also..Every hare I ever shot was with that gun except for a couple I shot with my Browning Citori 12 gauge.. After many years of heavy use ( I never babied it) it shoots as good as ever and still looks pretty good too...

What G-Man said.... Coyotes howling in the immediate area may shut down gobbling for awhile, but I have located gobblers a number of times when they sounded of at coyotes howling a safe distance away from them... Up in Ontario I do a lot of gobbler hunting edges of very large cedar pastures and have watched coyotes and turkeys in the same field a number of times...I never saw a coyote try to catch one, because they know it's futile..The birds keep an eye on the coyotes to make sure they don't get TOO close but they seldom flee in terror from the sight of one.. I HAVE however had coyotes in to hen calls in woods or denser cover a number of times...

I am still wearing a pair of surplus Mickey's that I bought from SG many years ago ..They are the warmest boots I have worn.. However they are fairly heavy and bulky and it seems that usually my Mucks are plenty warm enough, so the Mickeys don't et nearly as much as they used to..

Bill was stunned by the frantic flapping of the Rhode Island Red... He tried to counter the attack with a well practiced Kung Fu move, but the clever bird threw a vicious karate chop and Bill's "horseshoe call" went flying from his mouth in a spray of saliva, blood, and chicken poop....

The cop tried to think fast...He said to himself " RELY on your TRAINING".... He asked himself " Which one is the DOG ?"....

I knew Larry was in trouble.....The cop was no stranger to me.... His mother and I used to play "patty-cake" back in the days when my hair was more curly and my overcoat was less rumpled... I was just about to speak when I realized that the elastic had failed in my Hanes briefs and " Big Bob and the Boys" were hanging down my left leg.... I thought....." Oh CRAP !!"..... Just as the cop turned toward me, things went from bad to worse.... Emerging from a patch of public land just beyond the policeman was Bill Schmidt, and he was carrying a large brown chicken by the back legs...

Depends....Up on the lake plains north of Lake Ontario where I hunt every spring the birds sometimes migrate as far as ten miles between wintering areas and breeding/nesting areas... Here along the Pensyltucky border in the foothills of the Appalachians, I suspect that many gobblers spend most of their lives within a 2 or 3 square mile area.. However, I am not an expert...If Bill would only come back.....<<sigh>>...

I had a bear trash one of my blinds two years ago...He did not remove it, but he made an entrance on one side and basically ruined the blind...Evidently he wanted to get inside and did not know how to use the zipper, so he just made a door of his own.. There was nothing in the blind except an empty plastic water bottle, which he chewed up...Silly bastard...I hope I see him during bear season.. I'll SHOOT his stupid black ass !!
