  1. I tried the horse vaccine....I had to start buying my jockey shorts three sizes larger.... Sad part is, I couldn't find anyone who CARED,,,,,<<sigh>>....
  2. Same as last year...Either my Rem M700 Mountain rifle in 7MM08, or my Winchester M70 Lightweight in .280 rem, depending on what I feel like carrying on any given day... If I hunt ML, my 50 year old TC Hawken .50 cal. with 777 and PRBs....
  3. Back in the mid 1960s, a boyhood friend of mine ( whose father was a notorious poacher and probably never cut up a "legal" deer in his life) taught me the basics.... I have done my own since then...For many years several of my friends and I would "pool" our deer and often cut up several together in a day...I probably have participated in cutting several hundred deer over the years... When I started doing out of state hunts with friends, we did the same with caribou, elk and moose...I have personally killed 13 caribou, but have helped process perhaps 30 others, plus half a dozen elk, 3 or 4 moose and a few pronghorns.. Other than that, I don't have experience in the process..
  4. Good luck to all of you out LI way ....Hope you stay safe and avoid any major damage...
  5. That looks like the patented, double step-over Japanese cock knot.......
  6. By the way..I see you have Pickled Ginger on the table.. Was Ginger lucid and consenting when you pickled her ??.... And what about Mary Ann...??.....
  7. Good move, Tacks... Remember....You can tune a piano, and you can tune a car, but you can't Tuna Fish.....Hehehehe....
  8. Nice job on a fine old rifle.... I still have my Dad's .22, a Stevens M15 single shot...As far as I know, it is the only .22 he ever owned...He hunted coon for years but had always borrowed his brother's rifle.... My Mom bought him that Stevens single shot for about $15 for his birthday around 1955 or 56.... It was also the first REAL gun I ever fired, and it accounted for my first woodchuck, rabbit, grey squirrel, coon, crow and ruffed grouse... And possibly a couple of other critters that I don't remember..
  9. Perhaps in YOUR lifetime....Where the hell is Ronald Reagan when we need him..??.... Reagan was the last pres candidate that I REALLY wanted to vote for....The rest have been just the lesser of two evils... TRUMP ?? I'd rather get kicked in the groin than vote for that egosistical asshole , but I'd rather be breast fed by Bruce Jenner than vote for Hilary or any of those other liberal commie bastards... OK..That's my political statement for this year... I'm going out in the garden to eat worms...
  10. I just canned up 7 pints of lake trout today...Me no do peectures, tho......
  11. Did it taste fishy ?? Oh sorry...Wait a minute...I thought you said LESBIAN squash....<<blush>>....
  12. Depends, Rob....Possum must taste bad to many predators...Most dogs, for instance ,will give it a shake and as soon as it goes limp, they drop it...Dog walks away and a few minutes later Ol' George Jones gets up and ambles away...
  13. It has been years since I shot at an unwounded running deer, but back when I started hunting, nearly everybody drove deer, treestands were unheard of, and if you didn't shoot at running deer, you didn't get much shooting.... Some guys were damn good at it...
  14. 400 yard horizontal cast ??... Cool concept, but it seems like it would pretty difficult to maintain contact with your bait/lure, especially with all of the currents involved fishing from the beach.... I have successfully fished at 300 feet vertically for halibut in Alaska and cod/haddock/pollock in the Atlantic, but that is a different scenario...
  15. Especially that 17 pounder that Tacks is holding...
  16. He looks like an alien deer, Greg...Have there been any UFO sightings in the last three years in your area ??
  17. When would be optimum time to plant here in Steuben County for best draw during gun season ?
  18. I think I have a few NoExcuses conicals left...I offered them to another member of the forum, but he had already ordered some.. I won;t be using anymore, because for what little ML I do anymore I just use PRB...If I have any left I'll drop them off for you to try
  19. A bowfin and a dogfish are the same thing.... Burbot are a fresh water relative of the cod..They are also called ling or lawyers ( possibly because they are slimy bottom feeders).... Mudpuppy is another name for hellbenders, which are large salamanders...
  20. The first time I hunted gobblers in Ontario, my host introduced me to a local friend of his who was a commercial fisherman on the north shore of Lake Ontario.... The guy had his pickup truck with him with his day's catch...Part of that catch were 8 or 10 bowfin which were head down in 5 gallon buckets of water...He told me that the Chinese in Toronto paid big bucks for them, but they would not buy them unless they were alive...However, the guy said they were incredibly hardy and several would survive for several days head down in a bucket of water..
  21. I honestly don't know....You probably could get a general idea by checking some online auctions to see what they are going for..
  22. All quality firearms that should last several lifetimes.. The Sterlingworth was A. H. Fox's field grade shotgun, which sold for the lowest price and therefore is the most commonly encountered... This is not to say they are of lesser quality, though..All A.H. Fox doubles were made to last forever.. The higher Grade guns ( A, B, C, etc) differed from the basic Sterlingworth mostly in features such as engraving, more elaborate checkering, ejectors, etc. Other than that I don't know a thing about them..
  23. We had a bunch...12 or 14 as I remember.....The only units that required more were the elite units up in the northwest corner of the state.. Still, good hunting can be had in many other units I bowhunted near Montrose a couple of years previous ( OTC) and saw elk nearly every day.. Good luck and keep us posted.. I'll check and see if I have any of those NE bullets left.... I'll never make it back out west and I use PRB for my local ML deer hunting..
  24. One of my partners shot a TC Encore on my 2004 trip and shot a 6x5 that was bigger than my 6x6.. he used the 385 Great Plains bullet which shot well in his rifle... We could have gone 3 for 3 but after we had two big bulls on the ground, my other buddy was not going to settle for anything less than a wallhanger, so he passed on several smaller bulls.. It wasn't like we needed any more meat.. BTW, this was unguided DIY...But I must admit unit 76 was ( and still may be) unique at that time, with a high population of elk , lots of accessable public land, and relatively few tags issued... Other places in CO you might see an orange vest behind every bush...I saw more MOOSE than I saw hunters....Could have shot a couple of nice Shiras bulls if I had a tag....
  25. DAY-um, Cowboy..!!! What a stud YOU are, chaps and all !! Wasn't it kinda uncomfortable riding out with those antlers tines up your butt ??.....Hehehehe....
