  1. Yeah, but the .22 is more FUN !! My uncle once had a Winchester original..Damn fool swapped it even up for a Marlin lever action !! I use the BOD myself, because it seems that everywhere around the Mermaid's property, it's tough to get a shot at one of the little devils without fear of hitting a building or a piece of equiptment.
  2. Happy birhday Dom !! I hope you have a few frosties and get lucky tonite !!
  3. Yup...He was a helluva boxer.... I'll leave it at that... There is nothing else good I can say about him...
  4. Keep her working as long as you can !!...Congrats on your retirement !!
  5. Paulie....I am ignorant as hell of such things, but about 3 or 4 years ago I asked the question on this forum.. On the advice of several knowledgable forum members, I bought a Covert MP 6...I used it a year and was very happy with it, so I bought another one. To date those little cameras have taken THOUSANDS of images, and they are both still working as well today as when I bought them. The batteries seem to last almost forever, and the images are very good, IMHO...I have left them out in all types of weather for months at a time and never had an issue. They cost me about $120-130 apiece when I when bought them. Don't know what they are going for now.. I am sure that some of the more knowledgable game cam folks will chime in here and help you out., but with my limited experience I would not hesitate to recommend the Covert .
  6. Good call, Alloutdoors....I really did not think bird looked that much like an accipiter, but the lack of a red tail threw me off and I knew it wasn't a broadwing or red shoulder...I have never seen a WET Cooper's, so that was my best guess.. At what age do redtails reach maturity ? I know they are fierce predators and will sometimes attack game larger than they can handle..As I stated I saw one hit an adult turkey once and I have also seen them attack adult woodchucks.
  7. Hard to imagine a sharpshin taking on an adult woodduck, but then I have seen a redtail attack an adult hen turkey.. Definitely not a redtail...I'm going with a coopers.. A goshawk would have smeared poor Mrs Woodie.. I hope she survived to get back and take care of her ducklings.. SUPER footage as usual, Wooly !!
  8. Good thing you didn't decide to handle the owl, Doe.. I still have scars on my arm from MY encounter with a great horned owl, and that took place when I was 15 , in 1965... hehehehe... Resulted in another of my MANY tetanus shots when I was younger...
  9. I think the last time I had a tuna taco was around 2008... WOOOPS !.. Sorry... Wrong thread....<<BLUSH>>...
  10. Nothing this morning in the spot where I heard four gobblers last Friday.. GLAD it's over !! Not I can get all that stuff out of my truck and get it put away, to make room for my FISHING stuff !! Of course, then there is that LONG honeydo list that The Mermaid has been harassing me about... That woman's INDIAN name is "Five Horses".....Nag, nag, nag, nag NAG !
  11. Good luck, guys...I'm off for the last HOO-Rah....I haven't hunted this spot since Friday...Hope somebody didn't knock off the big boy over the long weekend.
  12. You are TRULY my HERO !!....<<GRIN>>....
  13. Yeah...Passed up another jake this morning..he was a big jake...Had about a 5-6" beard and spurs perhaps 5/8".I checked them out at about 20 yards with my 8X Leicas.. I have a honeyhole up in Cameron where I saw a hog two days ago..I can't hunt tomorrow but I'm going to give him one last try Tuesday.
  14. Another fine bird, my friend !! Congrats !!
  15. Let me get a beer and some popcorn....<< SIGH>>....
  16. No such thing as a golden rattlesnake...Some reporter who don't know **** is referring to a yellow phase timber rattler as a " golden " as if it is a distinct species.. Three venomous snakes in NY....The copperhead, the missauga rattler and the timber rattler in it's several color phases..
  17. I heard about another guy who had a similar but not quite so traumatic experience.. He was hunting with a very dear old friend who has tagged out and had located a gobbler... They sat until nearly 8:00 AM and heard NADA, when finally a gobbler answered up... They set up and the dear old friend was doing the calling, all our hero had to do was sit there and shoot the damn turkey.. It was a textbook call up...The gobbler stepped out at 30 yards and posed... BANG !! The shot went over the gobbler's head and the bird flushed totally unscathed, at least leaving no indication of being hit...Perhaps a result of holding on the HEAD rather than lower on the neck with the new tight patterning Longbeard XRs.. The dear old friend who had located the bird and had done the calling, commented, " How the hell do you drop those ducks and geese and crows flying at 50 MPH, and miss that great big gobbler standing there flatfooted at 30 yards ??" Actually I consider quite a feat..One poster on here not too long ago stated that it was pretty HARD to miss a turkey...
  18. Poor wretched soul !!!
  19. Just remember to stuff the potato down the FRONT on your pants, not the back...
  20. Actually, I'm not all that fussy.. I'll bet that surprises the hell out of most of you...<<wink>>....
  21. My least favorite would probably be stacking hay in the barn also, Dom... Fortunately, I have not done that since Moby Dick was a minnow...
  22. Are you going to invite me up for a few sippies, Joe ? I'll bring a couple dozen oysters on ice and you bring a couple of hot blondes...or brunettes...or redheads...
