The only animal I have ever seen eat a possum is another possum. Owls won't eat 'em and they LOVE skunks ! Crows and buzzards will eat road killed possums, but I'm guessing they would rather have a nice ripe coon or woodchuck.. -
I thought that was John Colter that outran the Blackfeet...

My bean soup turned out great...I just finished eating and I am farting already... Life is GOOD......

BEAN SOUP..!! I have had it simmering all morning with a nice meaty ham bone, plus some onions, pressed home grown garlic, bay leaf, rosemary, finely diced carrots, and of course some coarse ground black pepper..The Mermaid is stopping at Wegman's Bakery in Corning to pick up a nice fresh loaf of fresh crusty bread to go with it. Saturday I am invited to a friend's house for a game dinner..I'll be making Lawdwaz's killer venison oven stew as my contribution.

I've always been interested in the history of the mountain men and I have read several accounts of Hugh Glass's ordeal after the grizzly attack. I am presently about halfway through reading "The Revenant" and plan to watch the movie soon after I finish the book. Friends of mine who have seen the movie told me it was excellent.

I was sorting through a box of old family photos when I came across A Trappers Supply catalog from O.L.Butcher in Shushan, NY. the date is 1966-1967 and it is addressed to my paternal Grandfather, who died in October 1967. Pretty cool stuff. It lists over two dozen of Butcher's own scents and lures, most at $1.25 per bottle. Here are a few examples of prices... #2 Victor Coil springs....$1.99 each or $19.95/dozen Victor 110 Conibears ...$1.29 each or $12.95/dozen #1 Victor Longsprings....$0.77 each or $7.70/dozen # 330 Conibears....$9.25 each or $ 92.50/dozen Newhouse wire rat stretchers...$3.85/Dozen Ash pack basket, 6 peck capacity (largest offered)...$8.00 There are many other items and accessories also, including an application to join the New York State Trappe's Association. A five year membership cost $1.00 , and you got a Membership Button along with it. Officers at that time were O.L.Butcher, Shushan NY, Bill Leathersich,Caledonia, NY, and E.J. Dailey, Ogdensburg NY.

Probably some old turkey hunter croaked and his widow threw out his seat along with the rest of his "junk".. Hope your new seat works for you.

Yeah, Larry, my Mom warned me about it. She said that " The Golden Years" is a misnomer...They are actually the RUSTY years... Of course my Mom also told me that if I didn't quit "that" I'd go blind.. I decided to wait until I needed glasses.

As I get older, it seems like EVERYTHING I try to do is more difficult, including sitting on the ground without moving. In the last 5 years or so, I've gone more and more to .using pop up blinds. I can sit inside one on a stool or small chair in relative comfort, and I don't have to worry nearly as much about getting caught moving when I need to shift my weight or stretch a leg. I'm less mobile, but I no longer cover the ground that I used to when I was a strapping young lad of 45 or 50...
-
Yeah, Larry, that makes you a CLOSET redneck !

That would be a .38-40, then...Nice vintage rifle...Surely you have seen the movie " Winchester 73".... I had an 1889 Marlin in that caliber, but I sold it..One of several guns that I am sorry I parted with.
