  1. Nope.... You are not allowed to shoot deer with #6 shot, but there is nothing illegal about carrying shotshells with you while deer hunting and shooting grouse, squirrels, rabbits, pheasants, ducks, geese or other legal game in season. If you shoot at a DEER, you are required to use single projectile ammo.
  2. Congrats, Wooly...YOU DA MAN..!!.. A few years back my nephew shot a buck late in the shotgun season. We dressed it and then each grabbed an antler to drag the critter out..The one I grabbed came off in my hand.. I told him to put a rope around the neck so we could get the deer home with at least ONE antler..
  3. Geeze Elmo...All the time with the tough questions...<<grin>>.. I am only guessing at this, but I think that as long as you have no single projectile or buckshot ammo for the shotgun you would be ok. It is PERFECTLY legal to hunt small game with small shot during deer season as long as you do not have any slugs/buckshot on your person.
  4. Pygmy

    I feel sick

You did the right thing, Skillet... If you had known he was wounded, you would have been justified in taking a chancey shot... Compost occurs..Perhaps you'll get another chance at him. Good luck..
  5. So much talk about such a simple thing. The law is clear, whether speed limits or shooting hours. You make the decision whether obey it or violate it. If you violate it and Officer Ferndip writes you a ticket, pay your fine and don't WHINE....
  6. I am no authority on optics and don't have a scientific/ technical answer, but I do believe that in any variable scope the eye relief shortens as the magification increases. Just the nature of the beast. Are variables meant to be used as fixed power after mounting ? I don't think so. That would cancel the only advantage that variables have over fixed powers; the ability to increase magnification to adjust for longer distances or smaller targets.
  7. No FAIR, Wooly..!!.. I started OUT second from the right.. Tonite I had venison chili with crusty french bread and BEER..!! I'm using up last year's supply of deerburger...Got 2 pounds left and 60 pounds of fresh stuff in the freezer.
  8. Holy sweater puppets, Elmo..!!.. I'm surprised that at your age you REMEMBER Raquel Welch... I barely remember her myself, and I can remember when Moby Dick was a MINNOW !!
  9. You dirty old man...<,wink, wink>>..
  10. The pattern seems the same, considering what I observed, what my local friends observed and what lots of members on this forum observed. VERY little deer movement during daylight hours after the first weekend. I blame it on the tremendous acorn crop plus lack of snow cover. The deer don't need to move. They bed in the thick stuff and when they get hungry all they have to do is stand up and gorge themselves on acorns. If they venture out of thier secure bedding cover to feed in fields, they do it at night.
  11. Good work, Larry.. Always great when you score on the 11th hour... I noticed that the bolt is on the wrong side of your rifle. Must have developed the negative backwards...
  12. I am not doubting your story or your observations, but that is unusual behavior for a deer shot through the ribs with ANY projectile. Usually, unless the CNS is hit, they take off like a scalded cat and pile up within a fairly short distance. I guess your deer was just the exception that proves the rule. I once watched a friend put three 160 grainers from a 7MM mag through the ribs of a bull caribou that just stood there and then finally fell over, but caribou ( and moose) often react differently than whitetails to a bullet strike. They aren't hard to kill, but sometimes it takes them awhile to realize that they are dead.
  13. Let's put my season on the FEMALE scale... A perfect season would be a Halle Berry... The worst possible season would be a Rosie O'Donnel... My season was a Marylou Fernbender... You probably don't know her...She wasn't all that great but she had a couple points of interest...
  14. Congrats, Buckboy...Love it when a plan comes together. Never ate a doe I didn't like... Are we gonna have to start calling you DOEBOY now ? <<grin>>
  15. Way to hang in there, Philo.. I'd have gone out myself, but after wrapping and freezing 60 pounds of deerburger this morning, I was kinda thirsty and went to the Legion for a beer instead...<<grin>>...
  16. I thought it was curly maple... VERY fine firearms, my friend.. Be STILL, my beating heart !!.... I'm going to go snuggle up to a nice piece of walnut and fall into a restful sleep....<<sigh>>....
  17. DANG, Philo...You have restored my faith in humanity.. Blued steel and wood...Are those stocks MAPLE..?..Real purty... I'm starting to chub up.... OOOPS !! Wet cleanup in aisle two..!...
  18. Hey, I was just asking about the livestock.. Nothing wrong with that, is there ? Or nothing to be ashamed of ? At least not for some of the farm boys I grew up with.... Nice try...
  19. Diplomat, do you have meaningful physical relationships with farm animals..??... Since we are asking each other direct personal questions here, I just thought I'd ask...<<SMILE>>>...
  20. Nope..I couldn't hit a bull is the ass with a flintlock... Besides, it's getting too damn cold to hunt deer by that time of the year.. I'd rather bundle up in my insulated bibs and ballon boots and go listen to a beagle run a rabbit...<<grin>>...
  21. There are people who are only alive because it is illegal to kill them. It would be just to take that scumbag out behind the barn and put one behind his ear.
  22. Pygmy's bore sighting process... Mount scope. Place target on fairly large ( maybe 2' square) at no further than 10 yards. Fire one shot..That will tell you what direction you have to move. Move target to 25 yards..Adjust scope to dead on..usually doesn't take more than 3-4 rounds. Move target to 100 yards. Sight in 2.5 to 3 inches high. With most chamberings you'll be good to 250 center hold on ribcage..
  23. Sadly my K98K is not matching. The stock and the rear sight have been replaced. the guy I bought it from said the original stock had Luftwaffe markings, but had been butchered when he got the rifle. Still a good deal..I paid $125 for it. It is on display now at my local American Legion post, along with a type 38 and a type 99 Jap , a nice Longbranch 1944 Vintage # 4 SMLE and a Finnish re-arsenaled Moison Nagant (1917).. As far as the Yugo is concerned, it is all matching and pristine. I know collector value is not all that high, but who knows what might develop..It was only a few years ago that you could buy truckloads of M96 Swedes in great condition for $125 ea. Try buying one now for less than $300, or probably more.
  24. No Biz, Pa doe....I shot one Monday and another one Tuesday. I could have shot 2 bucks that I THINK were legal, but couldn't get a good enough look at the racks to be sure.. One was well outside his ears and was probably an 8, but I was not positive, so I did not shoot.. Last thing I want to do is to walk up to a downed buck thinking " I hope he's LEGAL.."...LOL...A buddy of mine shot a 4 point a couple years ago with an 18" spread. In the thick shit where I usually hunt, you generally only get one good opening for a shot, with 2 or 3 seconds to execute it. If you spend that time trying to count points, your opportunity is usually gone. Oh well... I don't need any more antlers and I have two nice, prime does for the freezer.
  25. Cool stuff, Wildcat.. I believe my M48 was unissued... It just has some handling marks from storing, etc. Most of them were made when semi auto and selective fire rifles were rapidly replacing bolt actions as battle rifles/ assault rifles.. I just hesitate to alter a pristine military rifle..They aren't making them anymore. I'd rather find one that has already been "Bubba'd" and turn it into something special..
