  1. I'll hunt morning and evening sat-Monday this opening weekend. I love to hunt so I get out there as much as possible. Can't get em from the couch! Unfortunately I couldn't get any time off in November this year[emoji17]. We fired a guy at work so we are short handed as is and another guy with more seniority than me already had the first 3 dang weeks off in November. So I'm gonna be stuck working 12 hour days for a little over 3 weeks straight. It's gonna be tough getting out in the woods this November that's for sure. So I took the last week of October off. It was the best I could do and I hope I will catch a mature buck beginning his cruising for does Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. For me it all depends on the stand. Certain stands I can sit and shoot in and others it's better to stand. I always try to shoot sitting down if possible though. I can get a much more stable shot that way. Especially when my adrenaline is pumping. But I can shoot standing up if I have to no problem. I even get down my knees in ground blinds if need be. Ive always practiced shooting in different positions so I'm ready for anything Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. 2015 Bowtech Carbon Knight HHA single pin sight QAD drop away Shadow Stabilizers 10in Stab with 2oz weight Carbon Express Maxima Blu RZ arrows Great shooting bow and crazy fast. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. I use two different setups based on length of time being spent out in the field. For half day or morning/evening hunts in decent weather I use a good sized fanny pack with the shoulder straps to carry the minimum necessities. Grunt tube, small flash light and headlamp, 3 knifes, a few zip ties, gutting gloves, small bottle of aspirin, beanie and face mask, water bottle, small spray bottle of scent killer, one or two of the Tinks scent bomb things with the wafers that you hang from tree branches (double purpose of these is for marking yardage...usually set one out at 20 and 30 yards to help guess range if I don't have a range finder with me) and can't forget a small drag rope! All day sits or all day hikes during gun season I'll use my badlands super day pack. It has everything my fanny pack has (literally buy double of everything to match supplies in each pack). Extra pair of socks and based on temps I throw in a extra layer or two if I need it. Packed lunch in zip locks. In this pack I carry more survival stuff as well, compass, fire starter stuff like dryer lint in pill bottles. Small flint striker. TP. Camel back full of water. And anything else that I would need to get through a night or two in the woods if I had to. After my years guiding I've got my packs pretty much setup to be ready to roll at any time and have everything you'd need without too much extra crap weighing you down. It's like a science lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. There's tons of state land around with little to no pressure in my area. I know of several areas that most likely didn't have a single hunter cross through once all season. There's so many tracts of state land in this state that it's impossible to not to find someplace that has little traffic Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I always take a peek at my weather station thing on the wall before I leave for work and it said 38 degrees this morning!! That was at 445am. I opened the door and it sure felt amazing! I love fall weather...I wish it could be fall all year round. These cool temps are making my buck fever go into over drive!!! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. No way I'd pay that much for a dang blind. Idc what anyone says....you can put anything out in the woods and with a little time the deer will pay no attention to it. When I guided in Kansas we used old grain bins a lot as blinds. Hell we even used a old abandoned farm house! Set a guy up in the living room with a comfy chair and he thought I was crazy until he saw all the deer piling in that afternoon. I'd pay the 2 grand for one of those redneck blinds. But only because I think the material they are made of will last a few long time with little to no maintenance. Other than that, a blind can be anything...deff doesn't need to look like a tree and cost 5 grand Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I've been asking myself this question about 600000 times a day for the past week or so. I can't make up my mind on which stand I want to sit first. I have 6 stands up behind the house and all of them are just as good as the next as far as deer movement around them. My tentative plan for opening morning is to post up in a lock on that sits in between a clover plot and a big grass/brush field. This stand is very close to the house so it's a short walk and I figure I have way less of a chance of kicking any deer out on my way in. Evening hunts I'll most likely go to a ladder stand I set up on the back edge of the property that has a small hidden pond/water hole that's surrounded by oaks. Stand is set up just off the oaks about 40 yards in a brief pine cluster that borders some crazy thick stuff I've deemed as their bedding area/sanctuary. Tons of trails leading into this area from the oaks and pond. It will be hard to get to this stand in the morning without busting deer out so I think I will keep it as a evening only stand to keep pressure down I know one thing for sure...I can't freaking wait to get in a tree!!! 9. Ya I can't find it again either. Seller doesn't have any more listed at the moment. But it looks like all they do is broad heads so they might have some on there again in the future. I'm shooting 73.5 pounds to be exact. Should be plenty! Lol. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. I was in 6th grade English class when it happened. Was living in Monroe back then. Since we were close to the city and a lot of kids parents worked in the city, the school went on lockdown and wouldn't let any of us know why or what was happening. The only thing we were told was "what's happening is worse than Pearl Harbor". That's when I knew it was serious. The school was concerned about massive amount of kids possibly losing one or two parents at a time so they didn't want us to know until we were sent home early. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Most of my bucks that have been around all year are disappearing. A few have made brief reappearances and I have a few new bucks showing up too. First was a big spike that appeared from no where. Now a smaller spike and even more recently a small 8 it appears to be. I've got 8 cameras on this property so I can't be missing too much. Nice to see the pattern change though. Hopefully a big one comes wandering in soon. O and my bear is back after a few weeks hiatus Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. This months delivery...damn guy put too much in there and broke his trailer trying to get in my driveway! Hahaha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. Ya I couldn't pass them up for the price. I was about to buy some knock offs but saw these and figured I'll try the real ones first and if I like them I'll try some knock offs next. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. Not sure if PR technically allows target shooting...but I do it and so do plenty of others...I've seen guys up there shooting ARs and Aks, blowing through a few hundred rounds at a rip. Plenty of area up there you can pull off into and setup a target to shoot at...no ones gonna bother you.
  15. $68 shipped on eBay. 4 packs. Split it with my buddy. So we each get 2 packs for $34. Not a bad deal. Hope they do good as I haven't tried them before...will report back after a couple kills! [emoji16] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Rural towns and schools are all about hunting. My high school I graduated from used to expect most boys wouldn't attend school on opening day of gun season....and they were right lol. Now where I'm originally from in Orange County (Monroe). I had a few elementary teachers back in the early 1990s that actually made a huge stink over me telling hunting stories and drawing pictures of me and my dad hunting. They had to have a big meeting with school superintendents and other staff it got so heated. My parents went ape shit on them and threatened to sue if they didn't remove me from my class and put me with a different teacher who wasn't a anti hunting vegan tree hugging whack job. All of my friends in the Monroe Woodbury school district thought I was a redneck hillbilly for hunting. After we got the hell out of that area and moved up north, I was considered normal again by my peers Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. That sucks you didn't have a decent time with flying arrow. I'm pretty picky about where I spend my money and who touches my bow. Now with that said...I only let Jim (the owner of flying arrow) do anything to my bows. I too bought my bow online last year and brought it to flying arrow to get setup and tuned for me. Jim explained it was a 30 something dollar fee to set it up since I didn't buy the bow from him. At first I was a little erked but then as I thought about it I do understand he's running a business and that's a way to get guys to buy bows straight from him. But last year I was a little tight on extra cash since we were in the middle of buying our house and with pressure from the wife I ordered online to save a few bucks. I have heard the bad stories and the good stories about flying arrow and I have seen both good and bad first hand. Jim can be a little pushy on new bows and certain products, but remember he's a business man. If you can remember that when you walk in, you'll be less likely to feel pressured when deciding on new stuff. And without a doubt Jim knows his stuff when it comes to working on bows. Regardless of any personality traits he may or may not have, he does a good job on setting the bow up exactly how it needs to be. Even with a lot of people in the shop waiting, he spends a lot of time tinkering with my bow getting it just right. But I will say I don't trust his employees nearly as much. I was just there this past Friday to get a new qad drop away put on as my other drop away wasn't working right and Jim was busy with quite a few people and I ended up with his employee putting my rest on. All was good until I got home to shoot and I'm hitting all over the place. Getting fletching contact due to rest not being timed right and nock point was too high. I took it in this afternoon and Jim was pretty disappointed that his employee had it setup so poorly and he quickly dropped everything to spend almost a hour tinkering with my rest, nock point and d loop and even the timing of my bow cams to get it perfect. After the first 3 shots he adjusted my sight to the left a hair and it was bulls eyes from there out. So I guess I'm on a positive note with flying arrow. But I'm no fan boy...bad experiences in the future could change my tune, but we shall cross that bridge when we get to it. As far as I can tell...your paying the going archery pro shop going rates for a guy who does a real good job. Pretty simple enough for me. When your like me and working upwards of 80 hours some weeks, I don't have time to cut my own arrows or do the little things I know I can do. So all I look for is someone to do the job right and for a decent rate. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Uggghhhh. Mine are about 2 inches tall and need rain badly! I don't have much hope for them making it. It's like the Sahara desert around here. Ground is cracked and dry as a bone! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. My house and the property behind it are all new to me for this hunting season. I've been running cameras since we moved in late November last year. Cleared some overgrown fields and trails on the property and planted quite a bit of food plots but most got destroyed from the drought. Mostly just my clover plots are doing alright. But that's alright we at least got fields opened up this year with a additional 6 acre field I still have to fill up for next spring. We've blazed a couple new trails around the property to give better access to stand sites and for atv riding fun. Me and my buddy have 6 stands up right now. Will be adding more in the future once we get a better handle on what works and what doesn't on this property. But our hopes are high! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. Thanks for the tip! I was just about to pick up some more lithiums! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. Generac whole home generator here. Runs pretty much entire house minus one or two bedrooms. I too have a sump pump that needs to keep basement from getting wet. Self tests and runs for 10 mins every Thursday at 9am. I think my tank is 100 gallons. It hasn't been filled in a year. I think it's at 90% still. Runs great and it's awesome to not have to worry about power going out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. Sadly, $60 isn't even considered pricey for arrows anymore....I just bought a half doz maxima blu rz's and they were $85. And that was online....I'm tempted to believe a bow shop might be a few bucks more. I only took 3 shots with my new arrows and they blew through my target like it was nothing. My old arrows don't even come close to going through. My grouping was tight on my 3 shots but it's the new found speed and KE that I'm most impressed with on these high dollar arrows vs the cheap ones. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. Well I should've taken a picture but I was a little frustrated at the moment and forgot too. I ordered some new carbon express maxima blu rz's and just got them in yesterday. Had a chance to take 3 arrows outside quick at 30 yards and all 3 blew right through my target and into a dirt pile 4 ft behind the target! I have been shooting the same target with my old arrows for over a year with no blow throughs. I can tell I picked up a ton of speed and KE! The grouping was excellent on the only 3 I shot. I guess it's time for a new target.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I hear ya. I just hope everyday that all the cards fall in the right places. Looking good so far but life can throw curve balls at ya lol. O ya I can't wait to never work for someone else again! Truth be told, our goal is to eventually stack away as much money after the wife takes control of the business then eventually sell when the kids graduate high school and move out to Iowa and buy a farm. I can farm to cover taxes and put a little coin in our pockets but we won't be reliant on it. And I would like to open and run a small hunting outfit. Have a very small number of guys a year. Maybe 5-8 depending on acreage size. Just enough to cover my hunting hobby expenses lol. I used to guide out west before settling down and I miss guiding guys to monster bucks. That's the goal at least. We will see how it shakes out in the end Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
