  1. I don't understand how a judges ruling in one county can supersede a statewide conservation law. I did some googling on this and it looks like Judge Frank LaBuda made this decision in 2012 and the decision had little to do with conservation law. His decision was that prohibiting the feeding of deer was a violation of the first amendment right to freedom of expression. Maybe someone can enlighten us what that has to do with deer biology but I don't think I am even going to try to figure that one out for myself! https://law.justia.com/cases/new-york/other-courts/2012/2012-ny-slip-op-22243.html An additional interesting fact was that this judges wife Kathleen LaBuda http://www.scdemocratonline.com/archives/2003/news/10October/21/district2.html was in attendance at a banquet of the Sullivan County Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs as early as 2007 http://sc-democrat.com/sports/10October/05/sports.htm Judge LaBuda himself has appeared at their banquets, too, be it that the appearances were after his 2012 court ruling from what I can find online(see below). You can make judgements for yourselves here, but to me this all looks a bit fishy. I also vividly recall that several so called "sportsman" clubs in the Catskill region had way too much influence in the decision to have the Catskill region go to antler restrictions, so it just makes me even more suspicious about these type of rulings in one specific part of the state.
  2. I'll try to be more brief next time. LOL
  3. I also think that humanity just can't read or comprehend anything that's longer than a short paragraph anymore. Reading a tweet or a short text message on their cell phones is about all they can handle. The (mostly negative in my opinion) impact that smart phones have had on the human species is mind boggling.
  4. I bought one from him on behalf of my uncle who isn't a forum member and everything you say about the purchase and sro is absolutely true.
  5. I wish I knew you back then, Biz. I would have sent you a teddy bear to soothe your grief.
  6. I looked it up and he was traded in 1989. Gotta love Mut fans, too. They've been making excuses for them for decades now.
  7. Yeah, if it wasn't for the Mets trading away Lenny Dykstra he'd still be rooting for the Muts. LOL
  8. You gotta love the Mets. They are masters at losing and choosing losers as players, managers, general managers, etc. LOL
  9. I thought I read someone say in a thread somewhere on this forum that feeding was LEGAL in Sullivan county when deer season is closed? I don't see any exceptions made for Sullivan county in this DEC regulation and sort of doubt there ever really was an exception.
  10. King Andy would suffer the same fate as Gillibrand, DeBlasio, Guiliani and Pataki if he tried to run for president, maybe worse. Trump Jr. also doesn't have a chance in the world to become governor of this state. How well did his father do in NYS in the electoral vote??
  11. Well, he's got the whole world as his stage now, so it's not something someone like him wants to walk away from.
  12. He's not dumb, but he isn't nearly as smart as many make him out to be. If you'd put his brains up against presidents like T. Roosevelt, Lincoln or Jefferson, his is nowhere close. I don't think he ever even wanted to become president. He just entered the primaries to make a circus out of things and damned if he didn't go all the way. I've said it before, he is the modern day PT Barnum, the great circus master. If there was one thing I was giving him credit for it was for pulling us out of those endless wars in cesspool countries like Iraq and Afghanistan, and now it looks like he might be getting us into an even bigger mess. His mind, opinions and policies can change from day to day, so this, at least to me is a sign that he is far from a genius.
  13. Also, knowing how these things work, leasing privately will in many cases end up in a bidding war with someone else. Even if the landowner didn't get an offer to lease from someone else they will tell you they did, just so they can increase the price on you. Lucky is the guy who can lease long term from a private landowner without these various issues rearing their ugly head!
  14. You won't get a muzzleloader cleaner with any other method. Boiling water and dish soap will get it spic and span clean. You are wasting your money on cleaning solvents for muzzleloaders.
  15. That video right there proves you don't need a lot of brains to be a successful deer hunter!! LOL
  16. I took that picture when I was setting it up again before gun season for deer, but YES, I do keep all the windows open. Game could approach from any side at that spot, so I want to make sure I have a good 360 degree view of things. Doesn't seem to bother game having the windows open. Like I said, we had a few turkey come very close with our heads bobbing around on the inside and the windows fully open. Oh, and even had a few chipmunks try to join us inside by trying to crawl in underneath it! LOL
  17. I bought a blind for the first time this season since it was my 12 year old son's first season hunting and figured it would be better hunting with him from one. I bought a Cabela's Zonz that was on sale for $99 and cost me all of $2 after I used my Cabelas points. So far I have been very satisfied with it. Probably not the greatest blind to come down the pike but for the money seems pretty durable and definitely more roomy than I expected. You can easily fit 3 people inside it. Easy to pop open, but like Pygmy said in his post above, folding it back down will involve a bit of profanity. Otherwise, it's not too bad. Has been lucky, too. We killed a bunch of squirrels, a turkey and a buck from it this Fall, and had several other turkeys come within stone throws distance from the blind without them paying us any mind!
  18. My comment was not directed at you, Moog, or anyone in particular. From what I read here on this forum it seems that some hunters are in constant view of deer and may see scores of them each and every time out. That's great for them, and I don't think there's a hunter out there who wouldn't love a spot like that. The only point I am trying to make is that many hunters, maybe the vast majority, don't have it so good and probably never will. I think it would be a humbling experience for some of the folks who have these great spots to see what the rest of us have. My apologies if my remarks offend anyone. Things have a way of going wild on this forum, thus one of my new years resolution will probably be to post less often.
  19. I've tried a lot of the "premium" ammo over the years, but I've come full circle and now in the last 10 seasons or so have gone back to the cheap $17.99 per box Federal Power-Shok for my favorite deer rifle. The accuracy I get with them is NO worse than what I can detect with the "premium" stuff and the deer are just as dead when I whiz a bullet thru them. Maybe if I was going on a once in a lifetime hunt somewhere I'd shoot the more expensive stuff, but for hunting NYS woods I don't see any difference in lethality.
  20. I think some of the big buck slayers here from western NY need to hunt where the rest of us hunt. We'd find out how good a hunters they really are. The one thing I can guarantee is that it would be a humbling experience for you fellas!
  21. And the final answer might be, What is "I got skunked this season!".
  22. There are plenty of other issues with NYC gun laws that should have been taken to the supreme court before this one. I highly doubt the court will overturn any of those other more relevant issues while addressing this one. As has been said, NYC has already changed this law knowing that it would be overturned, so end result will be that nothing else will change. It takes years before the supreme court even wants to hear a case, so unfortunately it will be a LONG wait before NYC gun owners see any significant changes in their gun laws. Hell, NYC residents have needed a gun permit ($180 every 3 year renewal) to even possess a rifle or shotgun since the late 1960's, so how long has that law stood without it being taken to the higher courts?
  23. Come on now, it's your first deer what's wrong with a button buck?? Any deer you kill should be considered a trophy. Don't get wrapped up with what you see on the TV hunting shows or any hunter telling you that hunting should be all about antlers.
  24. I'm with Mowin on this one. If state land was all I had access to, I would not hunt at all. I just don't like the feeling knowing that someone might be setting up 50 yards from me. And it's not only someone else messing my hunt up, I can just as easily unknowingly screw someone else's hunt up, too. I simply don't want to hunt in situations like that.
