Be careful , a lot of those pot plots are booby trapped.

The first reports are from the traditional early season spots were guys have access to private land I.e vineyards,Xmas tree farms in the hamptons ect. There are plenty of deer in the rocky point area, but their holed up in thick brush and avoiding the heat by staying bedded during day light hours. I myself will not touch suffolk until nov 1st, to many ticks and not enough movement. -
Movement? My wife called me to say she almost nailed 3 with the car running across the road in cove neck nassau county last Thursday,So far she's done better than me.I travel 2 hours upstate to see nothing and she almost wacks one 5 minutes from the house.

Deer thug, just stay the course. I spent several days last gun season with out seeing a single deer, then out of no where here comes a nice 8 ptr, hence my screen picture. Keep the faith!

I saw 2 does in 10 hours on stand yesterday,I think they saw all the movement I was making swatting the flies away from my face all day,Too damn warm.

Spent 10 hours in the woods and I had 2 does walk past me at 50 yards at 8:30,That was it for the day.Spent most of the day swatting flies away from my face.Too damn warm.Of course saw plenty of deer driving home even an 8 ptr and spike on the side of 17,Watching the cars drive by.

That noise is a sonar device deer use to detect hunters!

Yes,A large trail that we walk in on,Actually wide enough to drive an atv on.Never thought to set up on it before,But one day last gun season I just tried setting up on it,not expecting anything and next thing I know 6 does walk down the trail right below me.

Poor quality but interesting,The doe at the base of the tree stood there for a few minutes and sniffed the base of the tree,She could smell the scent I left behind several hours earlier,Despite wearing rubber boots and spraying scent control on my camo.

Moose in Sullivan might be a stretch,But a fellow land owner in 3H still swears to me he saw a cow elk cross 97 near Cochecton several years ago.

As I live within ear shot of CSH,All waterfowl hunting there is done via floating duck blind.There was an issue several years ago with conflicting laws between the Town of Huntington and NYS.The town says there is no discharging of firearms within the town,Yet NYS DEC said it was legal to waterfowl hunt in the harbor as long as you obeyed the laws pertaining to distances from houses. I know of several hunters who were met at the dock and issued summons for violating "Town" law.The summons were fought and I believe it was resolved.

Hey Aaron,Im from Huntington also and I just picked up a new bow myself.My 25 year old Hoyt is officially retired. I went to Island wide archery in Hicksville and picked up a Parker Eagle. Solid Bow,Good reviews on line and he's got a decent Bow package I.E. Bow,set up,Arrows and broadheads for about $850. PM me if I can be of any help, but hurry Oct 1st is coming fast.

I hear you,The craft beer industry is exploding in this country.My favorite brewery is located here on L.I. called Greenport harbor. There are several good brewery's in upstate NY,one good one is Ommegang.

I was out there in August,Plenty of deer sign every where,However your right,Not many trees suitable for a stand.Its very thick with heavy underbrush,But the deer are there.

Probably a coy dog,Coyote mated with a local mutt.

Spray yourself down with tick repellant,I can't stress this enough. The ticks in eastern suffolk are out of control.
