  1. I meant that clinical procedure where some pregnant women discard the unborn. I'll be more clear next post. I just ask that pet owners keep your pet on a leash when walking it for exercise or when not, keep the pet within the confines of your yard. Doesn't seem to be that hard to do.
  2. Humans toss babies in the trash every single day, but when it comes to their precious animals, they instantly become "pet parents" and get all worked up if one of their precious "babies" do not come home after running wild. If I come across a dog running deer on my property, it's a dead dog...sorry I got off topic a bit.
  3. Shawnhu, I was on stand opening day of shotgun in 9H. The buck was walking with does when I harvested it with my shotgun. The portion of arrow stuck through and just below eye level was quite noticeable at ten yards. It was nice 7 point to boot. I wasn't about to let the buck roam with an arrow in him the way it was, although he seemed to have little problem navigating. I'll never forget that day.
  4. This picture does remind me of my first buck taken in 1985. The buck had the leading 7 inches of an arrow. with arrowhead still attached and stuck in about the same place as the deer pictured, only higher up, almost obscuring the bucks vision. Unbelievable, but true. I was happy to put that buck down, although it was running with a pack of does and didn't seem to be bothered by the 6-7 inches of arrow stuck in front of its eyes.
  5. I just properly tag my harvested deer and take it to a deer processor, pay the man, pick up my meat and get outta Dodge...no volunteering of info from me, except for properly reporting my kill to the DEC.
  6. Hummm..looks familiar to something I stumbled over in 2009 while driving a back road in 9H. Deer on the side of road with head lopped off. I reported the situation to the DEC...they said they would investigate. Hope some good came of my reporting what I found.
  7. ....plus you let the big boy have a little fun and die with a smile on his face...maybe in a couple years you'll harvest his offspring...
  8. It takes 30 seconds for me.LOL. I had a chance for a buck Monday PM with one side busted off, but chose to hold out for better...still exciting to have 'em in close.
  9. exactly what I do. Never have cold hands.
  10. surprised the ladder stand manufacturers haven't come up with a ladder stand that safely allows the removal of bottom third of ladder or rungs. The hunter removes that portion of ladder and hides it nearby, then retrieves and installs to access his/her stand. Of course, if not safe, then companies are open to a lawsuit...I avoid this trespasser problem by ground hunting and cut some brush for a quick ground blind.
  11. He is of "keeper" age. Better let one fly or I can come over to "help".
  12. Not too bad for me when it comes to wearing glasses while hunting. Just rain issues, but my camo baseball cap keeps the rain off my glasses for the most part.
  13. I wonder if you may have a rotator cuff tear. Sounds similar to what I went through a couple year back.
  14. Whatever you do, please have your friend contact a reputable forester contractor. For a small percentage of the proceeds ( 5 to 7%) you get the forester to field survey the property in question, mark the trees, set up the property for logging companies to tour the property and solicit bids from the loggers. I may be missing a step here or there, but this has been our experience when having our property logged. To let someone just come in without the proper guidance is a recipe for disaster.
  15. Why not take a puff...relax and let the deer come to you.

  17. Phade, I know as you know why the Saturday opener was brought forth, and I would be happy to mentor during the existing Saturday Regular season opener...that would be so cool to do and witness a little fella get the big buck. I really am not in favor of losing any more quality bow time as you are...I was just trying to come with a workable solution given the situation we find ourselves in right now....I do not think there is a good solution.
  18. My preferred youth deer hunt weekend would be the last weekend of bow season. Given that bowhunters now start hunting Oct 1st,my feeling is that most bow hunters will have had ample time in the field and have had a positive hunting experience to that point, and sacrificing the last bow weekend to the youth just makes more sense to me. Good luck to those participating in the youth hunt and be safe.
  19. Wondered if anyone knows of a reliable deer processing operation in the area mentioned.
  20. Cusehunter, When you mention this property is wedged between residential and college property, I hope for your sake that there are no problems when the first shot rings out...you know how anti-gun/hunting people can get. Next thing you know, some do-gooder group shows up from the "hood" banging pots and pans in protest to your hunting near the campus and residential area, even with permission from the owner. God luck and I sincerely hope things work out for you...Good luck this season.
  21. I have done mid-day hunts...but only because of late arrival to camp, however, I have seen deer on the move arriving mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Also, don't be afraid of venturing out mid-day during a downpour. It's miserable, but you can surprise unsuspecting deer this way. The drawback( no pun intended) is the bow shot and the problem of losing a deer due to blood trail washout.
  22. sounds very interesting. Hopefully your idea can be perfected and used in many other ways beyond hunting. Of course, your equipment, once installed, would just be stolen by trespassers.
