  1. I figure some other guy/gal just did the same thing on the other side of the hill and those deer are gonna come my way. I just sit and hunt.
  2. Promise my wife to take her to a warm tropical island, and, in return, 12 days of bowhunting...
  3. Given that you do not have time to mess around, I would just snuggle in where the wind is in your favor, set up a quick ground blind and wait 'em out. Do not pi$$ off the farmer by cutting and slashing his property. Be happy to have permission to hunt and be sure to give the farmer some choice steaks from the big buck...good luck!
  4. Wonder if you hear much activity/shooting on the State land. If there is commotion on the state land, maybe it would benefit you to keep your food plot(s) as far away from State land as possible and work in the sanctuary where it is the thickest. Of course, as mentioned elsewhere, this is not a sprint, but a process that may take some time...Good luck.
  5. I'm just happy to get out with the guys on occasion to hunt, and plot a simple strategy to either harvest or help someone else harvest an animal, then sit at the cabin and tell stories of deer hunting from years ago...with the help of an adult beverage or 2...pass the Merlot...and the cheese...
  6. Seems simple enough to get hunters buying licenses to fill out a questionnaire...I like the idea so as to get a more accurate read on what hunters want. If implemented, Have DEC try to break down the questionnaire into regions, drawing up sections into something like "western southern tier, "Niagara region", "Genesee region", "St Lawrence region",etc., instead of one size fits all arrangement.
  7. Hope these knuckleheads work something out...in the mean time.I'm goin' huntin' real soon.
  8. Sorry, just my wish list of how I'd operate congress. I wish there were term limits.
  9. Congressman can serve two 2-year terms then back to their earlier career. If he/she wants to run again, he/she has to wait one 2 year election cycle to either run again for another congressional seat or a Senate run or Prez. Got to clear out the dead wood somehow.
  10. Forgot to pack the Merlot last year...had to "settle" for Canadian beer at camp...other than that, I've been perfect...
  11. I'm happy to know Mike is still working hard at his shop. He is presently working long hours right now due to a backlog of bow work, sales and service. I went in today with a problem, worked me in somehow and got me out within an hour. He didn't have to do that, but the work he did was much appreciated...A darn nice guy and a very knowledgeable archery guy.
  12. That wouldn't play well in my home...
  13. I'll be going out around October 28th through nov. 8th
  14. I have been fairly active all my life. Here I am nearing 60, still playing some pick-up basketball, walking golf courses, and working out at home. My favorite workout involving some cardio is shooting Baskets at the local "Y" for a half hour or so. I do that to work up a good sweat. I picked up a workout machine called "The total Gym" and it really helps my strength and endurance. I try not to eat crap, but do fall victim to a nice glass of Merlot now and again... Even with this, I now prefer to pull out that big buck with an ATV as opposed to dragging...that sucks.
  15. Would love to have an unlimited budget to go hunt prime private property out west and forget about dealing with trespassers. We also have trouble with Geo-cachers on neighboring properties walking around looking for buried stuff in the fall, further screwing up the hunt. Just cannot win.
  16. I wear some cabelas stuff...mid weight..comfortable and inexpensive
  17. We sometimes kick in some money to our neighbor farmer to leave some standing corn for us, just to maybe keep deer interested in our area.
  18. I second your recommendation on Mike...great guy...knows his stuff.
  19. Cool...must be great to take a peek from your desk and see what's up in the area you plan to hunt. Next year I will try to do the same. Thank you all for the feedback.
  20. I do not live on the property I hunt and I do not want to spend considerable time and wear and tear on the vehicle just driving up to check on trail cam pics, plus my wife prefers that I not go to camp that often anyhow. I have to plan my hunts carefully and get the most out of the time I can squeeze in at camp. For once...maybe just once...I would like to get to see what's up in my little neck of the woods ahead of time and in front of my 'puter screen, instead of stomping over hill and dale, before heading out to hunt. I'm nearing 60 and I just want to up my odds a bit and, of course, enjoy a glass of Merlot at the end of the day...wait a minute...I already do enjoy my merlot and Steak...You get my drift...I hope..
  21. I have never owned a trail cam, but am considering a type of cam that transmits pics via internet. Kind of pricey, especially with people with sticky fingers lurking about. Wondered if there are people out there with some knowledge on this product. Thanks.
