  1. I try to watch some, but the commercials are just too much and too many. Also the events added recently do not interest me, such as the half pipe, flippy-do snowboard stuff. Anything else that involves fastest time, longest jump, etc., are more interesting. I really like the biathlon.
  2. A shovel and my 20 year old son.
  3. Looks like a condo...May be roomy enough for a small bunk, a 2 burner propane stove, easy chair. After breakfast inside, just raise it up.
  4. I predict lots of smoke at the end of halftime....
  5. Good to call first. Also, please do not assume anything as far as the location of your meter pole, and anchoring. Also, if it is hard to meet up with a planner and you plan to be at your camp ahead of a planners visit, PLEASE take the time to stake out your preferred pole service location and clearly mark the stake as "pole service. Drive the stake into ground...do not just stick in the snow and use a longer stake to stick out and be seen. flag with bright orange tape, etc.. After the planner visits the site and finds your preferred staked pole service location, he/she can then stake out for company poles, anchoring, plus stake out for your pole service location as near to your requested location as is practical. Just a heads up for you. Believe me, I have seen everything imaginable, so do what you can to help the planner out.
  6. The cost per foot varies. If National Grid needs to extend poles, conductor down the road from the last house you mention to reach your property/driveway entrance, the first 500 feet of overhead extension will be free of cost, as long as you have proven you have developed permanent facilities to the property, such as well, septic and home. If not, all work will be charged and collected. If you built a home, septic, well, then you will receive a refund of a portion of what you paid for. If you go through with obtaining service, make sure you or someone else meets with a rep on site to discuss the matter and look for the best way to bring service to your property. 12dollars/foot is a number tossed out by phone reps and is not to be taken as gospel. excessive tree cutting of ROW can add up, plus any extra guying/anchoring required, affecting the cost per foot. It isn't cheap anymore. It was mentioned that 200 amp would be wise to install...no sense in going 100 amp then changing it out because of future needs.
  7. The town supervisor will have a problem with someone other than the town road crews opening up a closed seasonal road. It's closed due to no permanent residences nor is it a mail route.
  8. All depends on how elaborate you want to get. I like the idea of being off the grid if you're only around camp sporadically, but the convenience of 24/7/365 power is tempting. Things are quite different after National Grid bought out Niagara Mohawk nowadays...has gotten more centralized and harder to deal with telephone reps answering the phone in Syracuse and them not knowing where the hell Montgomery county is....again the memories of frustrated applicants finally getting through to me and I having to setting the customer down after the mis-information given ....memories. ...By the way, does National grid have Overhead facilities across the road from your property?
  9. May be wise to check the "R" value of the insulation in your attic this spring, if you have one...or the seal on the sliding glass door. Looks like a problem to me...just sayin'....
  10. I worked for national grid (retired) and did the field planning for customers for many years...ahhh the memories....
  11. Looks like you are in National Grid territory. Call their 800 number and make application for Overhead pole service. Paperwork will be prepared and a service rep will be assigned to your job. Field visit will be arranged. Try to be there when design rep will be there to stake out the job. There may be a need for National Grid to set a road crossing pole, or maybe not..all depends on field conditions. Be aware of possible construction charges from National grid for service to a camper if that is all you have to work with. Company protects itself with charging for "temporary service charges" for its work to connect to your pole service should you not construct a permanent residence. Also consider the distance from National Grid facilities to your camper and calculate voltage drop now for your camper and for the future, should you decide to construct permanent residence. Hope this helps.
  12. Any predictions on the weather for the super bowl? I would like the NFL just keep the most important game of the year either indoors or in a warm weather city. I wouldn't want to sit in the snow and cold...except on deer stand!
  13. It's a tough nut to crack trying to gather enough support for the cause. One way in trying to gather support for our issue is to solicit and combine support from other people concerned about other rights being taken away...something as simple as linking the proposed 32 ounce soda restriction or the use table salt in NYC, (I don't recall the exact stupid restrictions being kicked around) with our 2nd amendment concerns. Using social media to tie these items together may be a way to reach out to others and to warn other groups of future socialistic possibilities on the horizon. Getting Safari club international, pheasants unlimited, ruffed grouse society, etc., more involved, if not already, and using the print media to get the word out. Again..tough nut to crack here.
  14. Yep...Although the people I talked to told me the areas open to hunting were safe, I guess I can say that I got cold feet about wandering into the area.
  15. Several years ago, while working within the west valley nuclear site, I was talking to reps from the project and was informed of the deer hunting opportunities, both with the bow and gun within the project. I did sign up for a permit and received my permit for the area I was interested in hunting, but never hunted there. Wondered if anyone on this forum ever hunted the property or do you know of someone who did and what did you think of the experience. I have heard of some great bucks taken off the property. Thanks.
  16. Can the gelatin powder be bought at any drug store? I am having similar problems with tenderness in my right elbow. difficult moving, grasping objects with my right hand...bad pain in the elbow area. Thanks.
  17. been skiing at the "Valley" off and on for 30 years...watched it develop over the years. About a 25 minute drive from where I live. If you like the night life, then the village of "E" Ville is the place to be...just bring your money. Nothing cheap in the village during high season. Dina's is a very nice restaurant. If you like it simple, sit by the outdoor fire with coffee in the Adirondack chairs at the Coffee culture....ooops...you said you just did the ski thing....never mind....
  18. If an individual feels the need for extra height and can do so safely, then go for it.
  19. Nice here in Florida...now where are those golf clubs...
  20. ...plus reading these posts while sitting poolside in Florida...oh well, better git some golf in, then sit in the hot tub.
  21. spotted drone flying over the neighborhood this past summer. Of course, my female neighbor was wearing next to nothing in the backyard when the flyover occurred. How did it know?
  22. Had a hot air balloon drift directly overhead of my position while bowhunting in 1978. The balloon drove a couple bucks right towards me....One buck stood broadside, looking up at the balloon while I drew back. I fired and missed. A strange experience. I do endorse hot air balloon driving deer...
