Thanks Bill and best of luck! Time to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep! Washington County has some great potential, it is getting a little better. MY brother lives on the Vermont border and one of the landowners by him has 1200 acres. He said to my brother "we've been trying to weed out the spikes and three's for the last few years but we haven't seen any big bucks." That amazes me. They shoot 15-20 small bucks every year and wonder why they aren't seeing the big ones. I was just talking to my buddy who saw Dave a few day before he took his buck. He told him how he was passing on 4's and 6's. Glad his determination paid off. Hat's off to him! A lot of guys who want to shoot big bucks don't pass up small bucks because they think the next guy down the line is going to harvest it. Tough habit to break.

Yep! That's a beauty!

I guess the bright side is he isn't just going out and wounding stuff. Hope it doesn't hurt your luck tomorrow!

Get some pics up!!! I live 8 miles from Cossatuna. I went to school with Dave... if it is who I think it is. That is a really big buck for around here!

Looks like a nice one. I saw a real nice buck Weds 7am Walking 30 yards from the road. Went by there today and there was a spike standing there. Wish I could hunt it but these people do not like hunting.

Welp, it is official I am not taking out the bow for rifle season. I will either bring the .308, or .25-06 to cork one. Can't wait... Probably will toss and turn all night Friday just like every year. YESSIR. -
That's a nice one! Hey, what are you doing with my gun??!!

C'mon that rolled out of your pant leg! Years ago there was a buck leaving baseball size droppings around. My brother got buck fever and missed the buck at 60 yards. A guy humped up taking a "scat" ended up shooting it. It was an 11pt that went 208lbs. That is absolutely unheard of around here. This year there is a deer leaving droppings like that in the same area. It will be interesting to find out if there is a true relation. So I wouldn't doubt it if it was a big buck. Could be a doe too.

I would hunt the powerlines in the AM. I'm sure it is illegal, but I have always wanted to put a climber up a pole on a powerline clear cut, obviously staying at a safe distance from the lines. -
i sold my vexilar last year, but i got the itch. i heard another good tip taking those little rubber sqiushy toys that have the little rubber antenae sticking out all over the place (about 1" long not even a 1/8th in diameter), cut off some of those and rig em.

I saw a real nice buck today walking along the edge of a cut corn field at about 700am. Heavy chocolate brown rack outside the ears and tall tined. A friend of mine was bow hunting about a half mile down the road. lol. Good luck Grow.

And that is how you become an addict. Welcome and be prepared for some damn good times! -
It is very easy to take things out of context on the internet (i.e. read them in the wrong tone), I know I have written things that could have been mistaken for being rash, or arrogant, but I don't post things to belittle anyone. Constructive criticism can easily be miscontrued.

Who is ready for some gun action this weekend!
BUCKANDAQUARTER replied to burmjohn's topic in Deer Hunting
My zipper broke on my camo coveralls (AKA "monkey suit" to my brother) so the SIL is coming over tomorrow to sew on a new zipper. At least she better. other than that i am good to go. -
I have hunted the same land for years. Every opening morning I hear the same guys blasting. From the one guy that always shoots about a half hour before legal, to the guy that empties his auto-loader at 730. Then there is the guy across the valley that always shoots once at 745. At about 830 the neighbor who sits about 200yards from me gets his opening day deer. Usually about makes me fall out of the stand. Sometimes I half expect a granade to come flying in. Just wondreing if anyone else can just about set a clock to the shots.

that sounds scary as all heck. I haven't been trapped in a tree when that has happened, but when I was in high school i brought two of my buddies out scouting. we were in the middle of a bunch of pines and a front came through. the wind picked up and i said lets get the hell out of here. we made it about 30 yards and directly where we were standing a big pine blew down. we would have been smushed or sqewered. call it divine intervention or whatever.

About ten years ago (or more) my brother was hunting on the edge of state land opening morning of rifle. He had a deer come in just before light and noticed it was acting strange. It would bed down, get back up, bed down, etc... Finally legal shootng hours came and he saw it was a spike and it just kept acting weird so he made the decision to put it down. Come to find out it was shot in the jaw, probably by a .22. There was no exit wound and its jaw was broken and teeth knocked out on the left side. That poor thing was hurtin'.

It has been a very strange year where I am. Tons of sign showed up from mid Oct until about 2 weeks ago. Rubs and scrapes everywhere. I saw a spike come under my stand with his nose glued to the ground. Went up to my rifle spot yesterday and only one new rub on the walk in and no scrapes or droppings. I was kind of bummed actually. Then on the way home I saw a real nice buck with horns outside the ears, probably a 16+ inch spread. He was chasing a doe. A couple of days ago my buddy was about to draw back on a nice doe when he noticed her acting nervous. He waited about two minutes and sure enough a 5 or 6pt came barreling through without a care in the world, nose to the ground. He tried grunting and "maahhh"ing but nothing was stopping it.
