  1. Local news station cover this in the capital district. http://www.cbs6albany.com/news/features/around-the-web/stories/deer-gets-up-close-with-cohoes-camera-wrgb.shtml#.U8_ZHrGwXm8?wap=0
  2. I would think that the coyote unless he had friends wouldn't stand a chance. One good swat and the dog would make the term leaving with your tail between your legs become real.
  3. Hey Chuck, Thanks for taking the time to explain. All good knowledge to have and it all makes perfect sense. I can relate to a lot of it from being in the traditional archery field. It might be slightly different in the approach but it goes back to the same basics. Thanks again.
  4. Doc, I have 6 peach trees in my yard and not a single peach also. I am getting crazy growth out of the trees though.
  5. Hey it's on the internet it has to be real!!!!!
  6. You bring up a good point with no riser to go around. Plus you are getting a very straight push with the string on a cross bow. I can see how a tiny bit of adjustment on a cam would throw the arrow a little. Here is my question and I am not familiar with the new technology so bear with me. When you are using a recurve style crossbow what stops the string from centering itself on the holding mechanism? I know there would be a lot of tension on the sting but i would think with vibrations of walking the string would right itself to the center and wouldn't cast the arrow at an angle?
  7. In traditional archery we deal with this all the time and it is usually a spine issue. I think it goes if it is knock left you are stiff in spine (add weight to the front) Knock right you are weak in spine (take weight away). You can add weight easily by just changing you field point. Three rivers sells kits from 100 grains to 300 grains. Link= http://www.3riversarchery.com/Screw-In+Field+Point+Test+Kit+-+1132_iCF-T_baseitem.html I would think with the bolts being so short you could get away with some good weights up front of those little arrows. Hope this helps.
  8. I have hunted the ones that are coming to NY down in S.C same species. I can tell you that they don't come after you. You wouldn't think something with such short legs couldn't run away so fast. It is actually funny to see them take off, makes ya chuckle. They will attack if cornered but so will anything.
  9. I have one and they are great for bow range. I used mine last year during bow season and the one time I didn't have it on a deer came in and I got a shot off. lol They are fun.
  10. I want to make buckskins and I don't have anyway to get hardwood ash to make a lye solution. What product can I buy in a store that will do the same thing and not ruin the hide?
  11. It doesn't make any sense to fill out the op out form when it is on the internet from only a couple of years ago. It is good the can't put any new names out there i guess.
  12. you for got in myth one to add scopes to them!!
  13. Cumo is pulling the wool over your eyes he is no friend to the outdoorsmen gun owners etc. He is just worried about his reelection. Is this good for the hunting communities yeah we need all the help we can get but don't think Cumo is a go to guy for us.
  14. I hunt rabbits with two beagles. If you are thinking of rabbit hunting with him I would go for snowshoes and not so much cotton tails. Cotton tails tend to be much slower and a long legged dog might push them to quick and make them hole up. With snow shoes they tend to travel faster and with the depths of the snow a long legged dog would be great. Most people that hunt with coon hounds for rabbits have a cross dog like blue tick beagle etc. If you are going to train him for rabbits don't go half way. Do it and do it right start him young on rabbits and train him all year. I would take the opportunity to run with other dogs if you can but also train him by himself and make sure you break him of deer.
  15. I have two beagles that i run regularly. One has what i say is a cold nose and the other doesn't. My beagle Elmer usually does better in colder temps HOWEVER with a very light powdery snow the sent doesn't stick very well and he even has a hard time. When it is cold out I usually wait until mid morning to run my beagles because the snow has a little time to melt and the scent sticks to the snow better. Hope this helps
  16. Made some new Mutiny 350's for a present this year. Hope they bring the hunter good luck.
  17. I have a long draw also. I am almost at 30 inches so I am pulling 51 52lbs with my bow. I would get some finger pinch if I went much under 60 inches for my bow length. As it is I have some pretty funky calluses on my shooting fingers. Hunting traditional is very addicting. I haven't touched a compound in 10 years. It is so much more fun knowing you have to outsmart the deer by being so much closer.
  18. You can but they walk away by themselfs very easy
  19. It is a hybrid. Reflex deflex takedown Fastback Striker. 50lb @29. My best shooting bow. I used to shoot a martin vision and loved that but wanted something shorter. So I went from a 66 inch bow to a 60 inch bow. Lol. I did see that 6 inches made a difference.
  20. Got out for the last few hours didn't see anything with the snow falling but it was good to get out. Not a great year for putting meat in the freezer but an awesome year hunting as always. Now it is time to switch gears and go to small game.
  21. Come on everybody knows you just look at the rack and can tell exactly how old they are. Watching hunting shows is a good one too.
  22. I have the summit open shot for bowhunting and gun hunting. I love it, it is light and easy to put up and take down. It goes up some huge trees and some tiny one at that. The cable design to go around the tree is alright. It is kinda clumsy when you first use it but you get used to it. It doesn't slip on the tree which is important. The biggest drawback to it is it doesn't collapse flat on your back as the lone wolf does and the cables hang low even fully retracted. If I had the money I would pick the lone wolf climber over the summit. Just because of the collapsing flat issue.
