Same cam on my bow - I like it very much.

Seems like all I do is hang out at camp, cook chow, get things ready for hunting seasons and generaly have an excellent time. Getting sick of this I tell ya.

Nice lookin plot area. You have some apple trees caged back there?
-
That. My last pin is 40.

Tested one of the 5 watt cfl bulbs included in the kit. To my suprise it lites up the inside of my camper very well. Also only uses .35 amps compared to the original 12v bulb fixture at 1.3 amps. We'll see how it goes once it's colder but I stil have the led's & lantern. Plugged in outside. Plugged in inside. Orange glow from the firepit Why couldn't I take a clear picture? After 6 shots of tequila that's about as good as it gets.

burmjohn; I like how the Turkeys sort of lined up at the edge of the plot! They sure started picking through it alright. Spring planting? Cool video.

Seward Bill Favored By Cortland County Sportsmen Signed Into Law
Fantail replied to Fantail's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
I hope to have most of my hunting done before SZ reg opens. And even so where I usually go is slug range so not much will change. However this does open up a possible new stand location, oppertunity covering a 180+ yard opening on a different lease. The 700 would shine there. Without getting into the reason why it's safe to say it would be a gun only stand. And I'm not sure I want to spend another 100$ just for that. -
How many deer does your family consume per year?
Fantail replied to First-light's topic in Deer Hunting
I like venison cooked various ways, but my kids seem to favor it ground up in sauces, a meatloaf or burger mix, or jerky. I'll tell ya since I got that thing no deer lasts as long as I'd want. That's ok though. An average? - We can go though 3 -4 a year easy. So the real question is how many can I get. -
source ALBANY, 08/04/11 – State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I – Oneonta) announced today that legislation allowing Cortland County sportsmen and women to use a rifle while hunting deer or bear has been signed into law. “This is common sense legislation that mirrors regulations already in effect in neighboring counties allowing the use of rifles while hunting big game,” said Senator Seward. “More importantly, Cortland County sportsmen and women, who collectively have an impeccable safety record, strongly support the change.” The legislation (S.1683-A/A.4357-A) amends section 11-0907 of the environmental conservation law to add Cortland County to the list of counties in which the taking of deer by rifle is authorized. Current law allows for rifle use in Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chemung, Chenango, Herkimer, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Oswego, Otsego, Schoharie, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga, Yates and a portion of Broome County. Very few adverse incidents or problems have been reported in the counties where big-game rifle hunting is currently permitted. In fact, neighboring Madison County reported no incidents or accidents involving rifles during the first season (2008) that their use was allowed. “With fewer hunters taking to the woods and the deer population on the rise, we have seen an increase in crop damage as well as a rise in dangerous and expensive car-deer accidents. Allowing the use of rifles for big-game hunting will help combat these growing problems while at the same time enhancing the local hunting experience. I wish all of our sportsmen a safe and productive hunting season this fall,” Seward concluded. The new law takes effect with the upcoming big-game hunting season which begins on the third Saturday in November, November 19, 2011.

If you spray, I would Not use Spectricide. I'm sure it's fine for around the house or whatever but it seems to include herbicides that aim for broadleaf's.

I like my Gorilla vest, very used to it. Gotta say though last year I went up for a week and forgot one of the straps for it, so I used the back-up. That was the included harness with the Gander ladder stand. It was a breese to use and didn't feel restricted at all.

A couple S600 shots and some others...

Cool - the horizon shot is sweet. -
Speaking of nylon, well not realy - but I was in BP the other weekend and I noticed a large hang on stand, good size platform, 90$. I thought hey I'd be comfortable in that thing. Then I noticed plastic fixtures. Plastic? - Are they nuts?
-
Last year I tried a 15' delux from Gander. It doesn't suck. I took two deer out of it. Including the 4pnt., in the rain under one of those tree umbrella's, with the Bow, sitting down. Wasn't planning on that I'm standing for Bow most of the time it's just when he showed up. Only thing I can add to that is I do prefer about 17'. I'm comfortable in ladder stands & climbers more then hang ons. Could be the height awareness thing, maybe or the size of the platform. Or, when your in stand and glancing around the eyes playing tricks with the mind as your aware of the lack of structure underneath and you know your life kind of hangs on a metal link and some nylon.

Over the last weekend in July I tested a Coleman Powerchill cooler. It's a thermoelectric cooler. If your not familiar with these units they use a peltier element with heat sinks and a small fan on each end. Koolatron & I think Igloo market different versions & wine coolers. They are not refrigerators, in fact they have no thermostat. They simply plug into a 12v plug or cig lighter socket. They can be usefull for road trips & a way to get away from using & waisting ice. Hence my interest, if you pop 5$ in ice every other weekend from spring to fall plus whats needed for hunting trips it adds up. They are also much cheaper than true 12v-dc/120v-av portables such as an Engel or Edgestar. If you have solar or generate power at camp it starts to make more sence. The findings; Fairly well insullated, lost 7-8 degrees unplugged from 11pm to 6 am over an 80 degree weekend. Outter fan is 92mm, and so it might sound like a computer running in the background. Unit can chill down to avg. 38 degrees below the surrounding ambient temp. With the unit down to about 37 degrees, if used-opened for a few moments the inside temp may go up to 42-43 degrees. But will recover in under an hour. It is not solar friendly, meaning it's a bit of a power hog. It's rated for a 4 amp draw, I found it seems to draw a steady 3.65 amps. However, if you have a 200 aH or parallel banked* reserve 200 aH or more you can safely use such a unit over a weekend for about 2/3rds of the day. How do I know this? - I have a pair of 105 aH marine batteries in parallel feeding the camper. I should also mention I'm able to generate about 5 amps of charge for about 5-6 hours a day. But, I was also running lights, using the radio/cd player, & charged some aa's. And at no time did the systems LVD* kick in. On the other hand neither did Overcharge* like it normally would. I also used an Acu-Rite Thermometer* (Lowes) to monitor the cooler inside temp and camper temp. 40 qt. Powerchill units are about 100$ and up. I found this one in great shape & clean on craigslist 50$ Bottom line: neat unit but not going to cut it for replaceing a fridge at camp. Again ok for weekend use if you have the reserve, or travel use but remember unplug it if the vehicle will be off a while. A 4 amp draw will drain a car battery down in a few hours. Was looking for an inexpensive way to keep things cold, as do many people. I guess it's back to ice once I'm there for a few days in a row at least for this season. *parallel - 12v deep cycles will give you more current or amps per hour not changing the voltage. *LVD/Overcharge - solar charge regulators have a Low Voltage Disconnect that prevents your battery or bank from low voltage damage. Typicaly 10.4 to 11.4 range. The idea being to prevent battery abuse or damage below 10 volts, yes even on a deep cycle. Simply know your avg amp draw & compare that with your aH reserve and what you can generate. *Acu-Rite Thermometer - Simple digital unit with a probe for in/out readings. No alarm or clock. Inexpensive, only way to turn it off though is remove the aaa battery.
