Was shooting a 475 gr arrow w my Mathews Drenalin 60#. Now shooting 403 gr with Mathews Halon 60#. Hunting and target shooting.

When I spoke As my original post states above... the whole reason I'm shooting in the league is to be able to when I may need to, is to be able to pull back, get on target and release for hunting purposes. I prefer to wait til the shot is there or to position my shot ahead of a slow walking deer and pull back and get set and move my pin onto the animal and release.

Just curious here. What is a good time from the point that you begin to pull the bow back, then get on your target and release til arrow hits at say 20 yds. As some of you know I’ve been shooting in a league for about 7 weeks now. My goal has never been to win or be the best in the league. My goal was to develop a perfect mental and physical routine to efficiently get on target and release for hunting purposes. Thoughts?

Doc - I tend to agree with you. Example: I lived for about 10 years on a 35 acre private lake with about 25 homes on it. It was controlled by a Housing Assoc. and the lake had a No Motors Allowed Rule. A guy I know had a lot on the lake but no house on the lot. He would come fish the lake often for bass. He would use a small john boat. He went to the Assoc to ask permission to use an electric motor. The Assoc voted no and the reasoning was simple - todays electric motors may only be a few HP but who knows what the future may bring. There may be electric motors installed into the hull of the boat or larger ones for the transom that may be able to propel a boat over the waters at speeds fast enough to a skier... who knows. So like bow season, where does it end.

I find that I think about deer hunting year round. Especially when the woods is open and the foliage is off the trees and you can see deep in the woods and across the fields. Maybe in the summer I might not think as much but I'm still in the thinkin' about deer huntin' mode now.

not that special really. Paper targets at 3 distances that we shoot a total 60 arrows. Total perfect score of 300

So I went to my first week shoot the 18th. Didn't do well. You see I have a single pin set for 25 yds. The 3 distances we shoot at inside are 10, 15 and 20 yds. So as you can figure I was high at all 3 distances. I haven't shot since last Oct/Nov as well. So for the entire night I had to shoot low and estimate. We were shooting at animal targets and I had 5 zeros and finished at 213 out of 300. Saturday I went over to adjust my sight for the 20 yd pin and nailed it the first adjustment. I have a future makeup shoot coming up in a few weeks and 3 others were shooting a makeup so we all shot Saturday. Everyone had a single pin adjustable but myself. Anyway I shot 246.

Grow - do you think the .010 will be or is bright enough? I've thought about the .010 as well.

Here are the 2 I'm considering. The HHA is more money but that's not a reason not to buy it. It looks better to me. Anybody using either and your thoughts. I think land access will have the biggest affect on the future of hunting. I know for myself I have for the most part been fortunate to have access to land a good share of my life. The past 20 years has been the best. The past 4 season I have been fortunate to have my own land to hunt. The previous 16 seasons I had access to and for much of those years access to about 200 acres. Although I had my share of headaches including have stands stolen and other hunters who I don't share the same way of hunting it was a nice piece to have access to and it was across the road from my house so even better and convenient. I truly think more and more hunters are trying to buy their own land or via a lease tie up some land for their own sole use. More land owners won't let hunters hunt or they will lease the land to the higher bidder. This combined with young people not caring about hunting and the anti gun sentiment I think the future of hunting is not good.

Anybody here shoot in a bow league? I just signed up at Straight Arrow Archery in Sauquoit, NY. I shot in this league almost 10 years ago. They have 13 weeks and a awards dinner after. It's kinda like a bowling league . I start Jan 18th.

Didn't say it's ok either way but it's obviously easier one way than the other. Let's be honest here if you have a rifle it doesn't matter if it's a farm field, food plot Or stump syrup it's easy. Now with a bow it's much different. As stated by others a 3/4 acre food plot will still be much more difficult to make the kill than syrup dumped over a stump 15 yds from your stand. The law is what it is some will obey the law to the T and others won't.

OK so lets at least look at it this way. 1) Go into a store and buy a bag of deer cain or acorn syrup attractant and ride the 4 wheeler into the woods pour over a stump 20 yds from your stand on the last day of September. - done. 2) Go into a store and buy some lime and seed. Get on your $15,000 tractor, fill with $15 worth of fuel and drag, harrow or till for hours. Pick out rocks and then walk the tilled area and spread the $200 worth of seed over the 1/2 to 3/4 acre. Drag the area to cover the seed and wait for months for the seed to take and grow the crop that you have planted.

Totally understand and no disrespect. Unless you have a wife that is OK with less house it will be tough especially if you are a younger family. I had to wait til I was 60 to find the downsized house on the chunk of land. I looked for about 6 years after getting sick and tired of thinking I had land to myself only to find there is always somebody else with permission too. Good luck Rob-C and I'm a Rob too.

"they aren't making any more land" - you've heard that statement before. If you want hunting land for the future ya better get looking.

Although not perfect and after reading your post and others responses, here's mine. As stated you lose out to the family side if you push things. If you really want to hunt the 30 acres, then have a sit down with him. He appears to be a beginner hunter. Tell him what you are trying to accomplish on the 30. Tell him that you are looking to try and grow some bigger bucks and that by passing on the little bucks they get a chance to grow. Take him under your wing and share the property. Teach him how to be a hunter and perhaps you'll actually enjoy it. In a pissing match you will lose. I know this isn't what you prolly want to hear but at least you will know where he going to be rather than have him mess up your hunts.
