  1. Another vote for the Summit viper. I have a steel one and an aluminum one. My steel one is destined to be left on a new property I can hunt now, and my aluminum one is my mobile one! I am 5’-8”, and 185 pounds. Both hold me just fine. Wear a harness and have a good tree belt like a Q-Safe! as mentioned they can use some upgrades. The backpack straps suck, if you plan on being mobile with it frequently, invest in a set of Molle II shoulder straps. Waist belt is a bonus. Third Hand Archery products have some support straps and a bow holder that are IMO essential for a comfortable set up with a summit viper.
  2. I carried mine once or twice. I have a Mean Arms Mag lock on mine, once you tighten it down the screw shears off and unless you do some drilling, it won’t come out. Using a 10 round Pmag, you can add a 5 round limiter by removing the floor plate and adding the limiter. Then remove it for after season.
  3. I don’t hate that plan. I wonder what the wanton waste part would be. No gut piles on public land? Private land?
  4. Nothing this morning, but I had my hunting buddy out at dark. He’s sitting the evening hunt out though.
  5. I have a small gear pouch(repurposed Fanny pack)attached to the upper section on the right hand side. Two zipper pouches, the small one holds the hoist rope I use to pull up my implement. The larger pocket I pack my knife, calls and basics. No additional back pack or waist pack. I try to pack light to keep the weight down. If I need to hoof it back to the truck after a shot, I will.
  6. The seat on my summit can adjust up and down independent of the upper frame. I pack mine kind of high as well, and yes I insert the cables all the way on both sides.
  7. Go practice out in the yard a few times. Don’t fumble around in the dark for the first time. Get your hoist ropes set, make sure all the little things are set up how you like it before you carry it in. Make sure it’s comfortable to “backpack”. Do you have a tree strap and safety harness? The strap will need to be shimmied up the tree as you go up. Q-Safe is the best for that IMO. Do you have a small gear bag attached for small stuff? Is the seat set the way you want to sit for hours?
  8. Yeah I popped off a primer once early morning before I left the house, sounded like a .22...LOL didn’t do that again. Wonder how many neighbors I woke up?
  9. I bought one of those Summit Heated seat cushions at a store closing sale and that thing is awesome! https://www.amazon.com/Summit-SU85272-Heated-Seat/dp/B075CRQZF1 I have seen it for around $60, amazon link for reference.
  10. Awesome gun for the money. Killed my best buck with it. 2 pellets of White Hot powder, Hornady XTP bullets, sabotted .44 cal, with 777 primers. Topped off with a Nikon 3x9. Honestly of all my guns, this one fits me the best.
  11. I had a doe and a button buck come through at 7:00. So far nothing else.
  12. Pretty sure it’s squirrel rut in these woods today. Holy hell the reds are all over the place.
  13. I hunted this morning, and didn’t see any deer, but I think it was red squirrel rut where I was! Little b@stards!
  14. Don't be lazy at that point. Sorry to be blunt. Use an old roll up sled, or a plastic molded sled you find just about anywhere to help drag it out, you'd be surprised how much easier it makes the drag out. Or buy a cart from the big box store. Build a cart if you have the parts. Ive dragged alot of deer in my life, some easy and some that took hours. Its part of the gig one way or another.
  15. Shipping would likely be expensive...I didn’t realize you were down state until i looked at the DEC map.
  16. I have an older steel Summit Viper. I’m in the Syracuse area.
  17. Hey everyone, I'm in the market for a rain jacket/pants combo. I would prefer the type that I can put on over my normal hunting clothes. I currently have a scentlok jacket that though keeps you dry underneath....the outside soaks up the rain like a sponge vs. wicking it away, making it heavy. I was looking at the Frogg Toggs set that all the major big stores carry. Any other suggestions out there?
  18. Does the "friend" have to be a user of the app? Or will it send a notification to someones spouse?
  19. Its likely not as good as a beacon product, but most phones offer a GPS locator. Iphones have the find my iphone feature...only works if the service is good and the battery is charged up.
  20. This evening I went out with my 7 year old for some early muzzleloader action up in 6K. We got to our spot in a hedge row looking into a small hay lot, and there was already a deer feeding. We watched it for about 10 minutes and I asked my son if he wanted to wait for more deer, or shoot this one(we thought it was a doe). He said to shoot this one and was very excited about it. I lined up the shot and told my son to cover his ears. I shot abs after the smoke cleared the deer made its way to the wood line. My son was anxiously wanting to get over there to “get the deer”. We waited about 10 more minutes then walked over. My son found the deer laying just inside the wood line, turns out it was a button buck. I would have normally passed a button, but my son is super excited about this experience, and that’s what counts! Enjoy!
  21. Ideally yes....but today for example, I'm taking my 7 year old out for a Northern muzzleloader sit the last hour and a half. Likey, I wont shower before this, I will however spray the crap out of us with scent killer before we walk in.
  22. Thanks for the responses. I ended up spending a good amount of time shooting and adjusting the scope to bring it all back in. I also spent some time swapping heads on different bolts to find the ones that "pair" up. I was able to get it basically dialed back in so that the field tips and BH were hitting in the same spot...I did all of this at 30 yards. On my Block target at 30 yards, I can keep all the bolts inside the 4" circle. I have not yet been able to get out and shoot the xbow for a follow up session to double make sure...perhaps one night this week or the weekend.

  24. It’s a Centerpoint Sniper 370. The only change is a second batch of piledrivers. I can’t imagine the original batch and née batch are so far out of spec that they would be as all over as I’m seeing.
